4 General Terms of Payment and Delivery SUPPLY CONDITIONS: We make efforts for fast and correct delivery. Usually, we ship within 1-2 working days. We try to avoid part delivery; however it is indespensable in few instances. SHIPMENT AND PACKING COSTS: Customers from EU countries without VAT No. need to pay the German VAT (19%). Bank fees and transfer surcharges need to be paid by customer. Additionally, we will charge a processing fee of Euro plus postage. After order, we will send a Proforma Invoice, covering all costs. Postage depends on country of destination, size and weight of the goods. Express mail must be added to bill. MINIMUM ORDER VALUES: The minimum order value for accessories and disposables amounts to 100,00 (total value of the goods). PAYMENT CONDITIONS: EU customers without valid VAT ID are charged the German value-added tax amounting to 19%. Bank charges and any transfer surcharges are to be borne by the Customer. We always charge a handling fee of 15.00, excluding postage, for international transactions. After ordering, you receive a proforma invoice with the shipping costs specified separately. 69 Instructions for the handling and care of electrodes, electro-caps and cables The respective manufacturers have assured us that all our accessories are manufactured in accordance with ISO 9001 / ISO 9002 and conformant to the Directive 93/42 EEC. These products may only be used in accordance with their intended purpose. In individual cases, special product-related care and handling instructions are enclosed. The technical and, in particular, hygienic condition of accessories for EEG and EMG traces should be checked at short and regular intervals. Good and meaningful measurement results are only achieved with perfect accessories. It is imperative to ensure that plug connections of whatever kind never come into contact with liquids and that they are disconnected by pulling the plug connector itself, not the cable. Pulling on the cable inevitably results in irreparable damage. TRACING AND STIMULATION ELECTRODES... are consumables and cannot be repaired if defective. If in doubt regarding the proper functioning of any of your accessories, send them to us for checking. EEG TRACING ELECTRODES... with felt cover should be rinsed with warm water daily after use. Before starting the next trace, you should dip the felts into 0.9% saline solution. Change the felts regularly. Change also the EEG tracing cables in good time should the spring contacts corrode or break off. This avoids electrode artefacts. AUTOCLAVABLE EMG NEEDLE ELECTRODES... become blunt when used often. Your EMG traces will then become fuzzy or noisy in most cases. EMG DISPOSABLE NEEDLE ELECTRODES... are always to be used as intended! Any reuse and recycling constitutes a violation of 4 of the German Medical Products Act ( MPG ) in conjunction with 43 MPG. STIMULATION AND TRACING ELECTRODES WITH FELT INSERTS... should be cleaned daily using warm water. To this end, remove the felts from the electrodes. Any residues accumulating under the felts will destroy the electrodes in the long run and lead to high transition resistances and thus the well-known disturbing artefacts. Clean also your ground electrodes at regular intervals. CARE AND CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETE EEG CAPS COMBY cap AND ELECTRO cap Before the electro-cap is used for the first time or when not used for a longer time, the electrodes must be cleaned using soaked cotton buds. After daily use, wash the electro-cap with warm water and a light solution of a liquid hand disinfectant. Rinse out the cap, dry in a cloth and lay out overnight until it is completely dry. Make sure that no gel residues remain and dry on the electrodes, as this would form an extremely resistant layer hindering further examinations. Any such gel residues are to be removed exclusively by way of a cotton bud soaked in alcohol (70%). If necessary, use gas sterilisation. IMPORTANT: Under no circumstances must the electrodes be cleaned using abrasive or sharp agents; this would destroy the electrode for ever. The accessories can be disinfected, for example, with Lysetol FF 1.5% or GIGASEPT AF 1.5% (aldehydefree) in tap water with an exposure time of max. 60 minutes. Furthermore, all solutions commonly used in hospitals and surgeries for wipe disinfection are permissible. Only water in conjunction with a light soap solution should be used for cleaning. This, however, does not sterilise the medical accessories. If you need to do so - for example, in the case of patients with infectious diseases -, it is recommended to use disposable products. NEEDLE CARE INSTRUCTIONS Autoclavable needles must be sterilised each time before use, also prior to their first use. Before autoclaving at 136 C for 20 min., clean the needle / protective cover with clean water. The needle body must not be come into contact with any solution or lye. Make sure that the needles are not exposed to temperatures above 140 C. Any deviations from the recommendations for sterilisation given here fall into the responsibility of the user. The effectiveness of the sterilisation lies exclusively in the responsibility of the user. In your own interest, we recommend that you have routine maintenance performed on the autoclave at regular intervals. After use, we recommend that you clean the needles immediately using a swab or the like soaked in alcohol to remove any biological residues, and that you insert the needle into the needle sleeve immediately. Needles should always be stored in their protective sleeve. Alternatively, we would like to refer to the recommendations of Deutsche Gesellschaft für klinische Neurophysiologie (German Society for Clinical Neurophysiology and Functional Imaging) which can be found at (English abstract: thieme-connect.com/products/ejournals/abstract/ /s ?device=mobile). We recommend that you sharpen and treat the needle electrolytically after approx. 20 times of use. 69

70 Recommendations for handling needles *) in the age of CJD**) *) EMG, EEG, EVP etc., **) Creutzfeld-Jakob disease Recently, patients displaying symptoms of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) were determined within CJD patients. The discussion regarding possible transmission via needles used in EMG and NCV examinations, but also in EEG and EVP examinations, gives reason for the following recommendation: If a patient known to be suffering from CJD is to be examined using needle electrodes, the needles must not be used again and must be disposed of in an appropriate manner (e.g. using 1M caustic soda lye). It is possible, however, that patients suffering from CJD may be examined unknowingly in the EMG or EEG laboratory within the framework of routine tracings. All one can say in this regard is: The exclusive use of one-way needles provides the best guarantee that no diseases are transmitted.
