Narrator: What would it be like to live under the sea I wonder if you would need a key To open the door from the ocean floor so we can explore and take a tour I think we ll find a whole lot more Then we were ever asking for. Will you come along with me On a journey under the sea Hello everybody, I m your tour guide Miss Snorkle Assistant And I m the assistant tour guide Miss Flipper Today we are going to explore the Ocean Assistant Did you know the earth is more than two-thirds water and has millions of animals living under the sea. Today we are going to see Sharks, Whales, Starfish, Crabs and a whole lot more. Assistant Put on your swimsuits and grab your goggles. We are going exploring on the ocean floor

Tourist 1: Man oh Man oh Man oh Man, We re going To the ocean! I m going to see Sharks And whales! I m going to see Pirate sails! I m going to see Fish that glow! Man oh Man oh Man, Let s go! -David L. Harrison Tour guide: Now we might see sharks and whales, but we definitely won t be running into any pirates. Narrator: At the crossroads of the deep, A place to sleep. A place to hide. A place to keep your eyes wide open. Yes, we re open! Come inside. -by Kurt Cyrus Make sure to keep your eyes open and your hands at your side Assistant Sometimes the different animals like to take a taste.

Is everybody ready? Assistant Take a deep breath Down we go Look everybody our first animal sighting! Hollywood: Hello everybody, my name is Hollywood and I am a star fish. They call me that because I have five arms and I am shaped like a star. My dream is to one day be in the movies and be more famous then Nemo. Starfish The Starfish by Douglas Florian Although it seems That I m all arms, Some other organs Give me charm. I have a mouth With which to feed. A tiny stomach Is all I need. An though it s true I have no brain, I m still a star- I can t complain Narrator: Starfish are incredible animals. Although they are called starfish they are not exactly a fish!

Starfish by Just Dee Star shaped, in the sea What could I be little feet, five not three This is me I am the little star fish I am your little friend I am the little sunshine I'll be there 'till the end Finding Stars by Avis Harley Slice an apple and There I lie; Applaud me while I shine on stage; Rank me highest of the High; Watch for me when day is gone; and In your deepest Secret self, Have me there to wish upon Starfish by Rob Jackson I envy the echinoderm Or starfish, by a simpler term. It looks for dinner all about And finding food, it doesn t shout It turns its stomach inside out. No napkin needed for its mout. Hollywood: Not to shake my own foot, but starfish are wonderful creatures. I hope you enjoyed hearing all about them. Tour guide: Thank you Hollywood, it sure was great to meet you

Hollywood: It was great to meet you guys too! Look out for my friend Pinch. Hopefully you find him in a happy mood. He is usually awfully crabby. Assistant Bye Hollywood. Is everyone having fun? Assistant Ouch! What was that? Pinch: That was me! I was just saying hello to all the visitors. You must be Pinch, Hollywood told us we would be seeing you soon Pinch: Oh Hollywood, she might be a star but she ll never be a king like me. A King Crab that is. Assistant King Crabs are found in many places throughout the world. Narrator: Crabs are crustaceans. They can be found in the ocean, streams and rivers. They are known to eat plants and animals. CRABS Young Prince Pinch by Avis Harley Young Prince Pinch was a jolly young prince and a jolly young prince was he. He sharpened his claws and he sharpened his jaws and he sharpened his pincers on me!

My Good Points by Avis Harley A toe-pinching scrimmage has damaged my image But I ask you not to forget how well I scuttle about in my stalwart shell Look at these hinges, these delicate claws, my eyes on their stilts-how they swivel and pause. And see how I star in the oceans of night: A Shining Crab Nebula-old as the light. Crabs by Kurt Cyrus It isn t a dance. It isn t romance. They re clenched in a grip-lock grab. With never a chance to retreat or advance. There s no letting go of a crab. Souvenir by David L. Harrison My tennis shoe s the perfect size to hold my little secret prize. I can t wait to see their eyes

when they meet my crab surprise. Assistant tour Guide: Ouch! My arm still hurts from getting pinched. Pinch: Sorry about that, that s how I say hello. I m still learning how to pinch gently If that s how he says hello, we should get out of here before he says goodbye! Narrator: In the distance the group spots a shark Assistant Miss Snorkle, uh do you see what I m seeing? I sure do Miss Flipper. Everyone be real quiet. Assistant Don t move, there s a shark looking right at us Narrator: The most dangerous animal in all of the sea is the great big shark SHARKS The Sharks by Douglas Florian Sharks can park Wherever they wish. They do not fear The other fish. Sharks can swim Wherever they please. On this each other Fish agrees

