Learning Outcomes On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to: LO1 LO2 LO3 LO4 LO5 LO6 Identify and reproduce melodic, harmonic and textural elements in music of the 16th to the 19th centuries. Perform vocal and rhythmic pieces in two, three and four parts, developing memory. Identify the elements and recognise the functions of the harmonic vocabulary covered in the module. Demonstrate practical understanding in the the harmonisation of bass lines and melodies Develop a secure ability to place complex rhythms against a conducted metre. Develop a vocabulary of expressive gestures in conducting technique. 3 MUSC8021: Core Musicianship Skills 5 Module Content & Assessment Indicative Content Aural skills Sight-singing, aural perception of melodic, harmonic and textural features of music from the 16th to 19th century; Part-singing: development of fluency in the performance of polyphonic music of the 16th century; Memorisation; Harmonic and melodic dictation with focus on figured bass harmony; Improvisation and harmonisation at sight Conducting Technique Development of expressive variety: accent, pauses, co-ordination of rhythm and metre. Advanced harmony and analysis Introduction to the fundamentals of chromatic harmony as employed in the common practice style (up to and including secondary dominants and the dominant discord).
