1 CHAPTER 5 Cabling and Completing Assembly of the Cisco TelePresence System 1000 Revised: April 5, 2010, Introduction This chapter describes how to set up and connect the cables, microphone and Cisco Unified IP phone, how to connect the codec and display cables to the PDU, and how to attach the front panel to the frame for the Cisco TelePresence System 1000 (CTS 1000). 2 Parts List Parts List This section provides a list of the parts that will be used in this chapter. Table 5-1 lists the component parts. For more detailed instructions, see the following sections. To place the components and attach the cables, complete the following steps: 1. Install the microphone and plug it into the codec. 2. Install the Cisco Unified IP Phone and plug it into the codec. 3. Install the VGA holder and cables and plug the cable into the codec. 5-2
3 Understanding the Codec 4. Plug the camera cables into the codec. 5. Plug the plasma display cables into the codec and PDU. 6. Plug the speaker cable into the codec. 7. Connect the codec to the network. 8. Connect the codec to the PDU. 9. Plug the PDU into the wall outlet. 10. Attach the front panel to the frame. For diagrams of the cabling, see Cabling Diagrams, page Understanding the Codec The codec is the local processor in Cisco TelePresence system. The codec handles the network and telephony requirements in the call and processes the local video, audio, and data signals. Figure 5-1 shows the physical ports available on the codec. Table 5-3 identifies some of the ports that are used for the Cisco TelePresence System Subsequent sections describe how to connect components to the appropriate ports on the codec. Note Your codec might have one microphone connection instead of three; the connections and descriptions are the same for either type of codec. 5 Setting Up the Microphone Table 5-3 Component Cable Connections (continued) Component Port Connection Cable Description Network connection RJ-45 cable Peripheral device Video or other cable (optional; user supplied) Setting Up the Microphone This section describes how to set up the microphone and plug it in to the codec. Mounting and Cabling the Microphone This section describes how to mount the microphone on the table. The seat alignment guide enables the best quality audio for all participants in the Cisco TelePresence System To attach the microphone to the seat alignment guide, follow these steps. Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Step 5 Step 6 Step 7 Step 8 Step 9 Get the following parts: Microphone, P/N xx Seat alignment guide, P/N CTS1K-SAG Microphone cable holder, P/N Orient the seat alignment guide so that the smooth surface is on top. Thread the microphone cable through the hole in the center of the seat alignment guide and through the channel on the bottom of the guide that is closest to the codec. Align the through holes in the bottom of the guide with the threaded holes in the microphone and secure with the screws and washers. Attach the microphone cable holder to the edge of the table that is nearest the CTS 1000 display. Place the guide on the table approximately 18 inches (46 centimeters) forward of where the participants will sit. Align the microphone with the vertical center of the display. Route the microphone cable along the wall and across the floor to the codec in such a way that it is out of sight. Bundle any excessive cable with a tie-wrap or other fastener. 5-5
6 Installing the VGA Holder and Connecting the DVI-to-VGA Cable Step 10 Step 11 Locate the green microphone icon as shown in Figure 5-1; this is the microphone jack. Plug the microphone into the microphone jack. Installing the VGA Holder and Connecting the DVI-to-VGA Cable The CTS-100 includes a DVI-to-VGA cable that allows you to connect your system to an external presentation source. A cable holder is included with the CTS-100 system to assist in the management and routing of this cable. You route the cable from the codec to the location of the presentation source (for example, a laptop computer) and install the cable holder at that location. To connect the DVI-to-VGA cable and connect the cable holder., complete the following steps: Step 1 Step 2 Connect the DVI end of the DVI-to-VGA cable into the Auxiliary Video connection of the codec. See Figure 5-1 for the connection location. Determine a suitable location for the cable holder (for example, on the edge of a desk near a laptop computer). Step 3 Attach the rear cover to the location you determined in Step 2. See Figure 5-2 for more information. Step 4 Step 5 Step 6 Step 7 Step 8 Step 9 Attach the rear cover to the cable holder assembly. (Optional) Use the Velcro to join the audio jack and the VGA cable together. Route the cable along the floor and wall to the codec. Locate the DVI video jack to your left of the four HD Video jacks in the center of the codec as shown in Figure 5-1. Plug the DVI video connector into the VGA video jack. Plug the DVI audio cable (thin cable with a banana plug connector) into the first jack on the left side of the codec (next to the microphone jacks). 5-6

