1 PANTHEON News and Information For The CCM Community September 7, 2010 CCM Takes Major Prizes at CEA Event CCM theatre faculty, students and alumni took home ma - jor honors at the 14th annual Cincinnati Entertainment Awards held Sunday, August 29. In addition to the previ - ously announced Hall of Fame tribute bestowed on Musical Aubrey Berg, Cohen Drama Chair Richard Hess accepted as director of You Can t Take It With You, named Outstanding University Play, and Berg accepted a similar award when Hair was named Outstanding Univer- Alaina Mills (as Christine Colgate) in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels - egie was named Best Local Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical, while Adjunct Assistant Professor of Drama Robert Pavlovich took the male counterpart award for his work as Mr. Zero in Adding Machine: A Musical of Cincinnati). In the Critical Achievement Categories, awarded by the and Production graduate Brian c. Mehring was recognized for his scenic design for 33 Variations of Cincinnati). 3 Emmy Award Won by Second TD&P Graduate And yet another Emmy Award for yet another graduate of CCM s Lighting Design progam. Graduate Travis Hagenbuch writes with the following terrific news concerning his recent Emmy Award nomination: I hope this finds you all well as you get ready for Fall Quarter. I wanted to pass along that I won the 2010 Emmy Award for Outstanding Lighting Direction for my work on the Vancouver Olympics Opening Ceremony. I was lucky to be one of three award recipients for the project, the others being Lighting Designer Bob Dickinson and Lighting Director Ted Wells. Attached is a picture from shortly after the ceremony. It goes without saying that my time at CCM was instrumental in preparing me for life in this end of the business. The niche world of variety TV is related to theatre in many ways, and I m really excited to be able to bring CCM some news from this side of the country.

4 Roig-Francoli Premieres Work A new sonata for violin and piano by Professor of Music Theory and Composition Miguel A. Roig-Francolí, Songs of the Infinite, was premiered on July 10 at the Burgos (Spain) International Music Festival, by Jennifer Roig-Francolí (violin) and Adam Kent (piano). The piece, commissioned by the Foundation for Iberian Music (CUNY), will receive its US premiere by the same performers at Weill Hall (Carnegie Hall) on October 24. Roig-Francolí s Suite Apócrifa, for piano, will also be performed at the same concert. The Burgos recording of the five movements of Songs of the Infinite is now available on YouTube: query=roig-francoli+and+songs+of+the+in finite&aq=f Award-Winning Video by E-Media Grads on CET Arts An award-winning video produced by two recent graduates of the E-Media Division will be shown on CET s arts channel this month. Today, is a 17-minute introspective approach to a concert performance, according to Dustin Chow, CCM 10, the co-producer of the project. CET is Cincinnati s public television outlet. Today is based on an original song composed by co-producer Steven Shaefer, CCM 09, and performed by the band the men belong to, Where they Landed. The video was shot as the band and an ensemble of CCM music students performed at the Cincinnati Art Museum, Eden Park, Ault Park, and the Cincinnati Observatory. It will be aired on CET Arts channel which is carried over the air at 48.3 and over Time Warner cable on channel 988. Today will air at 8:00 p.m. on September 16; at 8:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on September 17; and at 10 a.m., 3:00 p.m. and 10 p.m. on September 18. The video won a national College Television Award in April. Chow and Shaefer were flown to Los Angeles to pick up their award at a black tie gala. Today was produced in E-Media Professor Kevin Burke s senior project class in Chow and Shaefer now run a production company called Today Cincinnati Productions.

5 Drama 11 Student Featured on Modern Family Congratulations to Stephen Shore (CCM Drama 2011) in his first featured role as a DINOSAUR on Modern Family on ABC. I am a cheap knock off Godzilla in what seems to be a suit made for Godzilla s retarded cousin, for a cheap knock off Japanese-owned mattress store spoofing the cheap Godzilla movies. I came in as Savezilla and slashed and knocked down prices, styro-foam numbers on top of cutouts of Manhattan style buildings. It s complete with over the top Japanese dialects and all. It was hysterical. I could hardly see out of what were supposed to be its eye holes. So I really just waved and flapped my arms and hoped I hit the right stuff. It may have been more of an interpretive dance more than anything.
