November 12, 2014 Bibliographic Services Dena Porter-Marion Carnegie Library (MRNP):Donna Halleran is here with me, we are sharing a computer. Joan Bauer:Hello all - Jennifer Nelson, IASB:will there be sound today? Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:No Sound - just chat Cheri Schuler-Faust, Cataloger Edwardsville:No Jennifer Jennifer Nelson, IASB:thanks Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:We can start early - any cataloging questions? Gwen Bumpers--Edwardsville Public Library:Is there a docment for Merging Bibliographic Records in IHLS s SHARE coming soon? Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:There is one on the SHARE Website - cataloging-training--manuals. Cheri Schuler-Faust, Cataloger Edwardsville:It is on the SHARE website under Cataloging- >Training sessions->october 2014 Gwen Bumpers--Edwardsville Public Library:Okay thanks. Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:And then Cheri's is general - the other one is the original 15 page document that explains all the if, ands and buts. Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:Does anyone use the label manager to print labels? If so, how is it working for you? Jennifer Merriman--ISCS:I use the label manager, and I don't really like it

Jennifer Merriman--ISCS:Even though I have a template with the *exact* measurements of my labels, they never print correctly. If I have more than 5ish characters in a line, it screw up the alignment of the entire row Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:Oh, that's not good Brittany Maine - BELP:We tried using the label manager at Belleville when we first started using Polaris and it didn't suit our workflow very well. Sandy West - Rend Lake College:Just got our ILDS bag and there was an aduiobbook with 5 other items and the poor aduiobook did not make it. Please be careful when packing delivery bags. Jennifer Merriman--ISCS:And this is not reflected in the online template. So I never know if the labels are going to align correctly until I try printing. Sometimes I'll go through 2+ sheets Angela Garrett, Flora PL:We were going to try it but it is not compiling labels like it used to when we first went up on Polaris. I remember having to go in and delete them once in a while, so I know that Polaris used to do them. Is there something that we have to do to start it again? donna.maguire vz32:yes, It works well for us at Morrison-Talbott library, with minor adjustment for spacing. It took us a while to figure out the configuration, though, at the beginning Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:Angela - just let me know. We shut off the automatic for the libraries that asked. Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:Or I should say, those with the 500 label error. Angela Garrett, Flora PL:I don't remember asking; but I think ours have been shut off. Could they be turned on again to see if we like it? Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:Yes Gayla Ring:After reviewing "When to Input a New Record" in OCLC Support & Training, I am still not positive about when I can attach a paperback to a hardback. Could you give me some general guidelines? Cheri Schuler-Faust, Cataloger Edwardsville:generally if the page difference is less than 5 pages and the cm. is 2 or less. Gayla Ring:Thank you

Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:Angela - I have turned the automatically generate label back on for your library. Angela Garrett, Flora PL:Thank you. Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:Jennifer - could the issue be the font size? Jennifer Merriman--ISCS:It could be, but I'm not seeing where to change it. Audrey VanVoorhis Helen Matthes Library:I have received several new books in our Youth Services orders that have Paw Prints ISBN numbers. The books match other records in every way except for the ISBN. I have been adding the Paw Prints ISBN numbers to matching records in Polaris. Am I doing the right thing? Shawn- Elwood Township:I just found the label maker. Wondeful! Is there a document on how to work it? Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:ONce in label manager, click on Tools -- Label settings and content. Once there -- choose which label, then choose which box. Right click and open to edit. Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD:I would be nice to use the label maker--we are hoping to start using it, so any how-to info would be helpful. Cheri Schuler-Faust, Cataloger Edwardsville:Audrey - yes that is fine to do as Paw Prints is similar to FollettBound. Shawn- Elwood Township:Thank you Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:Shawn - Yes - I'll send you a copy. Shawn- Elwood Township:Okay, Thank you Joan. I just went under tools, content, settings and was lost :D Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:Shawn - to find it, it is under Utilities -- Label Manager. I have sent you the document Anita Public:I don't ususally use the label manager since we don't barcode 30 Plus items at a time but I have been considering it. I have noticed in the last week or so, that when we complete a new item record, the label template pops up with the label ready to print. It is always in the top left corner and never moves nor do we see additional items on the labels. I am hesitant about printing one label at a time. If I do that, will the new label move over to the next spot?

Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:No - you have to manually adjust, I believe Anita. Jennifer Merriman--ISCS:You have to manually adjust it *if* you delete the previously used barcodes *and* save that change Anita Public:It never shows more that one label ready to print. Is that how it should work? Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:Anita - I believe once you get into label manager, it will print all that are waiting to print. There is a spot under Cataloging--OPTIONS (bottom of the drop down list), where you can set Batch or Single. I have mine at Batch. Yvonne Williams WSPP:That is good to know. Thanks Joan. Cheri Schuler-Faust, Cataloger Edwardsville:Jennifer Merriman I foound how to change font in your labels. with the sheet of labels showing right click on a label and choose font. Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:Cheri - gonna put you on the spot. Could you please explain if you should make a new bib if : book with accompany bonus CD, CD is not audiobook and does not add to the book value (meaning book can stand alone but CD really is worthless without book. Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:Many may just have book, few have book with CD. Does this provide enougth info? Cheri Schuler-Faust, Cataloger Edwardsville:from bib formats: Input separate records to represent a resource issued without accompanying material and the same resource issued with substantive accompanying material. So yes your should make a new record if you have added material. April Jensen Lincoln Public Library:Once in a great while we may need to edit a record or add pagination to a record. If someone makes a mistake, are you going to let us know so we can correct it? April Jensen Lincoln Public Library:for the record, we don't make the mistakes. :) Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:Well, if I can determine who actually made the mistake, yes, I do privately discuss it with that person. But otherwise we fix and move on. April Jensen Lincoln Public Library:ok. thank you. Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:Any other questions?

Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD:I know staff are recording our number of cataloging training hours--is it listed in L2 or somewhere so that we can see how we're progressing? Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:Linda Kates keeps an internal excel spreadsheet. L2 doesn't record everything. If you have any questions as to how many hours, send Linda an . Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD:Thanks! Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:Remember, it is 15 hours from July to June. We will send out a progress report in January. Esther Curry--C.E. Brehm Memorial PLD:Oh, that's good to know. Thanks! Yvonne Williams WSPP:That is a good idea. Thanks! Janet Maurer West Sangamon:It will be good to get a progress report midway so we can see if the hours we think we have agree with what is recorded. That should be helpful. Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:Lots of ways to earn hours -- online training - check out YouTube, OCLC has webinars, reading from LC website, Cataloger's training sessions - other training. IF you have doubt, ask and we'll let you know if it fits. April Jensen Lincoln Public Library:What we need to fill out for credit is online at the SHARE website correct? Cheri Schuler-Faust, Cataloger Edwardsville:yes under the cataloging tab Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:Correct - under Cataloging --FORMS Jennifer Nelson, IASB:but being here today is automatically recorded right? we don't have to submit for this? Cheri Schuler-Faust, Cataloger Edwardsville:that's correct Yvonne Williams WSPP:But we don't have to fill them out for things like today that we preregistered for, is that correct? Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:Yvonne- that's correct. Yvonne Williams WSPP:Sorry didn't see the answer to the same questions as I was typing Cheri Schuler-Faust, Cataloger Edwardsville:There are just a few minutes left. Any other questions?

Janet Maurer West Sangamon:YouTube, really? Cheri Schuler-Faust, Cataloger Edwardsville:Janet you can find some wonderful cataloging videos on youtube Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:And you thought I was crazy! Cheri Schuler-Faust, Cataloger Edwardsville:there's a lot about RDA April Jensen Lincoln Public Library:I like the idea of just reading the LC website. Janet Maurer West Sangamon:I would certainly never have thought of that and no Joan I know you are NOT crazy, distracted sometimes but not crazy! Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:LC has lots of RDA info too. Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:Definitely distracted - don't I have a sign for that? Janet Maurer West Sangamon:I bellieve you have the same one I do... Cheri Schuler-Faust, Cataloger Edwardsville:It seems that this hour of Chat has flown by. We will have another cataloging chat in December hosted by Edie Elliott and Shelley Stone. April Jensen Lincoln Public Library:thanks Joan! Yvonne Williams WSPP:Thanks for your time today. See you next month. Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:Chat is December 17 i9nstead of 10. Had to change Shawn- Elwood Township:thank you Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:December 10 will be Circulation with Sue Pearson. Joan Bauer, SHARE Bibliographic Services Manager:You all have a great day - stay warm! Audrey VanVoorhis Helen Matthes Library:Thanks!
