C O M E N I U S P T H E E U R O P E N M G Z I N E Data Year 1, Number 1 Summary: Our project 1 Meet the five partners 2 Belgium 3-6 Germany 7-10 Italy-pulia Italy-Sicily Turkey The Novel The story of the birth of our European project, in Norway, 3rd-7th October 2007 O ctober 2007, a group of teachers and headteachers, coming from all over Europe, meet in Stavanger, Norway. The weather is really mild over there, unexpectedly. People there do not know each other, but after two days a kind of feeling grows among these countries: Belgium, Germany, Italy, ithuania and Turkey. They want to give a start to a new Comenius project. They talk a lot about the objectives and the contents of their project, and they decide to go on working online after their meeting there. So when they are back home, they meet very often online and they make a very nice work and send it to their National gency in each country. On ugust 2008 they got the answer: the project is confirmed, but not for ithuania. The whole group is very sad about it and they decide to inform their missing partner about the development of their work. Their first meeting will be in Brussels, From 3rd December to 8th December, but now as real partners. Puglia Sicily

9 rt essons in Germany Material for the rt lessons Task Hundertwasser For the art lessons we use the following material quite often. Because when we don t have this stuff we can t start! (-: Our basic material for the art lessons is: bristle brushes (in bigness 6-10), hair brushes (in bigness 4-8/10), watercolour, a drawing block, a cup (to do water in it), old magazines (to add under the picture), pencils, crayons Sometimes for handicraft work: Glue, cutter, ruler, pencil, crayons, paper. Sometimes we need other material if we make sculptures. For example: wax crayon, acrylic paint, wire, wallpaper baste and carton In class 6 we made this nice picture in the art lesson. Before we started drawing we had learned a lot about the artist Hundertwasser, his techniques and his artwork. If you fancy doing this picture yourself you need a drawing block and a piece which you cut out from a copy of a Hundertwasser picture. You must stick this piece on the paper. For drawing you need wax crayon. You must use these colours: Yellow, orange, green, red and blue, because these are typical for Hundertwasser. You may draw shapes like circles, modular circles or oval forms. You aren t allowed to draw corners. Hundertwasser didn't like sharp corners. Even in his buildings he avoided them. Every oval form has to be framed black. So the colours appear brighter. Then you can bring in little golden paper moulds. This Hundertwasser picture drew our class in class 6. Here is a picture Ina made. Works from our students from class 5-7 Hundertwasser was a famous painter who was born in Vienna. He died on 19th February But he didn t only draw pictures he constructed beautiful buildings and houses, too. Here is a picture and some buildings from Hundertwasser. They are really colourful and breathtaking. Even trees are growing out of his houses. This is part of his philosophy:

German rtists P a g e 1 0 Wassily Kandinsky ( th December 1944) was a Russian painter, and art theorist. He is regarded as the founder of abstract art. Born in Moscow, Kandinsky spent his childhood in Odessa he started painting studies (life-drawing, sketching and anatomy) at the age of 30. ike Marc he was also cofounder of "Der Blaue Reiter". In 1896 he settled in Munich and studied first in the private school and then at the cademy of Fine rts, Munich. He went back to Moscow in He returned to Germany in There he taught at the Bauhaus school of art and architecture from 1922 until the Nazis closed it in He then moved to France where he lived the rest of his life, and became a French citizen in He died at Neuilly-sur-Seine in Franz Marc Franz Moritz Wilhelm Marc was born on 8 th of February 1880 in Munich and died in the First World War on 4 th of March 1916 in a battle in Verdun in France. He was a German painter and with some other artists he founded the group "Der Blaue Reiter" which was really successful and is well known. The name means translated "the blue cavalier". They choose blue because the other artists loved this colour and "cavalier" due to the fact that they all adore horses. Franz Marc is one of the most important painters of the 20 th century. His influence on the German expressionism was really important. Die großen blauen Pferde (1911) (Big blue horses) are shown here. Wassily Kandinsky - Composition V (1911) - Oil on canvas - Private Collection Interpretation: When you look in the middle you see in the foreground three guards with red helmets and with lances in their hands. They wear long white coats. t the right, again in the foreground, you see two humans. They look to the left and they really lean backwards. eft, at the top, there s a drawing, very difficult to understand. You can see two short, bent and fat lines with a red point above it. That should be two knights on their horses and fight with swords. The big bent lines are supposed to be their horses. In the background are many colourful mountains and on them are buildings. t the left is a nice little rainbow and under it is the sun. Maybe there is also a river and on the left I can see boats and many paddles are held up in the air. So you can see that this is one of the first abstract paintings. Kandinsky actually drew objects but they are so simplified that the observer can only see lines and colour. Color and lines became even more important in his later arts of work. ike in the following picture: You can see 3 blue horses in this picture. They are on a grazing land. In the front you can see plants. In the back ground you can see high mountains in different colours. In his pictures Marc preferred animals. For him they are innocent and really pure more than even people. What is typical for the time of the expressionism is the colour. He took blue for the horses even though horses can't be blue. But with the help of the colours the artist tried to express their inner feelings. This was a project work of class 8

