2 GETTING STARTED Thank you for choosing the C-Ray 200 series as your LED lighting system. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS Check to make sure the power cord, plug, and socket are intact and snugly connected. Never look directly at the lights as the Ultraviolet and Infrared emitted may cause damage to the eyes or skin. Always minimize direct exposure to eyes and skin. A drip loop is highly recommended for all electronic equipment used with aquariums. Cobalt International, Inc. is not responsible for injuries or equipment damage due to misuse of this light. Make sure the fixture is securely attached to the hanging kit or mounting bracket prior to using the light. It is highly recommended to mount the light while unplugged. Regularly clean ventilation openings to avoid issues related to insufficient ventilation. Avoid water contact with the light. If the fixture or power supply is damaged, consult a licensed electrical professional for repairs.

6 USING THE TOUCH BUTTONS TO CONTROL LIGHTS The touch buttons are very sensitive, touch only with dry fingers or the buttons may not register contact. Unlocking the Touch Buttons To keep your light safe from unwanted or accidental changes to the light performance, the touch buttons automatically lock after a short period of no use. To unlock press the up and down arrows simultaneously until you here the light beep.the touch buttons are now active. After 10 seconds of non-use, the buttons will automatically lock again. If you still need to do more adjustments at the light, simply repeat the unlocking process again. On/Off Button Touch the button to turn on the C-Ray 200. Touching the button again will shut the light off. When the fixture is turned on it will increase in brightness gradually to protect the user s eyes. Moonlight Button Touch the button to turn on the moonlight.the array has four preset brightness increments; 0, 1, 2, and 3. Fill Light Button Touch the button to turn on the fill light strip. The strip has four preset brightness increments; 0, 1, 2, and 3. Intensity and Color Switch Button Cycle through the light programs by using the button.the fixture s default programs can be accessed and customized through the downloadable app. 5

7 USING THE TOUCH BUTTONS TO CONTROL LIGHTS Cycle Color Up Button This button has 6 preset brightness increments; 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. Cycle Color Down Button This button has 6 preset brightness increments; 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, and 0. Start Lamp Connect the C-Ray 200 to the power adapter and plug it into a wall outlet.

9 Installing the Hanging Kit Unscrew the bottom of the ceiling mount adapter and insert the mounting screw into the top. Using the screw, securely attach the adapter to a hard surface which is attached securely to a solid beam or stud. Mounting the light directly into drywall, particle board, or similar material may cause the fixture to come unsecured and fall. If attaching directly to drywall without using a stud, using a heavy duty drywall anchor is highly recommended. (Figure 1) Feed the hanging wire, thin end first, through the bottom of the ceiling mount adapter until the bulb is snug against the bottom. Screw the bottom into the fastened ceiling mount adapter until it is tightened snugly. (Figure 1) Unscrew the bottom of the hanging kit adapter and feed the hanging wire into the slot. Screw the bottom back into the hanging kit adapter until it is secure. If adjustments are needed, partially unscrew the bottom, adjust as desired, then re-tighten the screw. (Figure 2) Tightly screw the two light attachment screws into the holes located near the cooling fans on the top of the fixture. (Figure 2) While pressing down on the thin shaft at the top of the hanging kit adapter, feed the hanging kit wire through until it is set to the desired length. Releasing the shaft will lock the wire in place. If adjustments are needed, depress the locking shaft and raise or lower the light as desired. Once the light is securely mounted and all desired adjustments are made, connect the light to the power adapter and plug into a power source. Make sure to make a drip loop before the plug in the wall. (Figure 3)

11 Installing the Mounting Bracket Securely fasten the upright to the aquarium attachment bracket. (Figure 1) Attach the mounting bracket to the upright. (Figure 2) Put the aquarium attachment bracket over the tank rim and secure with the included screws. (Figure 3) Slide the attachment bar into the mounting guide (Figure 4) and secure using the included screws. (Figure 4) Fit the attachment bar into the mounting bracket and secure with the included screws. (Figure 5) Using the included wire clamp, secure the electrical wire to the mounting bracket. (Figure 6) Once the light is securely mounted and all desired adjustments are made, connect the light to the power adapter and plug into a power source. Make sure to make a drip loop before the plug in the wall. (Figure 6) 10

12 IOS Operating System or above is recommended. IOS device open Apple Store. Search for and download Cobalt App. Android device open Google Play. Search for and download Cobalt App. 1. Download and install the appropriate version of the control app to your mobile device. Search Cobalt in your app store. 2. Make sure the light is connected to a power source. 3. Unlock touch buttons by pressing and simultaneously until you here the light beep. 4. Turn on light by pressing the power button. 5. Press and simultaneously for 2 to 3 seconds until the light makes a beeping sound. 6. Release buttons. Light is now in Connect Directly to the Light Mode. 11