Shark! By David L. Harrison Shark! Shark! Shark In the bay! Nevermind, It flew away. Shark! By Avis Harley Surf-slicer Ghost-glider Shadow by-the-shore Flesh-finder Frenzied-feeder Coastal carnivore Myth-maker Wonder-maker Awesome-eye-agleam Noble-loner Ocean-owner Sea Czar, the supreme Big & Little by Rob Jackson The biggest fish in all the sea a house in length from head to tail This shark is often called a whale Confusing if you ask me. Whale sharks wouldn t hurt a fly Preferring neither girl nor guy They feast on tiny plankton, true But not on me or you

The smallest shark you ll ever see Is only inches head to toe It lives a thousand feet below The surface of the sea You can say its name with ease Only if you re Japanese Tsuranagakobitozame Is too small to bite or gnaw me Swim away and call its mommy. Shark by Helen H. Moore I went to the aquarium, And in a tank so dark, I saw a smooth and swimmy shape, And knew it was a shark. I went to the aquarium, And through a wall of glass, I saw that shark and thought Oh! What a lot of teeth he has! He swam around so quietly, He swam around so quick I'm awfully glad, That his tank had That wall of glass, so thick! The Shark by Lord Alfred Douglas A treacherous monster is the Shark He never makes the least remark. And when he sees you on the sand, He doesn't seem to want to land. He watches you take off your clothes, And not the least excitement shows.

His eyes do not grow bright or roll, He has astonishing self-control. He waits till you are quite undressed, And seems to take no interest. And when towards the sea you leap, He looks as if he were asleep. But when you once get in his range, His whole demeanor seems to change. He throws his body right about, And his true character comes out. It's no use crying or appealing, He seems to lose all decent feeling. After this warning you will wish To keep clear of this treacherous fish. His back is black, his stomach white, He has a very dangerous bite. Eugene: Hellooooooooooooooooo, I have a name. It is Eugene. I might not have ears, but I can hear what you re saying about me. You know not all sharks are mean. Hello, we are awfully sorry to offend you. My name is Miss Snorkle and I am showing these land lovers all that the ocean has to offer. Eugene: Oh boy, the ocean has a lot to offer. I would show you myself but whenever I show up everyone leaves. Assistant Gee, I wonder why that is?

Eugene: I wish I knew. Oh well, have a good tour. Watch out for Tiny the whale, when he is angry he blows his top! Thanks for the tip Assistant I think Tiny might be near. I hear a blow hole blowing! WHALES The Whale by Douglas Florian W I d e as a wall And just as TALL A wall with a tail. A Ship. A Sail. A Wharf. A W H A L E Fast Talk by Avis Harley When a baby beluga glides by And engages you eyeball to eye, What a whale-of-a-chance To converse in a glance And say, hi-hows-it-going-good-bye! The Whale by Theodore Roethke There was a most Monstrous Whale: He had no skin, he had no tail. When he tried to spout, that Great Big Lubber, The best he could do was Jiggle his Blubber.

Whale Sailing by Helen H. Moore Would you go for a sail On the back of a whale? Would you sail through the ocean, so blue? There's a lot you could see (If the whale would agree) It's more fun than a trip to the zoo! So please take the chance, if the chance you should get, To ride with a whale through the ocean. You'll get mighty wet, But it's worth it, you bet, Just be sure to rub on suntan lotion! An Invitation by Maria Fleming Let's take a trip, just you and me, Through the blue and sparkling sea. I'll give you a ride upon my tail. You'll see what it's like to be a whale. We'll leap and dive and chase the fish, Then swim and splash as long as we wish. And when we're done and playing in the icy deep, We'll let the waves rock us to sleep. I'm a humpback whale, I'm very strong I leap about and sing this song. I like to eat my fill in the Northern Sea. But in the winter it's South I flee. I am a beluga, I'm all white. From head to tail I'm quite a sight. You can hear me singing way up north, Playing and swimming back and forth.

