Gala Concert Saturday 9 November starting 6.30 PM Gala Rehearsal Schedule All musicians required to attend their allotted rehearsal time at The Arts Centre, which include: Little Big Band: 9.00-9.30am Big Band: 9.30-10.00am String Orchestra: 10.00-10.30am Junior Symphony: 10.30-11.00am Youth Symphony: 11.00-12 noon Only musicians and designated GCYO Supervisors are permitted backstage. Please advise if your child requires special assistance. What do musicians wear? For Rehearsal: Smart casual dress with closed-in shoes. For Concert: Full concert dress for evening Performance and at all times in audience. DVD GCYO has employed the services of a Professional Videographer to record our entire end-of-year Gala Concert. DVDs can be ordered and purchased for $32 ~ just covering cost. Full details available mid-october; please standby. Lyre Notes - October 2013 Page 2 of 8 Gala Details for Musicians Where do I go when I arrive? Musicians, please enter side-stage door at the North-end of The Arts Centre Gold Coast for Rehearsal and Performance. GCYO supervision 8.30am -12noon and 5.30pm-10.30pm. When do I arrive? For Rehearsal: 30-minutes before your rehearsal time to prepare (see side column for times). For Concert: Please arrive no later than 6:00 pm for the Concert (side-stage door open 5.30 pm). YS and JS Musicians - please sit in musician-only seats in audience until intermission. All other musicians required back-stage - thanks. Can I watch the Concert? Yes please! Musician-only complimentary seats have been allocated for your enjoyment. You will be escorted to these audience seats after your performance with GCYO supervision at all times. Or, musicians may also sit in a paidseat with family; please let us know if you will be doing this. When can I leave? After Rehearsal: as soon as your rehearsal finishes musicians can leave. Parents and care-givers can collect musicians at side-stage door. GCYO supervision 8.30am -12noon. Any concerns or questions, please call Patricia 0423 148 992 Please note: Rehearsal finish times may unavoidably vary; such is the nature of a rehearsal including lighting and sound-check. GCYO plans to run on-time, however, unpredictable delays beyond our control have been experienced in previous years. In the event of such a delay, we appreciate your patience and understanding. After Concert: All musicians and their families are invited/requested to stay until the Concert concludes approx 9.15 PM. Everyone loves an audience! Can parents or caregivers watch rehearsal? No one is permitted in audience seating until the performance that evening the wait will be worth it! Exit Procedures for Musicians after Concert To expedite the exit process for musicians and their families the following procedures will occur after the Concert. Please discuss with your musician to ensure they understand this new process. Once musicians have collected their instrument and other belongings: Editor ~ Patricia Geale SO/JS/LBB will be escorted by GCYO Supervisors to the front foyer for collection by parents. Musicians will not be able to exit until collected by a parent or designated care-giver. With approx 120 darling young musicians, this process will take some time. BB/YS musicians will exit the side-stage door. Given the maturity of these musicians, the BB/YS exit procedure will not be supervised unless prior arrangement is made with GCYO via email at enquiry@gcyo.com.au.

Follow these steps in making Application: Review groups available at http://goldcoastyouthorchestra.com.au/our- groups/ Auditions 2014 Entry Membership and placement into an ensemble within the Gold Coast Youth Orchestra is done through an independent audition process. All young musicians aged from 8 to 25 years are invited to apply. Every position, in every group is auditioned each year; so new applicants are not disadvantaged - equal opportunity for all! Please spread the word about our auditions! Apply now! Once all Audition Application Forms have been received, these steps follow: Audition bookings will be scheduled (auditions approximate 5-minutes) Audition day and time will be advised via email no later than 7-days prior to your audition Music excerpts required for your Audition will be uploaded 7-days prior to your audition Audition Applicants are required to prepare and perform the given music excerpt at the audition; as well as a piece of your own choice. GCYO has recently received the Good News that we have been successful with a Grant Application that will assist GCYO move towards renewable energy. So, in 2014 we will be reducing GCYO s carbon footprint... yippee for all! New flooring! In line with our ongoing efforts to enhance the GCYO Centre (98% of improvements funded by grants), we will be replacing the linoleum flooring in the coming months. What's next... The GCYO is continually seeking support for items that will add value to our organisation.
