2 April 29, 1976 "A reciprocal agreement with the American Orff-Schulwerk Association and Music For Children -Carl Orff Canada allows members of both organizations to attend each other's conferences at reduced registration fees." This is included in the Membership By-Laws of Music For Children. January 26, 1984 We have received an invitation to collaborate with the American Orff-Schulwerk Association at their 1988 conference. A lengthy discussion followed on whether a joint conference would be desirable. The consensus of opinion was that we should not have a joint conference, but rather have a national conference of our own out west that year. May 8, 1986 Back issues of the ORFF ECHO can be purchased by "Music For Children - Carl Orff Canada" members at a cost of $2.00 each. May 13, 1989 The AOSA National Conference will be held in Atlanta, Georgia in November THAT Carolyn McMillan represent Music For Children, Carl Orff Canada, Musique Pour Enfants at the AOSA National Conference in Atlanta, Georgia in November Her travel and accommodation costs will be paid for by Carl Orff Canada. (Phyllis Ilavsky, Mary Robinson Ramsay) March 29, 1990 Atlanta, Georgia Conference 1989 report. Carolyn McMillan thanked the Executive for giving her the opportunity to represent CARL ORFF CANADA at the AOSA Conference. Recommendation: That future Conference Committees invite local superintendents, trustees and administrators to the National Biennial Conference and provide them with complimentary conference registration and also introduce them at the opening ceremonies. Carolyn McMillan will share this idea with members of the British Columbia 1992 Committee. ACTION: Carolyn McMillan May 12, 1991 The A.O.S.A. National Conference will be held in San Diego, California, in November, 1991 THAT we pay the 1991 A.O.S.A. National Conference registration for Judy Sills as the official representative of Carl Orff Canada if a complimentary registration is not provided. (Phyllis Ilavsky, Joan Sumberland) IIIL5b Advocacy: Communication AOSA Page 2
3 April 5, 1992 Judy Sills will represent Music for Children - Carl Orff Canada - Musique pour enfants at the AOSA conference in Minneapolis in November, April 25-27, 1997 THAT a complimentary Ordinary Corporate Membership be extended to AOSA. (Berarducci/Walker) May 7-10, 1998 The Membership Secretary shall include the First VP of the AOSA for mailings. April, 2004 The members of this committee are Leslie Bricker, COC; Carolyn Tower, AOSA; Donna Fleetwood, AOSA. The committee met at the AOSA conference in Louisville. They will meet again at the Calgary conference. The purpose of the committee is to share information and exchange ideas. November, 2008 (Teleconference Meeting) Joan attended the North American Alliance Committee in Charlotte, NC in November during the AOSA conference. She thanked the COC executive for sending her to the AOSA conference and the NAAC meetings. MOVED THAT the NAAC (North American Allicance Committee) be comprised of the immediate past presidents of COC and AOSA, the presidents of COC and AOSA, the 1 st vice-president of COC and the vice-president of AOSA. The two past presidents shall be co-chairs. (Debra Giebelhaus-Maloney/Cathy Bayley) MOVED THAT the NAAC meet at each AOSA and COC national conference. (Debra Giebelhaus- Maloney/Catherine West) MOVED THAT COC pay for the transportation and hotel costs for the past president to attend the NAAC meetings that are held at AOSA conferences. (Debra Giebelhaus-Maloney/Denise Lapointe) President conference registration fee at AOSA is waived. Action: Reciprocal waiver of conference registration fees for Past Presidents needs to be clarified with AOSA. MOVED THAT Music for Children-Carl Orff Canada provide funding for the travel and hotel expenses of Leslie Bricker as Co-Chair of NAAC, to attend the meetings held at AOSA in Charlotte, North Carolina; November 12-15, Funds to be taken from the Special Projects account. (Debra Giebelhaus-Maloney/Joanne Linden) April 24-26, 2009 (National Executive Meeting) It was clarified that the VP s are part of the NAAC committee and that they attend NAAC meetings if they are attending an AOSA conference, but that COC doesn t pay for their costs. MOVED THAT Carl Orff Canada honour Carolyn Tower by sending a wired bouquet of flower in recognition of her work for AOSA. (Debra Giebelhaus-Maloney/Eileen Stannard) IIIL5b Advocacy: Communication AOSA Page 3