To place the IP phone and plug it into the codec, complete the following steps: Step 1 Get the following parts: Cisco Unified IP phone, P/N xx Step 2 Place the phone on the table where the participants will be seated. Step 3 Plug the RJ-45 phone cable into the phone. Step 4 Route the phone cable along the wall to the codec in a manner that the cable is out of view. Step 5 On the codec, locate the RJ-45 jacks in the center of the codec as shown in Figure 5-1. Step 6 Locate the phone icon and plug the phone cable into the jack. 5-7
8 Connecting the Camera To the Codec Connecting the Camera To the Codec This section describes how to plug the camera cables into the codec. To plug the camera cables into the codec, complete the following steps: Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Get the free ends of the network and HD Video cables that are suspended from the video processor attached to the camera cluster. Locate the three network jacks next to the four HD Video jacks in the middle of the codec and close to the wall as shown in Figure 5-1. Plug the network cable from the video processor into the camera connection on the codec. Attach the ferrite core to the video and Ethernet camera cables. Attach the ferrite cores to each side of the connection, approximately 1.5 inches (4 cm) from the ends of the cables. Figure 5-3 Attaching the Ferrite Cores to the Camera Cables Step 5 Plug the HD Video cable from the video processor into the HD Video camera jack on the codec. Note These Ethernet and HD Video jacks are next to each other. Cabling the Plasma Display This section describes how to plug the plasma display cables into the codec and PDU. Caution Make sure that the PDU cable is not plugged into the wall circuit. Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Get the free ends of the video and power cables that are attached to the plasma display. On the codec, locate the fourth-on-your-left HD Video jack (also the last HD Video jack in the sequence) as shown in Figure 5-1 and plug in the video cable for the display. If you have not done so, plug the display power cord into the PDU that is attached to the front panel. 5-8
9 Cabling the Speaker Cabling the Speaker This section describes how to plug the speaker cable into the codec. To plug the speaker cable into the codec, complete the following steps: Step 1 Get the end of the speaker cable that has only one connector. Step 2 On the codec, locate the bank of five jacks on you right and nearest the wall as shown in Figure 5-1. Step 3 Plug the speaker cable into the jack that is in the green field only. Note There is a speaker icon under the jack. Connecting the Codec to the Network This section describes how to connect the codec to the network. To connect the codec to the network, complete the following steps: Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Get the following parts: Cat 5 Ethernet cable, P/N xx, or equivalent On the codec, locate the bank of three Ethernet jacks in the middle section nearest the wall of the codec as shown in Figure 5-1. Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the first Ethernet jack on your right. Route the Ethernet cable to the nearest port that provides Ethernet connectivity to your network and install. Tip Be sure to route the cable in a manner that keeps it out of view and to bundle and secure any extra cable you may have. Connecting the Display and Codec Power Cables to the PDU This section describes how to connect the codec to the PDU. To connect the codec to the PDU, complete the following step: Note Make sure that the PDU is not plugged in to the wall outlet. Step 1 Step 2 Locate the power cords for the display and codec. Connect the display and codec power cords to the PDU. 5-9
10 Attaching the Front Panel to the Frame Note The PDU is located inside of the front cover. Attaching the Front Panel to the Frame After you attach all cables to the CTS 1000, attach the front panel by completing the following steps: Make sure that you have all cabling completed before you complete the steps in this section. In addition, make sure that you route the following cables to either side of the front panel: Auxiliary control unit power cable PDU power cable Cisco Unified IP Phone cable Network cable DVI-to-VGA cable Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Orient the front panel so it surrounds the codec and lower frame. Align the three, large, recessed holes on both sides of the speaker with the three threaded holes in the display support brackets as shown in Figure 5-4. Use six M8 x 20 mm screws to secure the front panel to the frame. 5-10
