2 Welcome to the 29th Tokyo International Film Festival Dear Friends, Thank you for joining this year s Tokyo International Film Festival and TIFFCOM2016. We hope you ll explore our lineup of excellent films from around the world in eight main sections and special focuses, and that you ll convey the excitement of the cinema to the world. Competition: The highlight of the film festival, this section features 16 exceptional films from around the world that were completed after January Special Screenings: This section features high-profile films, both domestic and international, that have not been released in Japan, and screens Japanese premieres. Asian Future:This section showcases films by young filmmakers who have directed up to three features, with outstanding works from the Asian region, including Japan and the Middle East. Japanese Cinema Splash: This section helps expand the international profile of independent Japanese films, showcasing unique, creative and challenging films from around the country. World Focus: This section features internationally acclaimed films by noted directors that have recently been completed but not released in Japan. Japan Now: Created to showcase outstanding Japanese films from recent and upcoming months, Japan Now displays the diversity of Japanese film, and unique facets of Japanese culture. This year s Director in Focus is Shunji Iwai. Japan Classics: Featuring digitally restored Japanese classics, this section provides an opportunity to revisit the many masterpieces of Japanese film. Youth: Bringing high-profile, energetic films from around the world, this new section can be enjoyed by young and old(er) alike, and provide inspiration for teens. Animation Focus: The World of Mamoru Hosoda: This year s anime master is Mamoru Hosoda, and we are screening the first full retrospective of his career. Asian Three-Fold Mirror 2016: Reflections: The first of the omnibus film series directed by three prominent Asian directors, co-produced by TIFF and the Japan Foundation Asia Center, this will have its world premiere on October 26. 2

Please keep the pass in the holder to be visible at the festival venues at all time including at the time of P&I screening and interviews. P&I Screening Venues TOHO Cinemas Roppongi Hills *Online Advance Reservations required EX Theater Roppongi, Cinema Mediage (Odaiba) *No reservations required Online Advance Reservations for TOHO CINEMAS ROPPONGI HILLS Reservations are accepted on the website starting 9 pm (Japan Time) 4 days before the day of each screening. You may reserve a screening until 60 minutes prior to each screening starts, unless reservations are already full. Even if a screening is fully booked, empty seats may be available due to cancelations and/or no-shows. Please check the website for availability, or join a waiting line outside the screen for your desired film. 12 Interview Coordination There will be opportunities for one-on-one interviews with guests (filmmakers and actors) during the course of TIFF. 1. The one-on-one Guest Interview Request Form is available at the Press Center. 2. 15 Media Access Regulations Important Notices at the Festival Venues There are facilities and places that are off-limits to the press at the festival venues in Roppongi and at the Kabukiza Theatre. Please follow the instructions of festival and venue staff. Roppongi Academy Hills (Roppongi Hills Mori Tower 49F) 1. Library Café in Roppongi Academy Hills (Roppongi Hills Mori Tower 49F) is for exclusive use by Academy Hills Library members. TIFF press members are NOT ALLOWED to enter the library café. 2. The couches, chairs and books in the corridor of the 49th floor are for exclusive use by Academy Hills Library members. 3. The lobby is rented temporarily for TIFF events in the Tower Hall on the 49th floor. Please do not sit on the floor even if you need to wait for a long time. 4. No food or drink is permitted in the reception lobby on the 49th floor. 5. Please refrain from conversing loudly in the corridor for the benefit of non-festival users. 6. Interviews are not permitted in undesignated areas. 7. Entry to the Festival Office is permitted only by staff pass holders. 8. If we receive complaints from the venue manager, we may have to cancel your press pass even during the festival. Roppongi Hills To shoot within the Roppongi Hills premises, please make sure to wear your press pass or you may be stopped by TIFF or Roppongi Hills staff and security personnel. Please strictly adhere to the following Media Access Rules, and make sure not to interfere with or block general visitors. Please help us avoid accidents. 1. Photographing/filming are prohibited in office areas (entrance, elevator halls, inside elevators). 2. Photographing/filming are prohibited within the following facilities: commercial facilities (shops), Mori Art Museum, Tokyo City View, Roppongi Academy Hills, Roppongi Hills Club, Grand Hyatt Tokyo and TV Asahi. 3. As a general rule, photographing/filming inside TOHO Cinemas Roppongi Hills is prohibited. You must obtain prior permission from the TIFF Press Office and be accompanied by a member of the TIFF staff while you are photographing/filming. 4. Photographing/filming of commercial facilities are allowed only under the condition that the picture is of the whole area situating Roppongi Hills as a town. Shooting of the façade of each shop or in a way that focuses and clearly identifies a particular shop(s) is prohibited. 5. Person-on-the-street interviews, conducting surveys and questionnaires, giveaway promotions (handing out product samples or giveaways) and any conduct of such a nature are prohibited in principle. 6. Please follow the instructions of TIFF or Roppongi Hills staff and security personnel at all times when you are photographing/filming within Roppongi Hills. 7. Please contact us immediately if any trouble has occurred during shooting. It should be noted that, with regard to problems that occurred on your side, TIFF and Roppongi Hills cannot be held responsible. 15
