3 When your Abstract is Accepted Abstracts are accepted and presenters no)fied around June 1 prior to the Annual Mee)ng Make your travel plans & register for the mee)ng Add the Speaker & Moderator Breakfast (no charge) for the day you are presen)ng & a>end this breakfast You must check in with moderator

4 Presenta)on Nuts & Bolts Powerpoint presenta)on set to 16:9 format PC laptops (save presenta)on as powerpoint format if using Keynote for Mac) Presenta)on on USB Loaded during the Speakers / Moderators Breakfast heather@aegweb.org for DropBox access Do not bring & expect to load on computer right before you are scheduled to speak You are not finished at breakfast un)l you have checked in with your moderator

5 Adjus)ng to 16:9 (Widescreen) For Powerpoint on Mac: File > Page Setup > Slides sized for 16:9 For Powerpoint on PC See instruc)ons below Widescreen stretches slides out to the sides, including photos / images. Do this before adding images.

7 Your Presenta)on Time Presenter has a strict 20 minute )me limit Intended to include: Transi)on to load your presenta)on & moderator to do a brief introduc)on (1 minute) Your presenta.on (15 minutes) Ques)on / Answer period (2-3 minutes) Transi)on to exit podium (1 minute)

8 Electronic Timer Green light un)l 16 min Yellow from mins Red at 18 mins (absolutely stop talking or responding to ques)ons) You will see )me at podium Moderator will cut off discussion at 18 minutes

9 Great Presenta)ons Plan for 1 minute per slide = 15 slides Allow enough prep )me to edit & prac)ce! Embedded videos can be difficult plan to load & prac)ce this feature during the speaker breakfast and skip if it won t work 15 minutes is too short to transi)on between mul)ple speakers plan for 1 person to talk

10 Consider your Font & Colors Different Colors & FONTS Look like Graffiti and are distracting Avoid yellow it s difficult to read on the screen UPPERCASE TEXT IS INTERPRETED AS YELLING! Using Comic Sans or handwriting evokes a less professional tone PT Mono or typewriter are boring Avoid too small or too large 30 point is good

11 Color & Font Choices Red / Green color blindness is common (avoid red text on a black background) Non-serif fonts appear more clearly at a distance Calibri, Arial, Lucida = non-serif Garamond, Times New Roman = serif

12 Avoid Distrac)ng Transi)ons Avoid distrac)ng bullet advancements or too many different transi)ons

13 Too much text on a Slide Prac)ce your talk without reading all the words on each bullet point. Use text as a reminder, not script. Try not to encroach on the border of the slides. It s okay to have short ideas, just don t plan to read your speech en)rely off your screen. Does this slide look like something you would want to watch for 15 minutes? (hint: no, it s boring) Limit slides to words on the page, more than this is too much! (this has 91 words including header).
