2 LMS CHORUS Course Expectancy N. Daniel Privette Welcome to the new Chorus at Lakeshore Middle School! I am truly excited to join Laker Nation and continue all the wonderful things we offer at LMS. The Laker Chorus will participate in state festival competition, provide the National Anthem for local professional sports teams as well as LMS athletic events and many more performance opportunities. Most of all it is my goal to educate our students on how to read and perform music appropriately and to be ready for another successful year. What Does My Child Need? - 3 Ring Binder with notebook paper - Pencil - Charged School Laptop Grading Policy The grading policy is as follows: 40%--Singing/Written Tests 20%--Performances 40%--Class Participation = A Well Above Average = B Above Average = C Average = D Below Average 59-0 = F Well Below Average / Did not complete or attempt the assignment Class Participation A class participation grade will depend on whether or not your child is technically prepared for class. Prepared for class means: all needed supplies, sharpened pencil, homework or practice assignments completed, and ready to participate. Techniques will include assigned exercises and musical excerpts the child is required to perform. Supplies include their Chorus binder, pencil, and any supplies needed to help the student function properly in chorus. Tests / Assessments Assessments will be given from a variety of different sources: Recordings at home, Musictheory.net, in-class singing/playing tests.

3 Performances (in class and/or after school concerts) Attendance at performances is a requirement for participation in chorus. In order to give an exceptional performance, the Chorus needs all of its members present. If for some reason absence from a performance is unavoidable, the director should be notified at least three weeks prior to the performance, if possible. At that time a make-up assignment will be given to the student to receive credit. Concert dates will be announced well in advance and posted on the LMS Chorus webpage. Chorus Expectations/Rules 1. Bring all needed materials to class daily. 2. Quickly get to class and get your chorus folder/find your seat. 3. Get permission before speaking or leaving your seat. 4. NO gum or candy inside the chorus room. 5. Respect others and their property. (this is includes music stands, whiteboards, sound equipment, pianos, etc.) Consequences 1. Student Conference 2. Office Referral Uniform for Concerts/Informal Performances Formal Concerts and Competitions: For our formal concerts (at night) and for our opportunities to participate in state competitions, students are to wear black dress pants and shoes, along with a black long sleeved buttoned down shirt. Informal Performances (during school)/athletic Performances Chorus t-shirt and khaki pants/shorts/capri pants with clean tennis shoes. Chorus shirt will be tucked for the complete performance. Ladies can wear a dress code appropriate khaki skirt if desired. Please remember in your uniform you are not only representing LMS, but also Iredell County and the reputation of your parents and chorus director. Please refrain from any harsh language or nonsense of any kind. We do not want to exclude anyone from participating due to need. However, students attending LMS Chorus performances without the proper uniform will not be allowed to perform. Anyone unable to obtain the proper concert attire should contact Mr. Privette at least 3 weeks before the performance. Each matter will be handled individually and confidentially.

4 Concert Etiquette Since performance is a major objective of any chorus, concert etiquette must be learned and practiced. Below are some of the major expectations during a concert. Everyone should remain seated during the performance of each selection. If you must leave during a concert, you should exit quietly between musical selections. There should be no talking during a group s performance. Wait until the conductor lowers their arms before you clap. Please be considerate to the performers on stage. Unless it is an emergency please do not leave or take flash photography during the performance. Mr. Privette will give time for photography at every concert. Turn off all electronic devices that make noise. (tablets, cell phones, or watches) With your assistance and patience LMS Chorus will have another successful year. Musically, N.
