2 ST Strategy ST s offer of the underlying Wireless Technology begins first with the silicon process technology offering. For optimized, integrated transceivers, ST proposes the BiCMOS6G process, a 0.35µm CMOS and bipolar process supporting silicon germanium (SiGe) transistors. These transistors are ideally suited for high frequency (2GHz+), low noise and low power operation. ST s first product offering, called Rainbow, is a Blue compliant radio transceiver featuring an advanced architecture with autocalibration, low power consumption and low external component count for small form factor implementations. One of the keys to the success of Wireless Technology will be the availability of low cost solutions. ST addresses this need with BlueVelvet, its single chip and Baseband IC. BlueVelvet is designed on an advanced 0.18µm CMOS process with high performance characteristics, that allows to design on the same die high speed, highly integrated digital circuitry and high performance radio front-end. Interoperability of different core implementations is a must. To ensure widest possible coverage, ST has licensed Ericsson's Core Technology. ST realizes that providing chips is only part of the story, particularly in the section, where many customers do not necessarily have expertise. ST will provide the complete protocol software as well as advanced module solutions. The pre-certified modules will guarantee interoperability and speed up time-to-market. Another important part of any complete solution is the integration into the final application. ST s dedicated Core Competence Centre has been setup to achieve this result. The mission of this group is to assist ST s customers in the development and integration of this Wireless Technology solution in the customer s application. According to the most recent data from independent sources, ST is the world's leading supplier of automotive ICs, MPEG-2 decoder ICs, digital Set-Top-Box ICs, and Smartcard MCUs, and is also the second leading supplier of analog and mixed-signal ASSPs and ASICs and disk drive ICs. Based on ST s expertise and dominant positions in these segments, new products are currently under development that will incorporate and exploit Wireless technology.
