2 Introduction Guiding Lights is the UK film industry s leading mentoring programme. We are now accepting applications for Guiding Lights 8, and will select a group of participants to take part in a new round of the scheme, set to launch in July Guiding Lights supports and develops promising film talent through high-level mentoring, complemented by a range of training and networking activities. Successful applicants will each be matched with a well-established film industry professional, who will provide advice and guidance over a 9-month period. During this time a number of face-to-face meetings will take place with phone or contact in between. Alongside the one-to-one mentoring, participants will benefit from a number of industry training and networking events. Further access to high-level filmmakers and business professionals is provided through an online facility. This year we are delighted to be partnering again with Film Hub South East (FHSE) - part of the BFI Film Audience Network (FAN) and Screen Training Ireland and Bórd Scannánna héireann/irish Film Board. FHSE will support the participation of a professional working in exhibition in the South East region, defined for these purposes as Berkshire, East Sussex, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Kent, Oxfordshire, Surrey and West Sussex. Screen Training Ireland and Bórd Scannánna héireann/irish Film Board will support one female writer, and one female director to take part on the scheme for further information please see the Guidelines for Ireland Applicants. Guiding Lights aims to help improve diversity within the UK film industry by addressing the issues of access which individuals often face when progressing their careers. We welcome applications from across the community, and will provide financial assistance to those who require it for pre-agreed travel, subsistence and childcare costs. We are also able to facilitate access for deaf and disabled people please see the Equal Opportunities section for further information. Guiding Lights is run by Lighthouse, and supported by Creative Skillset s Film Skills Fund, which is funded by BFI with National Lottery funds and through the Skills Investment Fund. All information is available in large print format, and can be downloaded from the website: 2

3 Who Can Apply? We are seeking applications from: Writers Directors Producers Professionals working in exhibition in the South East region** **defined for these purposes as Berkshire, East Sussex, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Kent, Oxfordshire, Surrey and West Sussex. Due to limited resources, we are only able to assess applications against one set of criteria. Although certain disciplines often cross over, particularly in the case of writer/directors, the application process requires that you select only one field under which your submission will be considered. All applicants must: have a permanent UK address; and not be in full time education. Guiding Lights is a talent development programme, not a training scheme. It is therefore not open to entry-level participants. Applicants must demonstrate a proven track record in their field, along with a strong commitment to pro-actively trying to advance their film career. We are looking for candidates who have reached a critical point in their professional development, and who will particularly benefit from high-level mentoring and access to industry. Please refer to the relevant Eligibility & Application Information section to check the eligibility criteria for your specific discipline. Equal Opportunities Guiding Lights encourages applications from, and gives equal access to, all sections of the community.
