3 BIOGRAPHIES MOVSES POGOSSIAN made his American debut performing the Tchaikovsky Concerto with the Boston Pops at Symphony Hall in 1990, about which Richard Dyer of the Boston Globe wrote: There is freedom in his playing, but also taste and discipline. It was a fiery, centered, and highly musical performance Movses Pogossian has since performed with orchestras such as the Brandenburger Symphoniker and the Halle Philharmonic in Germany, the Sudety Philharmonic in Poland, the Tucson Symphony, the El Paso Symphony, the Scandinavian Chamber Orchestra of New York, and the Toronto Sinfonia. His recent and upcoming performances include recitals in New York, Boston, Ann Arbor, and concerts in Korea, Japan, Germany, Armenia, and Cyprus. He is a Prizewinner of the 1986 Tchaikovsky International Competition, and the youngest-ever First Prize winner of the 1985 USSR National Violin Competition, previous winners of which included David Oistrakh and Gidon Kremer. An active chamber musician, Mr. Pogossian has performed with members of the Tokyo, Kronos, and Brentano string quartets, and with such artists as Kim Kashkashian, Jeremy Denk, Lynn Harrell, Ani and Ida Kavafian, and Rohan de Saram. He frequently collaborates with the Apple Hill Chamber Players, teaching annually at their summer music festival in New Hampshire. Movses Pogossian is the Artistic Director of the critically acclaimed Dilijan Chamber Music Series, which performs at Zipper Hall in downtown Los Angeles, and is currently in its ninth season ( dilijan.larkmusicalsociety.com). A committed propagate of new music, Movses Pogossian has premiered over 50 works, and works closely with composers such as G. Kurtág, T. Mansurian, A. R. Thomas, L. Segerstam, P. Chihara, V. Sharafyan, and A. Avanesov. His newly formed Duo with remarkable Japanese percussionist Kuniko Kato has commissioned several works for this unusual medium, successfully performed during the recent tour of Japan. In Los Angeles, Movses Pogossian frequently performs on Monday Evening Concerts, and is the recipient of the 2011 Forte Award from Jacaranda, given for outstanding contributions to the promotion of new music and modern music. In July of 2008, he made his debut at the Darmstadt Festival in Germany. His discography includes Blooming Sounds and "In Nomine", solo violin CDs of world premiere recordings of Kurtág, Mansurian, Avanesov, Felder, Segerstam and music by Prokofiev and Hindemith, both on Albany label, as well as 2009 release of G. Kurtag s Kafka Fragments for soprano and violin on Bridge label, which includes a unique video documentary on the work with the composer, and a DVD of an unedited live performance. In his review of the recording, Paul Griffiths writes: remarkable is Pogossian s contribution, which is always beautiful, across a great range of colors and gestures, and always seems on the edge of speaking or beyond. Upcoming releases include a Schoenberg/Webern DVD, recorded at Schoenberg s Brentwood home (with Kim Kashkashian, Rohan de Saram, and Judith Gordon), and Complete Works for Violin by Stefan Wolpe, both for Bridge Records. Since earning his advanced degrees from the Komitas Conservatory in Armenia and the Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Music in Moscow, Mr. Pogossian has held teaching positions at Duquesne, Bowling Green, Wayne State, and SUNY Buffalo Universities. His principal teachers were L. Zorian, V. Mokatsian, V. Klimov, and legendary Louis Krasner. Movses Pogossian is currently Professor of Violin at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music. He resides in Glendale, California with his wife, Los Angeles Philharmonic violinist Varty Manouelian, and their three children.

