SECTION A: Basic skills ( 32 marks) Continue the following opening to make 16 bar melody for voice, introducing a sequence and a duplet- Modulate to the relative minor before returning to the tonic. 6 5. PRESCRIBED TRADITIONAL AFRICAN MUSIC (10 mks) a) Identify any two comparisons between the introductory and final sections of performance. (2 mks) i) In both sections the Nyatiti Instrument starts the performance ii) In both sections there are talkings by the performe. iii) In both the Nyatiti and gara ( Jingles / Ankle bells) Instruments perform b) Identify four roles of the Nyatiti instrument in the performance. (4mks) i) It marks the start of the performance ( prelude) ii) Sets the pitch for the singer iii) Serves as a response to the singer iv) The Nyatiti short Ositionato is used to round off the singer s phrases in the second / middle section of performance. v) It motivates the performer. vi) Enriches the performance / makes music more sonorous c) Name four singing styles used by the performer in the performance. (4mks) - Solo Singing Only one singer performs - Reputation The voice in the middle section performs by imitating the Nyatiti Ositination. - Call and Response - The voice calls, while the Nyatiti seems to provide a response. - Overlapping - The voice in the middle section overlaps the Nyatiti Osilination. - Chanting The voice in the final section is in speech like singings, demonstrating the dirge like mood in the section. 6. WESTERN PRESCRIBED SET WORK (10mks) a) Using bar numbers, Identity and explain four compositional styles/ devices used in the set score. (4mks) i) Unison is in bar / between aboe and the violins. ii) Antiphon Is a question and answer like responsible form of performance e.g in bar 3-6.