4 Joan will send a letter of congratulations for the AOSA s 40 th Anniversary to the president of AOSA, with a cover letter to her to suggest having this letter in the commemorative issue of Echo. COC has committed (November 2009 teleconference Carl Orff Canada National Executive Meeting) to supporting the Past President as Co Chair of the NAAC financially for all AOSA and COC conferences during their term of office. Housing is already covered for the current president and the expectation will be for the current and past president to share housing at each of these conferences. The Executive Committee of AOSA presented the new committee design to the National Board of Trustees in March A motion to budget the transportation cost for the past president to attend the COC conference was presented and passed. Housing is already covered as a line item for the current president and the expectation will be for the current and past president to share housing provided by AOSA. The new committee design will require that committee co-chairs receive complimentary registration at both COC and AOSA conferences. The exchange of the ORFF ECHO/REVERBERATIONS and the OSTINATO is very important for the NAA Committee to develop an awareness and understanding of both the AOSA and COC. The co-chairs of the NAA be responsible for ensuring that these journals are forwarded to the appropriate organization personnel as determined in future dialogue. November 29, 2009 (Teleconference Meeting) It was noted that Joan and Debra attended the NAA committee meeting at the AOSA conference in Milwaukee in November Joan expressed appreciation to Carl Orff Canada for sending her to this conference. Joan Linklater (current COC president) reported that In April 2009: -she sent congratulations to AOSA president, Jo Ella Hug on their 40 th anniversary. -she sent a thank you note to Carolyn Towers in recognition of the work she has done for AOSA and NAAC In August she received inivitation to November 09 AOSA conference in Cincinnati -sent greeting and thanks to outgoing AOSA president Jo Ella Hug -sent greetings to incoming AOSA president Julie Scott and responded to her inivitation to attend Nov 09 AOSA conference in Milwaukee. In November 2009: -she attended AOSA conference in Milwaukee. November 12-14, 2009, and marched with COC banner in parade at the opening ceremonies. -brought greeting from COC to the AOSA general business meeting. November 27, 2011 (Skype) Action: At the next NAAC meeting, address the issue of the reciprocity agreement between Ostinato and Echo. Excerpt from Editor s report: Reciprocal Ad Arrangement with Orff Echo: Once again the Echo editor has reacted with surprise on being asked to reinstate free reciprocal conference ads, but the editor is prepared to print our RePlay! ad in the next issue. It is always a challenge to track down the copy for the next AOSA conference. The Echo does not ever come looking for the COC conference ad in return IIIL5b Advocacy: Communication AOSA Page 4
5 we have to make the request each time. Probably the difficulty arises because each issue of the Echo has a different editor. Perhaps this is something the NAAC could address. April 18-19, 2012 At the NAAC meeting via Skype on December 27, 2011: there was a discussion of the publication reciprocity: AOSA and COC may place conference ads in each other s journals free of charge. Joan suggested News from COC or News from AOSA to the organizations. Karen suggested News columns from each organization on the other organization s Web site. Joan said that the news could be somewhat of a reproduction of the President s Column. Joan and Karen will send president s columns to each other to post on the respective organizations Web sites. November 25, 2013 Teleconference North American Alliance Committee: Cathy Bayley and Beryl Peters attended The AOSA numbers are decreasing by 8-9% a year. They are finding ways to reach out to more people and maintain and increase their membership. They plan to change their name to Orff United. They have hired a marketing firm and are designing a new web-site. They had a lot of opposition at the conference to this change. For now the name change won t go ahead due to the opposition. Thank you to COC for sending both Beryl and Cathy. It was helpful having both of them there and they could discuss together. Beryl and Cathy feel that we need to maintain these ties and communication between the two organizations. March 1, 2015 Go-to-meeting COC Board access to AOSA members only section. Reciprocal agreement. All COC Board now has access to the AOSA members only section. Please log on to check it out. President messages from both Boards will be posted on the respective websites.