I'm a mighty orca Black and white. In the sea I'm a beautiful sight. I'm not very big, but I am sleek I hunt for my food cause I have teeth. Tiny: How do you do? Who do you eat? Have you been chased? Glad we could meet. How do you taste? How do you do? Won t it be wonderful, swallowing you? -Kurt Cyrus Tourist 1: Umm, Ms. Snorkel? Ms. Flipper? Tiny wants to eat us!!! Tourist 2: And he asks too many questions! Hello, Tiny. This is a tour group coming to explore the ocean. Tiny: Well, how do you do? Do you know how hungry I am all the time? Is there ever enough food for me? Am I not the biggest whale you ve ever seen? Aren t my parents just silly for naming me Tiny? Assistant I m sure you have to eat a lot to stay full, Tiny. I think I saw a really, really, really, big school of fish a few minutes ago. They were swimming towards the coral reef. You should check them out. I don t know if it s just me, but that school of fish smelled like delicious sushi to me.

Tiny, our group wouldn t taste that great anyways. Goggles and flippers are known to give whales indigestion. Tiny: Where did you say that school of fish went? The Coral Reef? Well, wasn t it nice meeting you? Killer Whales by Jane Yolen Five and fifty in our pack, White below and topside black. Put your babe upon your back Or he is ours today. See us coming, tail and fin, We devour dolphin kin, Eat them up, both flesh and skin, And they are ours today. Knifing through the ocean s blue, Five and fifty after you, Nothing s left when we are through, And you are ours today. Narrator: There are many kinds of whales. Baleen Whales and Tooth Whales. You should always stay clear of Tooth Whales as they are carnivores. Can you see any teeth on that whale? Assistant tour guide: I don't think we should stick around to find out. Narrator: Whales average in length from 20ft all the way to 90ft! How big do you think Tiny was?

Assistant I don't know but from the sound of that blow hole he sounds BIG. Tourist 1: I think we should get out of here! Tourist 2: I agree Tourist 1: I would like to see an Octupus Tourist 2: Me too! Have any of you ever met an octopus? Assistant tour guide: If you did what would you do? Would you say hello? Assistant tour guide: Would you shake its hand? I just don't know what to do! OCTOPUS How to Shake Hands with an Octopus by Diane Smith "How do you do?" said Octopus. "How do you do?" I said. I stretched my right hand forward, then pulled it back instead. His arms are eight while mine are two.

Do I shake one or four? And what is left and what is right? What limbs do I ignore? His arms are in a circle, there is no left or right. I think at times its very hard to try to be polite. I'll take a chance, stick out my hand, and hope he takes the cue; and if he gives me all his arms I'll say how do you do do do do do do do Well I guess I know how to shake an octopus's hand Assistant But do you know how to wrestle one? do I'm Wrestling with an Octopus by Jack Prelutsky I'm wrestling with an octopus and faring less than well, one peek at my predicament should be enough to tell. It held me in a hammerlock, then swept me off my feet, I'm getting the impression that I simply can't compete. I'd hoped that I could hold my own, but after just a while,

I ascertained I couldn't match an octopus's style. It flipped me by a shoulder, and it latched onto a hip, essentially that octopus has got me in its grip. I tried assorted armlocks, but invariably missed, and now I'm in a headlock, and it's clinging to my wrist. It's wound around my ankles, and it's wrapped around my chest when grappling with an octopus, I come out second best. Narrator: Did you know Octopus are boneless creatures? Octopus The arms on the octopus number eight: One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight! All curled up, then pointing straight, One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight! In the ocean, octopuses wait, One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, For clams and crabs to put on their plate! One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight! The Octopus by Jake The cake I curse the Octopus skill for I am struggling I practice hard but he is still the best at juggling

Moon Sequins By Avis Harley Examine the suckers on tapered limbsmoon sequins pale as porcelain skins See how the flow of elbow and angle smoothly moves in a tasteful tangle. Think how this creature can gracefully scroll down through the tiniest, narrowest hole. And imagine the pageant with eight arms at play when they bow at the end of their octo-ballet. Octopus By Jane Yolen One arm for walking, Two arms for stalking, Three arms for gripping, Four against slipping, Five arms for speeding, Six arms for feeding, Seven for mating, And eight arms for getting away. Narrator: Octopuses tend to be small in warm tropical waters and larger in colder waters. This ocean is pretty large which means that Octopus' will be very large. Giant Octopus By Rob Jackson The octopus has suction cups Along each leg for food pickups He changes color at a whim Or when something chases him, (He spurts ink, too, I think.) One tentacle is used for mating With seven more participating A feat that must take concentrating. Two hundred pounds of octo-pucker I'd hate to run into that sucker.