DNCE 11 In our school we learn different dance styles. For example we learn Hip Hop or Jazz gymnastics which is then performed at school events or school festivals. Step aerobic is another art of dance. Here you can see come pictures with different step combinations: -Step Side eg ift Tap Up Tap Down eg Curls Basic Step Single ead Corner To Corner Turn Step -Step T-Step Here are some pictures of the sports lessons with step boards: It s not so easy to dance everything synchronously, but: Practise makes perfect! D N C E F I N Out of lesson pupils of class 9 take part in a dancing course. They learn Standard dances (for example waltz, Tango, Foxtrott) and atin-merican dances (for example Jive, Cha-Cha-Cha, Samba, Rumba). The highlight after the troublesome dancing lessons is at all the final ball. The parents and some teachers are invited to this event. tradition is that the boy gives a little bunch of flowers as a present his dance partner. In return she gives her dance partner a small gift; for example a CD. B Here are some pictures of the final ball 2009:

Music in our school Music lessons in German schools Wind orchestra classes In the normal music lesson we ve got theoretical and practical parts. In the theoretical parts we learn everything about composers like Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang madeus Mozart or George Friedrich Händel, who wrote the national anthem of Germany. We have two wind orchestra classes at our school, one in the 5th and one in the 6th class. In these classes you can learn instruments like saxophone, transverse flute, clarinet, trombone, euphonium, trumpet and the drum set. Bach Mozart Händel We also learn different modern music styles like Hip-Hop or Rock and their important artists and bands. ast year we, the class 8b, got known the Scorpions with their much known song Wind of change. Not only was this band subject in our music lessons. For example we sang different songs from the Beatles like Help, et it be or Yesterday. We also talked about their history and the different instruments in the band. Special teachers from the music school come to our school and teach these instruments. The pupils who learn these instruments haven't played these instruments before. So they're beginning from zero. With the first note they play together in an orchestra so that a few months later they already can play a little concert for their parents and relatives. In the practical parts we often sing and play instruments. The favourite song of our class is Moonlight shadow from Mike Oldfield. But also Wind of change and eaving on a jet plane were one of our top ten. In the music lessons we sometimes learn the basics of how to play different instruments like guitar or drum set too. But most time we forget everything after a while. During the year the wind orchestras have many performances playing in front of an audience. They play for example at the Christmas market or together with other orchestras. That makes fun and is a cool feeling to represent the school. But before the first tune you are a bit nervous. ast year my class learned how to dance the different dances like Rumba, Waltz and Cha-chacha. We ve danced even in mixed pairs. You have to imagine how it is to dance with a girl when you are a boy. That was crazy. Choir If you love singing you can come to the school choir. You can go there from 5th to 10th class. In the moment there are around 30 pupils who are in the choir. The songs we sing reach from pop songs to traditional songs. n important part of the choir lessons is the vocal formation to get better in singing. Every year we have several performances, mainly in the school. fter the two years of wind orchestra you can play in the Big Band of the school. Events Harmonica From time to time we perform musicals. Then we build a project choir and begin to practice the piece. Pupils from under and upper classes work together. The last time we even had a real wind orchestra from outside the school which supported us. This musical called Joy in the year 2006 was unforgettable for everyone. Pupils in the 5th class, who aren t in the wind orchestra class, are learning the harmonica in the music lessons. The reason for this is to learn reading music in a practical way. Normally boys and girls in Germany don t play the harmonica in their leisure time. In primary school we often learn the recorder. So for nearly everyone playing the harmonica is new in the 5th class. But a lot of pupils in our school say it makes fun. 12