13 7. On your mobile device go to settings, WiFi, then connect to the C-Ray WiFi SSID by selecting the C-Ray 200-XXXX. The default password for the C-Ray is (Figure 1) 8. Go to the Cobalt app Home page and press the Connect drop down and select Search Device. (Figure 2) 9. On the Search Device page, press the search icon to find the the light. (Figure 3) 10. Once the light is detected select it and touch the check button. (Figure 4) 11. Press Connect button at bottom of page to complete connection to the light fixture. 14 Connecting via Wireless Router This setting can be used if both the mobile device and the C-Ray 200 have access to a wireless network. It allows the user to control multiple lights at the same time and allows mobile device to keep internet access. 1. Download and install the appropriate version of the control app to your mobile device. Search Cobalt in your app store to get the app. 2. Make sure the light is connected to a power source. 3. Connect your mobile device to the desired wireless router. 4. Unlock touch buttons by pressing and. simultaneously until you here the light beep. (Figure 1) 5. Turn on light by pressing power button. (Figure 2) Figure 1 Figure 2 6. Press and simultaneously until light beeps to turn on wireless router connect mode. The moonlights will flash then the light will restart. (Figures 3 and 4) 7. After the light restarts two lights will flash indicating the light is ready to connect. Figure 3 Figure 4

15 Connecting via Wireless Router 8. Open the C-Ray App home page and select the Connect to Router option in the drop down menu. (Figure 1) 9. Follow the in app instructions and press next to enter the WiFi network and password. 10. Press start to connect. If connection is successful the indicator lights will stop flashing. 11. Go back to the Cobalt App main and press Connect drop down and select Search Device. (Figure 3) 12. Once the light is detected select it and touch the check button. (Figure 4) Press Connect button at bottom of page to complete connection to the light fixture. 19 Cloud Page Go back to the previous page. Simulated sunlight at selected cloud intensity. Intensity Slider Slide the bar to adjust the cloud cover intensity between 0-100%. Start Button Tap to preview the cloud effect and tap again to stop.

23 How to Select a Timer Profile 1. Press Program button on bottom right of app. 2. Select desired profile from the page. If you chose to use a DIY profile. Please refer to DIY programing instructions (# s 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8). 3. If you selected one of the pre-programmed profiles, you will see the timer profile graph, these are not adjustable in the pre-programmed profiles (# s 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6). To preview the profile, hit the DEMO button. (Figure 1) 4. If you want to use the profile, hit the START button, the app will then upload the profile to the light and the light will start using the profile. (Figure 1) Figure 1 22

24 DIY Page Go back to the previous page. Download the program for the light to your phone for easy sharing. Select the hour the desired mix of color channels will be active. Add Time Point Tap to add another time point to continue light programming. Delete Time Point Tap to delete a time point. Auto-generated graph showing intensity of each color channel at a given time. Intensity Indicator Indicates the current intensity of all color channels. 23

25 DIY Page Tap to add a cloud effect. Storm Tap to add a storm effect. Tap to begin a brief demo of the programmed schedule. Tap to create a lunar cycle. How to Set DIY Timer Program 1. Press DIY button (page 21, button #7) 2. Type in name you wish to call this timer profile and click OK. The app will then return to Program screen. 3. Find your profile name you just created and select it. 4. Use slider on time graph to slide to a desired time that you would like to have a set point (#8) and then click on the blue clock button to create set point (#5). 5. One the next screen use each color channel slider to set each channel to desired intensity for that time (#7). Then hit the back arrow in top left corner (#1). 6. Repeat step 5 and 6 until you complete your 24 hour light profile. 7. To delete an individual time setting, hit the red clock button (#6). 8. Once your profile is completed, hit save button to save changes (#13). 9. You can then hit Demo button (#12) to see a high speed version of your profile. 10. Press Program button on bottom right of app. 11. To use the profile, hit Start button (#14) and app will upload profile to light and begin using this profile. 24

26 The manual option will only change intensity of a selected color channel. It does not affect light schedule. Select lock to remain on manual mode. The light will stay at the selected intensity; locking in manual mode is not recommended if it s not needed. Slide the bar to change the intensity of each color. Sliding the bar will increase or decrease channel intensity between 0-100%. Slide the bar to change the intensity of Fill light. Sliding the bar will change the intensity of the moon light. 25

27 Time Settings Page Go back to the previous page. Tap to toggle light on/off at a given time point. Clock Tap to fine-tune time setting for a given time point on the spectral graph. Spectral Graph Current graph of spectral output. Slide to increase or decrease intensity of each color channel. Percentage Indicator Indicates color channel intensity in percent format. Slide to change intensity of the Fill Light. Moonlight Slide to change intensity of the Moonlight.

