1 PUBLISHED BY THE DISTRICT 28 MUSIC PARENTS CLUB SUMMER 2009 Dear Music Parents, Musical Notes The President s Refrain It s amazing how quickly summer vacation passes by. Hopefully your summer was filled with beautiful music perhaps your child practiced their instrument a few times or maybe you took in a few concerts. I look forward to the start of another great year of music. For those parents just starting out in Beginning Band or Orchestra, your child is embarking on a beautiful musical journey which if you are lucky will last for many years. The Music Parents Club is comprised of parents of music students. Every music family is automatically a member of the Music Parents Club. We meet on the 2 nd Wednesday of the month at 11:45 am at Northbrook Junior High. Our meetings usually last an hour and are listed in the district calendar. Included in this newsletter is the parent volunteer form. It takes a lot of work for the MPC to run smoothly. Please consider volunteering a little of your time - even if you can only spare an hour. Every little bit helps plus you ll get the opportunity to meet other great music parents. Our Annual Fundraiser The Wreath & Coffee Sale, will begin in late September. This funds many wonderful enrichment programs offered to our student musicians. It benefits all age levels of the co-curricular music programs of band, choir & orchestra. Our first meeting is Wednesday, September 9 th at 11:45 am at Northbrook Junior High. We invite you to check out what MPC is all about. All are welcome we d love for you to join us. 2 PUBLISHED BY THE DISTRICT 28 MUSIC PARENTS CLUB SUMMER 2009 A Note from Ways & Means: Itʼs hard to think about our annual Wreath & Coffee sale this time of year, but we are busy planning for its success! We will offer our lush Wisconsin greenery, Deanʼs Beans organic coffee, cocoa and Seeʼs candies at the same prices as 2008, beginning the third week of September. Many hands make light work, so please consider helping out. We have daytime and evening opportunities from stuffing envelopes, distributing packets and bagging candy to unloading greenery and filling orders at the Chalet. Even if you are unsure of your fall schedule, fill out a volunteer form and we can call you when we need help. The proceeds from our sale benefit EVERY music student in our district through field trips, guest conductors, uniforms, tour lunches, refreshments... While we will still recognize our top sellers, our goal is to make it easier for all students to participate in the sale and contribute toward a special group incentive prize. Also back by popular demand will be our Wheel of Prizes. Enjoy all that summer has to offer and encourage your child to keep practicing! If you have any questions or comments, please donʼt hesitate to call. Michelle Hinca Help Wanted!
