The Prince of Wales Leinster Regiment served in Halifax from 1897 to Wear and soiling to front and back, light cracking, bottom right corner nicked off, condition poor. $40.00 The Prince of Wales's Leinster Regiment (Royal Canadians) was an infantry regiment of the line in the British Army, formed in 1881 by the amalgamation of the 100th (Prince of Wales's Royal Canadian) Regiment of Foot and the 109th Regiment of Foot (Bombay Infantry). The 1st Battalion, which had been in India moved to Ireland in A detachment took part in the Fourth Anglo-Ashanti War in 1895, but the rest of the battalion remained in Ireland until moving to Halifax, Canada, in The 2nd Battalion moved to Ireland in 1882 and to England in It transferred to Malta in 1894 and joined the Bermuda Garrison the following year. Dec 12th, 1887 and is 10 pages. $95.00 According to Pictonians At Home and Abroad by Rev. J.P MacPhie, William Meikle was born in New Glasgow in 1856 & died in Tuxford Sk. In the biographical sketch, Rev. McTavish talks about Meikle's early days being brought up by his Mother. As a young man he went to work for time in Halifax with Howard & Sons and then back to New Glasgow. He became part of the religious revival which swept across Eastern Nova Scotia. Photo x 13.5 inches (26.7 x 34.2 cm) frame x inches (45 x 52.7 cm). Photograph shows the Bluenose (Sail No. 2) leading the Elsie(?) (Sail No. 6), with other schooners and Halifax in the background. Photograph has 2 small brown spots in the sky above the schooner and is in very good condition. Mat is stained foxed, frame in poor condition. Title and Commercial Photo Service in pencil bottom margin of mat and blind stamp of the Commercial Photo Service bottom left corner of the print. $ In 1920, MacAskill became a photographer for the Commercial Photo Service and by 1925 was the proprietor of this establishment. It was probably during this period that he met Elva Abriel, also a commercial photographer, who may have done some work for the Commercial Photo Service (C.P.S.). They were married in Enfield in Later MacAskill ( ) became a world-renowned Nova Scotia photographer who illustrated the romance of the sea as no one has done before or after. His photographs have won hundreds of national and international awards and may be found on walls throughout the world. After a season fishing on the Grand Banks of Newfoundland under the command of Angus Walters, the Bluenose set out to take part in her first International Fisherman's Trophy. The International Fisherman's Trophy was awarded to the fastest fishing schooner that worked in the North Atlantic deep-sea fishing industry. The fastest schooner had to win two out of three races in order to claim the trophy. The Canadian elimination race to determine who would represent Canada in the 1921 International Fishermen's Trophy race off Halifax, Nova Scotia took place in early October. A best two-out-of-three competition, Bluenose won the first two races easily. Bluenose then defeated the American challenger Elsie, for the International Fishermen's Trophy, returning it to Nova Scotia in Oct Wallace R. MacAskill (photographer). Cape North, N. S. Their life was sadly changed when their Mother died in the late twenties of tuberculosis. The four daughters, aged 4-10, went back to live with their Aunt Martha and Uncle Jim in Sunny Brae, Pictou County. They travelled by train getting out at Eureka Junction. They were reunited with extended family, friends and neighbours. They had many fond memories at Sunny Brae School, farming, going to church, social functions, weather, Christmas concerts, and growing up through the seasons in rural Nova Scotia. 45. TPL $ Edward Whelan was born in 1824 in Ballina, County Mayo, in Ireland. At 7 years old, his family moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia in Growing up in Halifax, he was greatly influenced by Joseph Howe, where he worked as a printing apprentice, and a Father Richard Baptist O Brien, a dynamic Irish priest who was a gifted orator as well as Whelan s teacher at St. Mary s School in Halifax. These two influences led Whelan to abandon his studies at the age of 18 to take up a position as editor of The Register, an Irish-Catholic, Liberal newspaper. In 1864,the union of the British North American colonies was the topic of the day. Though the Liberals were against confederation, Whelan supported confederation as he saw it as an opportunity for PEI to gain more control of its own affairs. Whelan was chosen to be one of the delegates to the Quebec Conference. Attending this conference made Whelan an even stronger proponent.
