2 Term Two: COURSE OUTLINES & TUTORS SCREEN ACTING This module develops the skills required to act to camera. Learners will be introduced to the particular requirements of performing in a film and television context and the skill requirements for performing to camera. Scenes from international television and film scripts will be used in rehearsal. Learners will be familiarised with basic production techniques and health and safety aspects. Learners will be encouraged to read, view and listen to a broad range of texts, screenplays and television and film performances for analysis of genre, approaches to acting and audience demands. Sia Trokenheim Sia needs no introduction. Known and loved on New Zealand screens as Cara in the smash TV series Step Dave, Sia brings her experience and passion for acting to The Green Room. Sia received the Rialto NZ Best Actress Award in 2014 for her leading role in the film Everything We Loved. Sia studied at Unitec and originally hails from Sweden. She has starred in multiple TV, film and theatre roles including six productions with the Auckland Theatre Company, The Dark Horse, Everything We Loved and Sione's 2, among many. Sia is also a mum of (nearly two) kids, a step mum to another gorgeous boy, and has a couple of extra special talents up her sleeve in fire-breathing and freestyle bar-spinning (think the movie Cocktail). We wonder whether those last two are a good mix! DEVISING - PHYSICAL THEATRE: Who should attend? Anyone 13+ Devised physical theatre is an opportunity to explore ways to tell stories without text. It will be light and playful and there s no right or wrong. Join us for this incredibly inspiring workshop. Alison Bruce Alison is an award winning performer, having worked in television, film and theatre for over 30 years. She has been involved in creating image based theatre since the early 90 s - initially with Theatre and Large - and since 2008 has worked frequently with the acclaimed theatre company Red Leap (The Arrival, Paper Sky, Dust Pilgrim). Alison s screen credits include Top of the Lake, The Almighty Johnsons, and The World s Fastest Indian. THE ACTOR S VOICE: Who should attend? A good set is a perfect servant to the actors and the play. It gives an audience their first taste of the play, before any actor sets foot on stage or speaks a word. It intrigues, excites, sets the mood, and above all keeps out of the actors way. It helps us create the magic of the theatre. In our workshop we will find the best process for creating good set design for plays and theatres of any size and budget. We ll review some of the traps to avoid and how to avoid them. We ll also demonstrate some basic techniques for creating odd props, and make a fish Malcolm Dale Malcolm has been involved with local theatre for well over 20 years, both as an actor and as a set designer and builder. He has been involved in creating the sets for a wide range of productions, including the Threepenny Opera, Terra Nova, Abelard & Heloise and Fawlty Towers at Titirangi Theatre.