Tourist 1: That was neat seeing a real live octopus Tourist 2: I sure wouldn't want to get wrapped up in their tentacles. SEAHORSE If you see a seahorse by Julie Murphy If you see a seahorse Be sure to say hello. Just smile and say a bright good day - They re most polite you know! Tourist 1: Look over there it's a girl seahorse! Tourist 2: How do you know its a girl? Tourist 1: Because it's pregnant! Assitant Do you want to know an interesting fact about seahorses? A Seahorse daddy has the baby, not the mommy. That is very interesting. Assistant So if you see a pregnant seahorse don't assume it's a girl. Seamus: Thanks for clearing that up. I get so mad when people assume I'm a girl because I'm pregnant. All seahorse males carry the baby.

Tourist 1: I'm very sorry Seamus: That's ok. I'm used to it. The name is Seamus the seahorse. Tourist 2: Pleased to meet you. We are on a trip exploring the ocean's animals. Seamus: Enjoy the tour Mixed up horses by Rob Jackson Sea horse has no mane, no legs They re just a bunch of phonies She-horse lays the eggs, it s true But he-horse births the ponies Father Seahorse By Jane Yolen His belly pouch, like a Snuggli of skin, enfolds the eggs til the young fish hatch, swimming away into the ever green fields of the sea. Riderless By Avis Harley In graceful gallop-riderlessone tiny, wingless Pegasus comes out to take a morning run, far way from moon and sun.

The Sea Horse By Douglas Florian You have No hooves. You have no hair. You don't eat oats. You don't breathe air. You hatch from eggs. You cannot race. (You have no legs With which to chase.) You're not a colt Nor mare Nor filly. You're called a horse. I call that silly. Seahorse by Blake Morrison O under the ocean waves I gallop the seaweed lanes, I jump the coral reef, And all with no saddle or reins. I haven't a flowing mane, I've only this horsy face, But under the ocean waves I'm king of the steeplechase. Seahorse, Seahorse Can't run any races, Tiny little bodies With cute little faces. Skeletons on the outside For protection, not show

We are almost done with our travels on the ocean floor Assistant We have one more animal to show you Tourist 1: What is it? What is it? Tourist 2: A Dolphin? Tourist 1: A turtle? Assistant It is a Jellyfish Narrator: The worlds largest jellyfish can grow to be over 120ft long. Tourist 1: That is HUGE Narrator: Like the Octopus, Jellyfish don't have any bones. They also don't have a brain or a heart. Jam: Hey! I have a soul! Maybe not a heart. I also make straight A s in school, play the trumpet, violin and piano. I can speak French, Latin, English and Spanish. I ve already published three children s books of poetry, but you re right-who needs a brain for that? We are just stating the facts for our tour group. I did not mean to offend you.

Jam: It s okay. My name is Jam and I m a Jellyfish. Don t get to close to me or I might accidently sting you! Assistant Well it was nice to meet you, Jam. Maybe we ll see you again later. Bye for now! JELLYFISH Stunning Beauty By Avis Harley How can this moon jelly play host to hot shocks---such sea-through beauty seems too sublime to sting. The Jellyfish by Douglas Florian Thin As a drape Umbrella shaped, It gently glides Through the seascape. Though small in size And with no eyes Its tentacles can paralyze. In sporty spurts It loves to flutter In its vain search For peanut Butter. Jellyfish Stew by Jack Prelutsky Jellyfish stew, I m loony for you, I dearly adore you, you re creepy to see revolting to chew,

you slide down inside with hullabaloo. You re soggy, you re smelly, you taste like shampoo, you bog down my belly with oodles of goo, yet I would glue noodles and prunes to my shoe, for one oozy spoonful of jellyfish stew. That was such an interesting tour. We got to see all kind of sea creatures. We learned so much about the ocean today. Home at Last by David L. Harrison Group hug. Our trip was neat, especially in the backseat. Everything we did was fun. Group hug for everyone! Home at last! I m glad we re here, But I can t wait until next year! Assistant We hope you all had fun. Remember that knowledge is power. The more we know about the ocean and it's inhabitants, the safer it is to explore it. That is true about most things, Ms. Flipper. That is why reading is so interesting and fun at the same time.

Assistant Let's go home and read some more. I'm really wanting to explore the desert next time. Do you think anyone would be interested in going with us? Tourist 1 & 2: We would! We would!
