3 Recently I have been looking at many of the "free" animal books. While I still wish the captioned photographs were larger, I believe the detail of the snake trivia more than makes up for the medium size of the photos.this book has a clickable table of contents, which makes finding the pages easy. The descriptions of the various topics is fairly in depth for this type of book. (Just enough to explain the topic, without so much detail as to bore a young child.) I learned that molting was not because the skin was too small and why some snakes form snake balls.the crisp clear color photographs show a large variety of snakes and are captioned.the usual ending of encouraging protecting the topic of the book is here, but also gives a good reason for protecting, which is normally not included (at least in the books I have seen). I didn't realize how important snakes could be for farmers.i HIGHLY recommend this book on Snakes.. I got this as a free book for my nephew and his review was "cool". He loves the pictures and the facts about snakes. In fact it is getting to the point where it is driving me nuts but hey if it keeps him reading that is a good thing. I bought this to read with my three children, 8, 6 and 6 (yes twins). We all really enjoyed the education and good pictures in the book. We ended out and bought some of the others of this series also. Put snakes in a good light and there are great pictures that aren't sensationalized or scary but show the anatomy very well. Ms DeSliva even attempts to distinguish venomous from poisoned but still uses them interchangeably but overall a great book to start young reader on A book that clearly and simply puts many facts about snakes in a very readable book. The photos are excellent and the layout is clear and easy to follow. This book covers a lot of the snakes, and it's a great read for kids who want to learn more about snakes. The images in the book are really well done and clear, and the "fun facts" are very interesting.i recommend this one! My son has this in hardback but wanted it on his Kindle! Loves it and it is very informative! He has been able to do his book reports off of this. Age appropriate for 3rd grade level reader just because of the words but a second grader could work his way through as well. :)

4 This little book about snakes contains some very nice photos coupled with short and, in many cases, poorly written text. I hope parents are reading this to their children correctly and not verbatim. Perhaps the author should employ an editor before she attempts to "teach" children about snakes with good pictures and bad english/grammar. Need an example? This is from the Description and contains an error in each of the two sentences in this paragraph: "There are also picture captions, which provides more information to talk about with your child. Alternatively, a child of any age (even the child in you) can just look at the images and appreciate its beauty". Okay, "captions" don't "provides", they PROVIDE and since "images" are the object, you appreciate THEIR beauty, not "its". Sorry, but editing is an important part of producing a finished product, especially when children are the intended audience.
