Whan it rainad wa would dip watar out of our dugout to kaap tha rain from running us out. Tha snakes, spiders, and flaas Just ran us naarly crazy; wa would go to bad and spray powdar orer tha ahaat over ua and kill tha flaas than gat up and ahaka tha shaat gatting all tha flaaa off than wa could alaap; wa have killad as aany as thraa snakaa at ona tine in that dugout. In 1905 they surveyed Putnam proper, built a little two roomed schoolhause had a bank, several stores and Putnea * as quite a little town and later they built on to the sohoolhouse and kept improving the school building and last year the W.P.A. put up a most beautiful building. I was h&re during the trouble between the herd law and the free grass people, in one battle they fought all night and several were injured* There were not very many outlaws here when we came to this country and we never had any dealings with any of them. I have a letter which is a hundred and three years old and a.patent to a piece of land with Hart in Van Buren's signature on it.
