Children of (---) Waite were as follows: + 2 i William 2 Waite. 3 ii [Martin] 2 Waite, born He married in 1760/69 Anne Ingrahm, born 1 10 Jun Martin was in South Hadley 1790 as was his apparent brother William (JAW) Generation 2 2. William 2 Waite (---) 1, born 2, 3, probably in Hampshire Co., MA; died 5, 6, in Cockburn's Gore, Delaware, NY. He married (1) 8 Mary (---), died 9, 10, Aug 1765 in South Hadley, Hampshire, MA; (2) 12 in 1765/70 Sarah Ingrahm, born Sep 1745; died 14, Aug 1837 in Charlotte Center, Chautauqua, NY; buried 16, 17 in Evergreen Cemetery, lot 204, Sinclairville, Chautauqua, NY. Came to South Hadley circa and residing there JAW states that he has not yet found proof that William is the father of his Adin Wait. However, the fact that A History of Delaware County states that Adin and William were early settlers at "Cockburns Gore" and that William Wait was the first death there seem conclusive to him. Also William's second wife Sarah is buried in Adin's lot in Sinclairville Cemetery. Additionally, he found that William and his first wife Mary had a son Adin d at S. Hadley. It does seem likely that they would name a younger son Adin as well. Members of the First Church of South Hadley. (JAW) Children of William Waite and Mary (---) were as follows: 4 i Adin 3 Waite, born 18, 19 9 Jun 1760 in South Hadley, Hampshire, MA; died 20 5 Jul 1772 probably in South Hadley, Hampshire, MA. 1 JAW - Records of James A. The Case for William and Adin Being Brothers The 1790 US Census for South Hadley lists two Wait families: William and Martin, both with males under 16 years, so Adin could belong to either family. Adin and William Sr. moved to Delaware Co., NY. A History of Delaware County states that Adin and William were early settlers at "Cockburn's Gore" and that William Wait was the first death in Franklin Co Federal Census (Wait, Adin 16; Wait, William 15)

6 The Hampshire County Waite Family page 6 The 1800 US Census index for Delaware CO, NY, lists Adin and one female, both aged There is also a William with female, both 26-45, with 2 females under 10 years. Since this William would be b , this is William, Jr. b Adin's obit places him in Granby MA (Granby had broken off from South Hadley) Wait, Adin died last week in Charlotte; native of Granby, Mass aged about 70 years. He was among early settlers of county, emigrated abt. 30 yr. ago... first located in Fredonia & built blacksmith shop on or near the spot now occupied by Col. (The Fredonia Censor 26 Dec 1848) William Wait's (William Jr. and Adin's father) second wife, Sarah, is buried in Adin's lot in Sinclairville Cemetery. In a letter written in 1841 by Stephen Tinkham, from the William D. Wait lineage, refers to "Uncle Adin and Emmy." Stephen Tinkham married Roxanna Wait, daughter of William Wait Jr. Adin had a daughter, Emma Waite, Female, b. 24 June 1810, Masonville, Delaware, NY married Samuel Flagg Forbush, Male. This letter clearly shows the relationship between William D. Wait and Adin Wait as brothers. The State road from Cherry Valley to Jericho (now Bainbridge and Afton) was opened in 1797, when settlers come and located along the road. The Smiths and several of the others were from Massachusetts. (HDCNY) Enos Goodman settled on the gore, on the farm now owned and occupied by William Bixby, Esq., whose father, William, came from Vermont (one of the Vermont sufferers) and first settled on the Stebbins place, two miles east of Masonville post office, and in 1832 bought and moved on to the gore, as also did Peres Moody and son Moses, and Adin Wait, in (HDCNY) Children of Adin Waite and Tabitha Osborn were as follows: + 29 i Abigail 4 Waite. 30 ii Amanda 4 Waite, born 75, 76 2 Apr 1802 in Masonville, Delaware, NY; died Mar 1883 in Charlotte Center, Chautauqua, NY.
