2 The Room 217 Foundation The Room 217 Foundation is a not-forprofit corporation and registered Canadian charity dedicated to caring for the whole person with music. The mission of the Room 217 Foundation is to raise and steward funds to further the following objectives: Music Care Resources offering hope and comfort by producing therapeutic music products Music Care Education providing skills & training for integrating music into care Music Care Delivery getting resources to people who need them most Music Care Research supporting innovative research in music and care caring for the whole person with music

3 What is Music Care? Music care is an approach that believes all of us can use music for health and well-being in our own lives and in those we care for. Music care is about using music with intention, allowing the therapeutic principles of sound and musical effect inform us. Music care integrates sound, silence and music into life, paying close attention to how interpersonal connection and human contact is enhanced through musical associations. Music care aims to enhance well-being and quality of life for all people.

11 Additional Music Care Resources Music Care: Musical Approaches in Caring Communities A Practical Resource Guide Music Care: Musical Approaches in Caring Communities, A Practical Resource Guide outlines an approach which informs and trains caregivers, musicians and any other community music care stakeholder in the therapeutic use of music. It focuses on developing an intentional music care presence in your community, combining general principles of music care with practical and contextualized suggestions. Soothing Relaxation Journeys (Guided Imagery CD) Stress is a prevailing challenge in today's culture and is the product of a variety of causes and pressures. The majority of people experience stress. To prevent it from becoming a chronic issue, it is important to get stress under control. Soothing Relaxation Journeys has been created by music therapist Dr. Amy Clements Cortes to treat your mind and body to four 20 minute relaxation journeys which will help you manage stress. 12 New Resources Coming in 2015 Pathways Singing Program for Dementia Care Pathways is a singing program of twelve 30-minute video episodes with accompanying activities and online training. The Pathways Singing Program is an opportunity for people living with dementia to engage in safe social interaction. Pathways will help trigger memories, language and emotions and will catalyze new experiences. Pathways is ideal for long term care, hospitals, day programs, community groups, and family use in the care of people with dementia.

13 Music Care Education Programs Music Care Certificate Program Training Caregivers in the Therapeutic Certificate Program Use of Music The Music Care Certificate Program (MCCP) will prepare you to understand basic principles of music in care, and help you apply these principles in your own work. MCCP is complementary to other professional trainings, and can help inform your own scope of practice or caregiving experience. MCCP will help build confidence in incorporating musical strategies into regular care practice. There are three 12 hour training levels in MCCP. Upon completion of each level, you will be awarded a Certificate of Completion by the Room 217 Foundation, demonstrating your understanding of music care fundamental principles and their applications. You may use this certificate as proof of additional training, continuing education, or professional development in the area of music care. As music care principles become more widely recognized as an integrated component of health care, this training can serve as a standard for understanding these principles. 14 Music Care Webinars Training Caregivers in the Therapeutic Webinar Series Use of Music A value-added opportunity to learn from your workplace, home or in transit about the issues and themes around music care. Facilitated by experts in the field, Music Care webinars are offered monthly, excluding July and August. Each Webinar is 60 minutes including Q & A. A different topic will be presented each month covering a variety of music care themes and issues. Webinars are free but registration is required at

16 Music Care Conference The first of its kind, this one day national conference brings together a cross section of community members to provide both information and inspiration around music care. The Music Care Conference identifies and integrates common themes and issues using music across the care spectrum and highlights the social implications of music in care. Presenters are experts in their field either through academic training, clinical or life experience. Participants include allied healthcare providers, family and volunteer caregivers, care receivers, musicians, faith-based and community agencies, students and the community-at-large. 17 Music Care Delivery Programs to The Room to Room Program (R2R) is a donor-driven program reaching programs and facilities in the hospice palliative care community, one of the most vulnerable care sectors in Canada as well as one of the least funded. R2R extends delivery and accessibility of Room 217 s benefit-designed music resources to people who are dying and their loved ones and removes funding as a barrier.
