1 Semester: 1 ECTS credits: 5 Introduction to Writing Skills () ALDE1003 This course is designed as an introduction to academic writing (and reading) in. It gives an overview of grammatical structures and speech patterns used in academic writing and focuses on the reading comprehension of academic texts, because understanding the content and structure of academic writing is considered to be a prerequisite in order to produce texts on that level. The aim of the course Grammar 1 is to give an overview of basic terms und themes of grammar. 14 Semester: 3 ECTS credits: 4 Drama in Literature I ALDE2078 This course is designed as an introduction to the most important drama genres like Bürgerliches Trauerspiel and Episches Theater. The students will get the theoretical knowledge to interpret theatre plays in a properly way. The students read 2-3 different dramas from literature (for instance: Schiller: Kabale und Liebe; Franz Wedekind: Frühlings Erwachen; Brecht: Der gute Mensch von Sezuan) and use their theoretical knowledge to analyze and interpret these plays. This course is aimed at students with a high level of competence in. The course includes basic terms of grammar with specific regard to structures used in the language of science and study. The students should be able to analyze sentences to clear up ambiguities and also to prevent misunderstandings, which will help them to understand and translate difficult texts better in theır future translation practices. 27 Semester: 5 ECTS credits: 4 Text linguistics ALDE3025 This course is based upon the question "What is a text?", and consists of two parts. In the first part the different text definitions in everyday contexts and in text linguistics are discussed and specific terms and relations in text linguistics are introduced. The second part of this course draws the students' attention to functions of language in texts and dialogues. The structure of texts is especially focused on the interpretation and decoding of texts, including the creative use of texts, viz. translation. What is a text? In this seminar, the theory of comparative literature studies, which has been developing since 19. Century is introduced through different texts. 44 Semester: 7 ECTS credits: 8 Linguistic Studies I ALDE4042 This course aims to present text linguistic analysis models and to use these models to analyze the text type "advertisement" and to describe the specific characteristics of this type of text in different languages and cultures. The text linguistic criteria in the analysis model by Klaus Brinker (1998) "thematic development", "text function" "text style" are explained. This analysis model is extended with the text linguistic criteria by Hartmut Stöckl (2004). The specific features of the text type "advertisement" are described with analysis of, English and Turkish texts. The results of the text analysis are evaluated and compared. In this way, intercultural comparisons are performed. The primary question of this third course would be in this connection how to translate the origins in terms of Freudian psychoanalysis and philosophy. 52 Semester: 8 ECTS credits: 8 Contents: Linguistic Studies II ALDE4047 The aim of this seminar is to analyze different types of texts from and Turkish with text linguistic methods and to compare them with each other. The specific characteristics of different types of texts from and Turkish are analyzed according to the text linguistic analysis model of Fandrych / Thurmair (2010) and compared with each other. In the theoretical part, the criteria for text analysis are explained. In the practical part, the informative texts such as presentation texts, application form, motivation letter, news, discussion forums on the Internet, reviews and the expressive texts such as blogs, s, chats, congratulatory texts, tales are analyzed with the illustrated text linguistic criteria. In this lecture the literature process called intercultural literature or Turkish- literature is handled which started in the last quarter of 20th century. Recognizing the basic characteristics of the intercultural literature, different works of the same literature will be discussed. 55 Semester: 8 ECTS credits: 2 Literary Translation IV ALDE4049 Turkish Literary Translation 4 can be defined as a general problematic of the Self and the Other in terms of cultural translation. The roles of what are called the Self and the Other are, in effect, formulations of the way in which the Self relates to the Other. Following this terms, Literary Translation IV aims to explore how we operate in any kind of cultural translation by seeing the Self in the Other and vice versa.
