Manuscripts not exceeding 15,000 words (45 pages) are invited. PREPARATION OF MANUSCRIPTS Send manuscripts in duplicate to Robert U. Massey, M.D., Editor, History of Medicine, Division of Humanistic Studies in Medicine, Department of Community Medicine, University of Connecticut School of Medicine, Farmington, Connecticut They should be typewritten in double space throughout on paper 8^x11 inches in size. Do not justify the right margin. Type quoted material of sixty words or more double space, each line indented five characters, and without quotation marks. Run shorter quotations into the text using double quotes. Cormnas and periods always appear within end quotes. Write dates as 1 January 1975 without punctuation; years are written , except for dates B.C. which must be given in full for clarity. Use 1860s, not 1860's. Spell out numerals below 100; if several numerals appear in a paragraph referring to the same category, with some above 100 and some below, figures should be used for all. Write "percent" as "%" and preceded by arabic numerals, except when it begins a sentence. Type footnotes double space on pages following the end of the text. Use consecutive superior numbers placed after the mark of punctuation for footnote references; in the notes themselves type the numbers on the line in indented paragraph form. The first footnote, unnumbered, should include any acknowledgments and disclaimers. Abbreviate journal names in the style used by the National Library of Medicine as listed in each January issue of Index Medicus. A second citation of the same source, if immediately following, is Ibid.; if other footnotes intervene, use the author's last name, (note no.) and for books only, short title, and page number. For classical citations, give all bibliographic data at first citation; for all subsequent citations, give author (note number) and short title. Authors are solely responsible for the accuracy of citations. Follow the examples for citations: 1. J. S.