28 Not detecting light after setting up WiFi a. Pull down the connect list to refresh b. Make sure the WiFi indicator light is solid blue. c. Make sure the phone is connected to the correct light SSID and wireless router. If this does not work, repeat the WiFi set up. Can t find the light WiFi name on your mobile device signal list for direct connection. a. Make sure the light didn t connect to the local WiFi router. b. Make sure your mobile device isn t too far away from the light. App crashes during connection a. Make sure you connect to the correct network. b. Pull down the connection menu to refresh. One or more lights are missing from app list a. Make sure your device is connected to the correct light WiFI SSID and wireless router. b. Pull down the connection menu to refresh c. Make sure your mobile device isn t too far from the light. Syncing multiple fixtures a. Choose Connect to Wireless Router, search for all lights detected by your wireless router. b. Select the group of lights you want to control simultaneously. Losing power a. Make sure the fixture is connected to a power source. b. Make sure the light is connected to the correct light SSID and wireless router. c. Pull down the connect list to refresh. The app and fixture aren t synchronizing under program mode a. Make sure your mobile device is at real time setting. b. Make sure your mobile device is connected to the correct light SSID and wireless router. c. Pull down the connect list to refresh. d. Enter program mode and make sure your customized program is saved and started, using the appropriate buttons. 27

29 Indicator lamp turns of after 3 sec. Indicator lamp flashes two times then turns off. Indicator lamp flashes three times then turns off. Indicator lamp continually flashes. Indicator lamp turns off. Indicator lamp stays on. Lamp is working under connect directly to the light mode. (When power is turned on, the indicatior light will be off a few seconds, which means WiFi is working under the connnect to light mode WiFi is working under the network mode and is waiting for configuration status. If the light is in network mode, but is not connected to the router, then you will need to use manual setting to connect light to router. WiFi is working under the network mode and and error has occurred while connecting to the router. This could be a password error, or the router is turned off. Light is transmitting data. Light is not transmitting data. Light and Wifi Network are working properly. 28

30 Cobalt International, Inc. (also, Cobalt) warrants to the original purchaser that the Cobalt International Lighting Product will be free from material or workmanship defects under normal use for a period of twelve (12) months from the date of registration. In order for this warranty to be valid, the purchaser must submit the below registration card and a copy of proof of purchase within thirty (30) days of purchase, and the item is used properly and installed in a manner consistent with the product manual. No representation or warranty by any Cobalt International sales person, dealer, agent, representative, employee or any other individual or entity acting or purporting to act on behalf of Cobalt International, shall be binding upon Cobalt International other than expressly set forth herein. This warranty applies only to the original purchaser and is non-transferrable from the original consumer purchaser. In the event of a warranty claim, proof of purchase will be required. Cobalt International s warranty shall not apply: (i) to any damaged Cobalt International Lighting Product that has been subjected to accident, misuse, neglect, alteration, acts of God, improper handling, improper transport, improper storage, improper use or application, improper installation, improper testing or unauthorized repair, operation outside recommended parameters (as described in the product manual, for example, damage from saltwater spray or heat) power fluctuation or failure, subjection to abnormal physical or electrical stress, use of incompatible products, non-approved power supplies/connections, or similar circumstances (ii) to any Cobalt International Lighting Product where product has been exposed to water or (iii) to cosmetic problems or defects that result from normal wear and tear under ordinary use, and do not affect the performance or use of the product. Cobalt International s warranty applies only to a product that is manufactured by or for Cobalt International and identified by the Cobalt International trade name or production identification logo, or those of any subsidiary divisions of Cobalt International, for example, Cobalt Aquatics, affixed to the product. If the user notices any problem with the Cobalt International Lighting Product, do not attempt to repair it. All attempts at self-repair shall void this warranty. Cobalt International shall not be held liable for damage to any aquarium, aquarium life forms, or other personal objects due to the improper use of the device. If the product develops a covered defect within the one-year period, Cobalt International will, at its discretion, either repair or replace the Cobalt International Lighting Product without charge, provided that the Cobalt International Lighting Product is returned within the one-year period. NOTE: FOR THE ONE (1) YEAR WARRANTY TO BECOME EFFECTIVE, THE PRODUCT TO WHICH THE WARRANTY RELATES MUST BE REGISTERED WITHING THIRTY (30) DAYS OF PURCHASE. 31 Please be prepared with your product model and serial number, as well as a proof of purchase. DATED PROOF OF PURCHASE IS REQUIRED TO PROCESS WARRANTY CLAIMS. REGISTRATION OF YOUR PRODUCT SATISFIES THE PROOF OF PURCHASE REQUIREMENT. If you are requested to return your product to Cobalt International, you will be given a Return Materials Authorization (RMA) number. You are responsible for properly packaging and shipping your product to Cobalt, this includes the cost of shipping and any applicable insurance (both to and from Cobalt s service location). Cobalt is not responsible for, and this warranty does not cover, damage to products incurred in shipping. Please take efforts to package your product properly. You must include the RMA number and, if the product is not registered, a copy of your dated proof of original purchase when returning your product. Products received without an RMA number and, if applicable, dated proof of original purchase will be rejected. Do not include any other items with the product that you are returning to Cobalt. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY. ALL WARRANTIES ARE VOID IF THERE IS DAMAGE TO THE COVERED PRODUCT(S) THAT IS NOT A RESULT OF A DEFECT IN THE MATERIALS OR WORKMANSHIP. Cobalt International s warranty is governed by the laws of the State of South Carolina, excluding its conflict of laws principles and excluding the provisions of the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. This warranty give you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights, which vary from state to state. If Cobalt International provides any of the remedies identified above (i.e., repair, replacement, or return of the original purchase price), then the Buyer agrees that this limitation of remedy shall not have failed the essential purpose of the Limited Warranty. 30