4 Multi-award winning violinist GUILLAUME SUTRE studied in Douai, France and entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris at age 14. He attended Indiana University at Bloomington and subsequently studied in Cologne with the Amadeus Quartet. In 1986, he founded the Trio Wanderer; ten years later he joined the Ysaye Quartet. Sutre s vast repertoire includes the completes string chamber works of Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann, Fauré and Ravel, and he regularly performs world premieres of works by contemporary composers. His collaborators have included his wife Kyunghee Kim-Sutre, Yo-Yo Ma, Jean-Claude Pennetier, Pascal Rogé, Leonidas Kavakos, Antonio Lysy, Movses Pogossian and he has appeared as soloist with numerous European orchestras. His recordings for Sony Classical, Decca, Harmonia Mundi, Naïve, Aeon, and Ysaÿe Records are internationally acclaimed. Among other illustrious educator positions, Sutre is currently Professor of Violin and director of string chamber music at The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, Los Angeles. Guillaume Sutre was named Chevalier of the Order of Arts and the Letters by the French government. In addition to performing chamber music, Guillaume Sutre has also appeared as soloist with the Orchestra of Montpellier, l'ensemble Orchestral de Paris, Sinfonia Varsovia, Berlin-Radio Orchestra, Göttingen Symphonic Orchestra, l'orchestre de Bretagne, l'orchestre d'auvergne, Franz Liszt Orchestra of Budapest, Orchestre Philharmonique de Liège and has perfomed with conductors Sir Yehudi Menuhin, Louis Langrée, Volker Schmidt-Gertenbach, Stefan Sanderling, David Robertson and Sheldon Morgenstern, among others. His recordings for Sony Classical, Decca, Harmonia Mundi, Naïve, Aeon, and Ysaÿe Records have received the highest distinctions in France and internationally. These recordings include the complete quartets and quintets of Gabriel Fauré with pianist Pascal Rogé, André Boucourechliev's string quartet, Haydn's Last Seven Words of Christ (with Michel Serres's unpublished texts) and Bruch's Double Concerto with the Orchestre de Bretagne. His live recording of the complete duets of Haydn and Mozart with violist Miguel da Silva has been hailed by critics as definitive. Mr. Sutre is also a passionate advocate of music of his time, and regularly performs world premieres of composers such as Michele Reverdy, Eric Tanguy, Thierry Escaich, Noam Sheriff and Paul Chihara. With his wife Kyung-Hee KIM, they keep exploring the untouched repertoire for violin and Harp, renewing with a tradition of more intimate concert given in the Salon de Musique at the time of the creative and merry atmosphere of the Belle époque. Guillaume Sutre began his studies in Douai, France; he entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris at age 14. As a student of Gérard Poulet and Jean-Claude Pennetier, he was awarded first prize in both violin and chamber music. After finishing his studies in France, he attended Indiana University at Bloomington to study with Josef Gingold, Franco Gulli, Menahem Pressler and Janos Starker. He subsequently studied in Cologne with the Amadeus Quartet. In addition to his performing activities, Mr. Sutre is passionately committed to transmitting his knowledge and sharing his concert experience with musicians of younger generations. Since 1995, he has served as professor of violin, specializing in the practice of the string quartet, at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris. As a visiting professor at the Academies of Villecroze, Nice, Flaine, Aldeburgh, Zeist Music Days, Eastern Music Festival, University of Southern California, and in Sao Paulo, Brazil, he has given master classes in both chamber music as well as solo violin. He currently serves as Professor of Violin and director of string chamber music at The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, Los Angeles. He serves on juries of prestigious competitions,

5 Long-Thibaud International Violin Competition in Paris, International String Quartet Competition in Bordeaux. In 1994, SACEM awarded him the prestigious George Enesco Prize. In 1999, he was named Chevalier of the Order of Arts and the Letters by the French government, he received in 2010 the Silver Medal of the City of Paris. Guillaume Sutre plays a 1738 Italian violin made by Gregorio Antoniazzi, and uses a bow made by François Lupot in Links : - and - Internationally acclaimed pianist WALTER PONCE has performed around the world as soloist with symphony orchestras, in solo recitals and in collaboration with many renowned artists. Of his appearance with the legendary Sir Georg Solti, the Chicago Tribune headlined "Pianist Shines with Chicago Symphony Orchestra -- Walter Ponce is Magical in his Chicago Symphony Debut." For many years he was under the management of the renowned Wilford Division of Columbia Artists Management (CAMI) in a roster that included pianists Martha Argerich, Alicia de Larrocha, and Maurizio Pollini. Ponce has been heard in concert halls of almost every major city of North and South America, in many countries of Europe, and in Morocco, Japan, Korea, and China (Shenzhen, Yichang, Changsha, Xiamen, and Beijing.) His last performance under the auspices of CAMI took place as soloist with the San Antonio Symphony conducted by Alan Gilbert, now Music Director of the New York Philharmonic. His European debut took place in London's Wigmore Hall followed by a remarkable New York City debut at the Metropolitan Museum of Art that prompted the New York Times to conclude "Each music season brings its quota of surprises, and Walter Ponce's recital might qualify as one of the current winter crop... It all added up to an impressive showing." Other New York City solo recitals include the Bosendorfer Artists Series, Town