3 Cellist Sam Ericsson, from East Orleans, Massachusetts, is a student of Melissa Kraut, enrolled in the bachelor s degree program. Aileen Gozali, piano student of Antonio Pompa-Baldi from Singapore, is enrolled in the bachelor s degree program. Violinist Laura Ha from Covina, California, studies with President Joel Smirnoff and is enrolled in the bachelor s degree program. Violinist Kurt Munstedt, from Needham, Massachusetts, is enrolled in the bachelor s program as a student of Joel Smirnoff. He is also pursuing an Audio Recording degree. Kyle Price from Worthington, Ohio, is a cello student of Merry Peckham, enrolled in the bachelor s degree program. Irwin Shung, harpsichordist from Bellevue, Washington, is a piano student of Daniel Shapiro enrolled in the bachelor s degree program. Coral Solomon from Toronto, Canada, is a piano student of Antonio Pompa-Baldi, enrolled in the bachelor s degree program. Michael Tsang, from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a piano student of Paul Schenly, enrolled in the bachelor s degree program. 3

4 Rimbo Wong, a viola student of Jeffrey Irvine from Hong Kong, is enrolled in the bachelor s degree program. Patrick Yim from Honolulu is enrolled in the bachelor s program as a student of David Updegraff. The audience is invited to attend a reception to greet the performers immediately following the program. Prize Winners will be announced during the reception. DR. ADRIAN DALY, Dean of CIM, received a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music in His experience spans student affairs, career services, academic affairs and admissions. He was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to continue his studies in Piano Performance in the US, following the completion of his master s degree at the U. of Notre Dame. His piano teachers include Jeffrey Kahane, William Cerny and Frank Heneghan. Dean Daly has over 20 years of experience teaching piano, music theory and history, and career development courses for musicians. A native of Ireland, he received his undergraduate degree from Trinity College of Music. 4 Pianist ANNETTE KAUFMAN has performed extensively as a recitalist, especially with her late husband, violinist Louis Kaufman. She served as editor of Mr. Kaufman s memoirs, A

5 Fiddler s Tale: How Hollywood and Vivaldi Discovered Me and has edited Louis Kaufman s arrangements of Vivaldi Concerti. She was interviewed by The New York Times Jeremy Eichler about Kaufman s recordings and by National Public Radio upon publication of A Fiddler s Tale. She also spoke about the works of Milton Avery in an exhibit at the Phillips Gallery in D.C. The Kaufmans were close friends of Mr. Avery and collected his paintings. She holds an honorary doctorate from Oberlin College. 5 KIMBERLY MEIER-SIMS, Director of the Sato Center of Suzuki Studies CIM, became one of the youngest registered Suzuki Teacher Trainers in the country in As a faculty member, she oversees the Master of Music in Performance and Suzuki Pedagogy degree program, conducting long-term teacher training and practicum courses. From , Ms. Meier-Sims was a full-time faculty member at the University of Memphis where she conducted long-term teacher training, was the Coordinator for the University of Memphis Suzuki String Program and Director of the University of Memphis Suzuki String Summer Institute. She holds a Bachelor s degree in education and performance from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, where she studied with John Kendall, the first American Suzuki pioneer. At Western Illinois University she received her Master s degree in performance, studying violin and pedagogy with Almita Vamos. During the summer of 1986, Ms. Meier-Sims traveled to Japan for a six-week study with Dr. Suzuki. From Ms. Meier-Sims was a violin instructor at the Preucil School of Music in Iowa City, where she also served as Suzuki Teacher Trainer, Faculty Program Assistant and Chamber Music Coordinator. She has published articles in the American Suzuki Journal and the Tennessee Musician. An active performer, Ms. Meier- Sims has played with the Memphis Symphony and has held the positions of associate principal second violin and

6 first violin in the Cedar Rapids Symphony Orchestra. In 2001, she was recognized as one of Tennessee s outstanding educators by the Tennessee Governor s School of the Arts. She was the Violin Coordinator in 2002 for the 10 th SAA National Conference in Minneapolis. In April 1999, she attended The Thirteenth World Suzuki Method Convention in Japan. Ms. Meier- Sims has taught Suzuki workshops in Cork, Ireland and throughout the U.S. GERARDO TEISSONNIÈRE performs in solo recital, with orchestra and chamber music ensembles in major concert series venues throughout the world and has made numerous appearances on radio and TV. Mr. Teissonnière combines an active performance schedule as a CIM faculty member, and has served as Artistic Director and Artist-in-Residence at the Amati Music Festival in New York. His students perform in major venues and festivals throughout the world, winning top prizes in competitions. He began his musical training at an early age in San Juan, Puerto Rico, with Cecilia Talavera and Luz Hutchinson. He continued studies at the Conservatory and made his debut as soloist with the Puerto Rico Symphony while still a student as a laureate in the first Jesús Maria Sanromá Piano Competition. He appeared as a founding member of an internationally acclaimed duo piano team while studying with Vitya Vronsky Babin at CIM, where he completed his professional studies and received the Arthur Loesser Memorial Award in Performance. Mr. Teissonnière is the recipient of the 2008 Judson Smart Living Award and the 2008 Alumni Achievement Award from CIM and has been nominated for the Ohio Arts Council's Governor's Award for the Arts. Mr. Teissonnière is exclusively a Steinway Artist. 6

7 7 The Darius Milhaud Society was founded to encourage performances of the composer s music and to help make it more widely known to performers, teachers, students and all those who have an interest in culture and the education of young people. The Society became a 501(c) 3 organization in 1983 to support performances in a Milhaud festival presented in 1984, when nineteen Cleveland institutions and organizations provided twenty -three programs of the composer s music all over greater metropolitan Cleveland. The Society has continued to initiate festivals in Cleveland and elsewhere, publishes a Newsletter, serves as liaison with publishers and provides repertoire information upon request. The Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM) faculty with their guests have presented Milhaud programs every few years. Both Darius and Madeleine Milhaud received honorary doctorates from CIM, and Mme Milhaud, professional actress and librettist for three of Milhaud's operas, visited Cleveland numerous times to participate in festivals sponsored by the Society. From 1994, the annual Darius Milhaud Performance Prize concert has provided programs by CIM conservatory students.
