ISSUE #286 BI-WEEKLY NEWSLETTER HOBART POLICE DEPARTMENT 705 E. 4TH ST. HOBART, IN 46342 FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2018 PUBLIC RELATIONS ~ YOUR PARTNERS IN PUBLIC SAFETY GREETINGS FROM THE CHIEF S OFFICE LIFESAVING MERIT AWARD Corporal Mark Grissom I would like to thank the Board of Public Works and Safety for taking a few moments to recognize one of our officers for a life saving effort. In August of 2018, Corporal Mark Grissom overheard the radio call alerting officers of a 2 year old in full arrest. Mark responded to the home of Linda McMahan before anyone else could arrive. McMahan s son Elijah, who has autism and a sensory disorder, had a seizure and then his heart stopped. McMahan began CPR before Corporal Mark Grissom arrived and while on the phone with 9-1-1. When she saw the emergency lights, McMahan ran with the child to the aid of the first responder, Mark Grissom. Mark applied a couple sternum rubs and set the child on the deck lid of his car and continued CPR. Within a short time of compressions, Mark noted that the boy came to life and sat up grabbing his arm and not letting go. Mark gave Linda most of the credit for knowing CPR herself and being there for her child when he needed aid. And while you will naturally resort to your training in an emergency situation, it is always reassuring when a second set of hands arrives to help out and assure you that everything will be alright. For his life saving efforts of 2 year old Elijah, we award Mark the Lifesaving Merit Pin, and this letter of commendation for his efforts. Mark was there for young Elijah, mom Linda, and his community that day. He arrived in less than 2 minutes to render help. I behalf of a grateful Board, Police Department, and Community thank you again for your efforts.
