Davies, Dean The College of Public and Environmental Service serves two major functions: the provision of a liberal education and specialized training for future careers in those areas authorized by the Board of Regents. In providing a liberal education the College seeks to equip the student for a life-time of learning and personal development with the skills of critical thinking and analysis, to help him or her develop a personal moral code necessary for responsible citizenship,and to provide him or her with an understanding of the society into which he or she will be graduated. The College also seeks to provide the best possible career preparation in the professional areas for which it is responsible. This is reflected in its facilities, its faculty, and its curriculum. ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCE The program in Allied Health Science is designed on an interdisciplinary basis to provide the student with a broad perspective of the health field so that he or she can analyze public health problems, organize health care and delivery systems in the public and private sectors, administer and coordinate diagnostic and supervisory health service activities. Students who enter the program with an associate degree or its equivalent m a health related program should consult with the academic advisor with respect to requirements that may already have been met. 42 semester hours of liberal studies and a minor or approved electives to complete 125 semester hours are required to complete the degree.

2 THE CURRICULA 131 The Anthropology Department seeks to provide the potential anthropologist with an integrated knowledge of the basic data, methods, and theory of physical anthropology, archaeology, enthnography, ethnology, and linguistics; to provide all students with a general intellectual cultural background against which to evaluate and interpret the behavior, institutions, and biological makeup of mankind in past and present societies around the world, as well as to show the relationship between anthropology and the sister disciplines and anthropology's place within the general Western European intellectual tradition; to provide students in disciplines closely related to anthropology as well as prospective public school social science teachers with some of the basic perspectives of general anthropology. Bachelor of Arts The major requires 35 hours of anthropology. These must include ANT 220,221,250, 260, 270, 271, 351, 361, with the remaining nine hours of electives selected with the approval of the advisor. Forty-two hours of liberal studies, a minor of 18 hours, MAT270 Applied Statistics, and a two-year college level language proficiency are required, with electives to complete a minimum of 125 semester hours. Bachelor of Science The major requires 35 hours of anthropology, 42 hours of liberal studies, 18 hours in an approved minor, MAT 270, and 30 hours of approved electives to complete the degree. Students who enter the Bachelor of Science program may choose one of the four options or emphases listed below: Ethnology: A student selecting an emphasis in ethnology must take ANT 220,221,250 or 351, 361, 270 or 271. Another 16 hours of electives within the department must be chosen in consultation with the major advisor. Archaeology: A student choosing an emphasis in archaeology must take ANT 220 or 221, 250, 260,270 or 271, 351, 361, and the remaining 16 hours with the approval of the advisor. Physical Anthropology: A student selecting an emphasis in physical anthropology is required to take ANT 220 or 221, three courses (nine hours) from the following four courses: 250,260,270,271,351, and 361. The remaining 15 hours must be chosen within the department with the approval of the advisor. Linguistics: A studentchoosingan emphasis in linguisticsmusttake ANT220,221,250 or 351, 260, 270 or 271, 361 and 391:392. Another ten hours of electives within the department must be selected in consultation with the student's advisor. Minor in Anthropology The minor of 18 hours requires one course from any of the three following four sets: ANT 220 or ANT 221, ANT 250 or 351, ANT 260or ANT 361, ANT 270 or ANT 271. The remaining hours are to be selected within the Department of Anthropology with the approval of the minor advisor. DENTAL HYGIENE Faculty. K. Anderson, R. Arentz, J. McClure, S. Peterson, B. Price. D.Smith, P. Ratcliff. It is the objective of the Dental Hygiene Department to educate graduates who possess the high levels of professional skill and knowledge necessary for the performance of minimal periodontal therapy and maintenance together with disease control motivation in a preventive-oriented dental office. The flexibility of the curriculum will prepare graduates to pursue additional career opportunities as well.

Cross-cultural child rearing and education practices. ANT 475 EVOLUTIONARY ANTHROPOLOGY (3). Special topics in physical anthropology, including population genetics, population ecology, demography, quantitative methods, primatology, human paleontology, osteology, paleopathology, and other related topics. Anthropololgical methods,and principles applied to problems of cross-cultural communication and socio-cultural change; directed socio-cultural change, community development, medical anthropolgy, and other topics. Fee does not include rental of practice room which is automatically made at time of registration for lessons. Thefollowing fee schedule includes a locker as well as a room and/or piano: One hour daily per semester, $2.00; two hours daily. $4.00: three hours daily. $6.00. Special fee for non-majors and minors: $45.00 for one semester hour and $90.00 for two hours plus room rental fee. ABSENCE FROM PRIVATE LESSONS: Credit may be withheld for excessive unexcused absences. Refunds on incomplete terms of lessons will be figured at the percentage rate stated under fees and expenses.
