Once in place it enables you to monitor full and half duplex communication and move test equipment without breaking the circuit. As it is a passive device, it can stay into your network and allows permanent monitoring of the network. It mirrors any packet size, bad CRC, VLAN traffic, sees both ends of full-duplex links. The E3/DS3 Tap is a single port Tap for DS3, ATM, E3, T3 and FT3 links. It is invisible to the network and passes on traffic from all network layers for comprehensive troubleshooting. It is fault tolerant, bypasses data on power failure, the monitor (TAP) ports are none-intrusive to the network.

4 Page 4 Q U A L I T Y 1 S T T A P 2. Functional description The Unit has 6 BNC connectors on the front, port A and B are connected to the network, TAP ports A and B are connected to the analyser. Network ports A and B are hardware wired together. One power LED shows the presence of power. The E3/DS3 6xBNC TAP is powered from the back. The external power can be chained as the power has 2 input sockets. The unit will at power failure automatically bypass data from one Network port to the other. No data is passed to the TAP ports at power failure, the ON LED do not light.

Connect it into the network using BNC 75 Ohm coaxial cables. Network A : TX from DCE into Port A in RX from DCE into Port A out Network B: TX from DTE into Port B in RX from DTE into Port B out TAP port A mirrors data received in Port A, TAP port B mirrors data received in Port B.
