1 Easter Objectives: Students will develop an understanding of Easter Students will practice and perform a dialogue Students will sing an Easter song Students will learn an Easter jazz chant Materials: vocabulary flashcards Easter props (optional) simple storybook about Jesus' death & resurrection Easter eggs candy for eggs bags for the hunt Easter bingo boards "Smarties" candy music for the "Bunny Hop" dance Vocabulary: Easter treat fine Easter eggs dine glow Easter basket crucified glisten Easter Bunny Jesus shine jelly beans cross favorite candy eggs pay perfect colored eggs price bend chocolate rabbit tomb scramble egg hunt angel reach hidden risen from the dead climb prize Session One: 1. Review selected materials from the previous day or days such as songs, jazz chant, vocabulary, or dialogue. 2. Warm-up with TPR (Total Physical Response) Touch your waist BEND at your waist BEND and touch your toes Put your hand above your head REACH up high with your hand REACH down and touch the floor Run in your place March in place March in place and reach up high with your hands Pretend to CLIMB up a ladder Stand behind your chair HIDE behind your chair
2 3. Introduce the Easter lesson. Easter is a holiday that we celebrate in the spring. On Easter morning, the Easter Bunny brings an Easter basket filled with colored eggs, or candy eggs, chocolate eggs to the homes of children. Some of these are very beautiful and the children keep to show them. The Easter Bunny may hide baskets for the children to find when they wake up in the morning. On Easter morning, when the boys and girls get up, they often go to look for their Easter basket or even Easter eggs. (Act out this scene with helpers and students one person with bunny ears quietly hiding a basket with goodies in it as the children sleep, then wake up and look for basket.) Sometimes the Easter bunny hides just Easter eggs. This is called an Easter egg hunt. (Again, you can demonstrate an egg hunt. You may want to hide a few Easter plastic eggs with a bit of candy inside in the room before the lesson starts.) 4. Teach dialogue #1or #2. Read the dialogue two times aloud; each time give the students something to listen for. Next the teacher reads a line the student repeats the line. The teacher then reads one part and the students read the other part. Next the teacher and students switch parts. Small Group Work Break into pairs (the number of speakers in a dialogue) and practice for two minutes. American listen to students and help with pronunciation of words or explain the meaning of words. Call several pairs of student to demonstrate in front of the group. Do not ask for volunteers. Students practice the dialogue without the use of the paper. The dialogue does not have to be exact. 5. Lead teacher introduces the idea of substitutions Brainstorm together possible word substitutions. (kinds of weather, day, months, activities, etc.) Demonstrate the dialogue with substitutions. Small Group Work Practice making substitutions. Call several pairs of students to demonstrate the new dialogue. Discuss the general idea or theme of the dialogue. Break into small groups and have them write a totally new dialogue using the same idea/theme. 6. Have a few groups perform their new dialogue. 7. Teach the remaining dialogue the same way, if time allows in the first hour.
3 Session Two: 1. Teach the song "Egg Hunt" (to the tune of "Clementine") Review the following vocabulary words: Easter, Easter eggs, Easter basket, candy eggs, jellybeans pine, bend, scramble, reach, climb, hidden, treat, glow, glisten, shine, dine Say each line slowly, having the students repeat after you in unison. Repeat increasing the speed, as they are able. Sing the song for them. Have them sing it with you at a slow pace. Make sure they are pronouncing each word correctly. Sing it again increasing the speed. 2. Tell about the true meaning of Easter. You can read a simple book that tells the story. 3. Teach dialogue #3 or #4 Read the dialogue two times aloud; each time give the students something to listen for. Next the teacher reads a line the student repeats the line. The teacher then reads one part and the students read the other part. Next the teacher and students switch parts. 4 Session Three: 1. If you did not finish the dialogues in session two take the time to finish before moving on. 2. Easter Egg Hunt When we go outside, we will all start together as a class. When the whistle blows, you may find one egg at a time. Bring back only one egg and then you must tell your teacher, a sentence about the Easter egg. Remember students can pick up only one egg at a time, bring it back in, speak to the teacher, before returning to hunt. When all the eggs have been found, come back to the classroom. Students can open the eggs and see the goodies inside. 3. Teach the Jazz Chant "Easter Bunny" Model the entire chant, using the rhythmic beat. Say each line slowly, having the students repeat after you in unison. Say each line faster, having the students repeat increasing their speed. Divide into sections. Have the groups alternated in saying the lines. Practice the chant in the individual groups. (This will be noisy but is effective) 4. Play Bingo using Easter vocabulary. Tip: use "Smarties" candy as markers for the bingo boards 5. Teach the Dance "The Bunny Hop"

Fill the basket, fill the basket, fill the basket every time Candy eggs and jelly beans are tucked behind each growing pine. Bend and scramble, bend and scramble, bend and scramble, reach and climb. Find each hidden Easter treat now, pick them up and they'll be mine. See them glow and see them glisten, see them glow and see them shine. Join me with my Easter candy and together we will dine. Jazz Chant: Easter Bunny Easter Bunny soft and white Hopping quickly out of sight. Thank you for the eggs you bring At Easter time to welcome spring. Yellow eggs and blue and red In the grass and flower bed. We will hunt them everywhere. Is it you who put them there?

B: If you find the most eggs you will get a prize. A: Okay, I will try to find many pretty colored eggs. Dialogue #2 A: I need to buy a pretty Easter basket. B: Why do you need an Easter basket? A: Because when the Easter Bunny come she will fill my basket with candy. B: Oh, I need a basket too because I want some candy. A: What is your favorite kind of Easter candy? B: I love jelly beans and chocolate rabbits. Dialogue #3 A: They crucified Jesus on the cross even though He never did anything wrong. B: Why did Jesus die if he never did anything wrong? A: He died to pay the price for all we have done wrong. B: Even though he was perfect and never did anything wrong? A: Yes, He died so that we can be with Him forever. B: He truly was the Son of God. Dialogue #4 A: Mary went to the tomb to see Jesus' body on Easter Sunday. B: Did she see Him? A: No, an angel told her He was not there because He had risen from the dead. B: Really, He died and the rose again? A: Yes, he paid the price for our wrong doings and then He became alive again. B: He could do that because He was perfect. He was God.
