3 Class Acts season sponsored by Through the Class Acts series of daytime performing arts events, your students can experience artistic, educational, and high quality performances created for young audiences. Attendance at any Class Acts performance can help your students meet Common Core Standards in Reading, which include dance, music, theatre, and visual arts within the definition of a text. We hope you will integrate this arts experience into your classroom by using the Teacher Guide, which is mailed 3-4 weeks before the performance. The Teacher Guide includes Attendance Information with directions, a campus map, arrival procedures, and information about appropriate behavior. Students whose behavior is disruptive to others will be asked to wait in the lobby with a chaperone. If your class includes low-income students, please ask the Ticket Office about our Seat Scholarship Program. Youth programming in the Class Acts series and in conjunction with other Sangamon Auditorium events is supported in part by the Helen Hamilton Performing Arts Endowment for Youth Fund, gifts from Elizabeth and Robert Staley, and a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency. Most workshop leaders have been vetted by the Kennedy Center s rigorous Changing Education Through the Arts program, and their workshops have included Standing in a Character s Shoes: Deeper Meaning Through Monologues, Sing to Freedom: Music of the Underground Railroad, and Reading Portraits as Biographies. Participating teachers have established deeper roots for arts and arts-integrated learning in their schools and earned hours toward their teaching recertification.