Hall, Hunter College, and Carnegie Hall's "Emerging Artist Series" about which Bernard Holland wrote in the New York Times "...a rendering of Schubert's mystical and mysterious B-flat Sonata... served as an admonishment to the wicked and an example for the virtuous. In his review of a solo recital at Alice Tully Hall, New York Magazine's renowned critic Peter G. Davis wrote Ponce's playing could hardly have shown more discipline, muscular control, or imaginative use of the piano's expressive resources. Better still is his ability to define and articulate each score with such balanced precision and unforced eloquence, creating a beautifully proportioned musical context that allows the composer to speak naturally and spontaneously in his own voice. Born in Bolivia, Walter Ponce's musical beginnings took place in the National Conservatory of Buenos Aires, Argentina, studying in that city's vibrant musical environment that produced so many outstanding pianists. It is also at this time that he first played for Alberto Ginastera, an association that continued in New York City, when Ponce studied with him his celebrated Piano Sonata. At 17 he came to the United States, one of the youngest ever to receive a grant from the Department of State s Fulbright program, which continued for an unprecedented four years. In New York he graduated from Mannes College with a Bachelor of Science degree and from the Juilliard School with Master and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees. His major teachers include Sasha Gorodnitzki, piano; Gustave Reese, musicology and doctoral dissertation mentor, Arthur Balsam and Felix Galimir, chamber music; Felix Salzer and Carl Schachter, theory and analysis; Luciano Berio and Roger Sessions, composition. He was one of three students chosen by Juilliard to play and study with Vladimir Horowitz (1967). At Marlboro he was coached by Rudolf Serkin in several chamber music works. He also had two private lessons with Claudio Arrau.

6 Professor Emeritus at the State University of New York. Presently Professor and Chair of Keyboard Studies at UCLA. In addition, he has taught at St. John's University in New York City, C. W. Post College, Bowdoin College, Colgate University, and the Aspen Music School and Festival. He has given innumerable master classes in colleges and universities throughout the North and South America, Europe, China, and Korea. Heralded by the Los Angeles Times as "...a shining example of podium authority and musical enlightenment," conductor and pianist NEAL STULBERG garners consistent international acclaim for performances of clarity, insight and conviction. In North America, Mr. Stulberg has led the Philadelphia Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Atlanta, Houston, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, National, New Jersey, New World, Pacific, Saint Louis, San Francisco, Utah and Vancouver symphonies, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, among others. He is a recipient of the Seaver/National Endowment for the Arts Conductors Award, America's most coveted conducting prize, and has served as assistant conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic under Carlo Maria Giulini and music director of the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Stulberg's European career was launched in September 1997 when he stepped in on short notice to conduct the Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra and Chorus in a program of Bartok and Kodaly. He was immediately re-engaged by that orchestra to conduct on the prestigious VARA series in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and has subsequently appeared in Holland with the Netherlands Radio Chamber Orchestra, North Holland Philharmonic, Gelders Orchestra, Netherlands Ballet Orchestra and Nieuw Sinfonietta Amsterdam. Engagements in Germany include the WDR Rundfunkorchester Köln and the orchestras of Augsburg, Bochum, Dortmund, Herford, Freiburg, Muenster, Nürnberg, Oldenburg and Rostock. In September 2000 he made his Scandinavian debut with the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, and subsequently led performances with the Athens State Orchestra, London Royal Ballet Sinfonia, Barcelona Liceu Orchestra and Norwegian National Opera Orchestra. A frequent guest conductor in Asia, Israel and Russia, Mr. Stulberg has appeared with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, Seoul Philharmonic, Korea Philharmonic (KBS), Taipei Symphony, Haifa Symphony Orchestra, Israel Sinfonietta, St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra and Moscow Chamber Orchestra, among others. In July 1999 he made his Australian debut, conducting the Queensland, Adelaide and West Australian symphonies and in November 2002 led debut performances with the Mexico City Philharmonic.Neal Stulberg is also an acclaimed pianist, appearing regularly as recitalist, chamber musician and with major orchestras and at international festivals as pianist/conductor. His performances of Mozart concertos conducted from the keyboard are uniformly praised for their buoyant virtuosity and interpretive vigor. In , he performed the complete Mozart sonatas for violin and piano with his UCLA violinist colleague, Guillaume Sutre, at UCLA's Schoenberg Hall and at the Grandes Heures de Saint Emilion festival in France. A native of Detroit, Mr. Stulberg is a graduate of Harvard College, the University of Michigan and the Juilliard School. He studied conducting with Franco Ferrara at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, piano with Leonard Shure, Theodore Lettvin, William Masselos and Mischa Kottler, and viola with Ara Zerounian. He currently serves as Professor and Director of Orchestral Studies at UCLA, and recently began a three-year tenure as Music Department Chair.
