1 Soft Way to Mozart MUSIC CURRICULUM First year young beginners Objectives: This teaching course is based on the "hands on" experience of students studying music as an independent language. Music making is an essential part of this curriculum and music theory, music appreciation and the understanding of music as a valuable art come in first place. All other skills should be built from playing the Treble and Bass Clefs on the piano/keyboard, advanced development of both hands (10 fingers) coordination, piano technique, sight-reading, singing Solfeggio and writing music dictations. What students will learn: 1. Theory. The music note alphabet, all of the music notes of The First and Small octaves, about eighth, quarter, and half notes, Tune, Major Tune, Tonic, Subdominant, Dominant, staccato, legato, fermata, noisy and musical sounds, pitch, rhythm and time signature, tonality, note duration, and bits. 2. Solfeggio - learning to sing, memorize and write down simple melodies in Do Major (2/4 and 4/4) 3. Harmony - learning to play Tonic, Subdominant and Dominant by ear for simple music pieces in Do Major. 4. Sight-reading - playing Nursery and Classical pieces of music using both hands on the piano (keyboard). 5. Performance - learning and performing piano pieces of modern and contemporary composers at recitals.

3 Week 1 A. Theory: music note alphabet (10 minutes) 1. Learning the symbols: Do - Door, Re - Rain, Mi - Mirror, Fa - Farm, Sol - Salt, La - Ladder and Ti - Cup of Tea, using Flash Cards Level 1(Sheets 1 and 2) 2. Singing the scale from Do to Do, pressing the piano/keyboard keys with piano key stickers 3. Learning how to put flash cards in the order of: Do Re Mi Fa Sol La and Ti. Flip one of the card over and learn how to count to the missing card. B. Finger Exercises (5 minutes) 1. The Guess Key Name computer game - play for 10 minutes, write down the results 2. Five fingers exercise Learning to play from - the Middle Do (red note on 0, half-brown and half-green line) with the Right Hand: Do Re Mi Fa Sol and Sol Fa Mi Re Do using five fingers of the Right Hand. - the small octave Do (blue note between 3rd and 4th brown lines) with the Left Hand: Do Re Mi Fa Sol and Sol Fa Mi Re Do using five fingers of the Left Hand. Play the exercise one hand at a time. (20 minutes) The song Hot Cross Buns (Introductory Songs) R1 - learn to play the song with the Right Hand (play 2 times and write the results in your note book. Compare the results. If the amount of points on the left part of monitor increases and amount of points on the right part of monitor decreases, give the student a winning star. Use the correct fingering on the notes (Mi - the 3 rd, Re - the 4 th and Do - the 1 st ) Sing the music notes while playing the song with the Right Hand D. Historical/Cultural. The book Kingdom of Tune (5 minutes) 1. Read the First Page about the Girl and the Tuner 2. Explain what "Piano got sick" or "Out of Tune" means and what a Tuning Fork is, including how it is used for tuning the piano. 1.Color the first picture of the book at home (My piano got ill) 2. Learn to put cards from Do to Do in order 3. Learn to recite "Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Ti Do" out loud, quickly 4. Play the song "Hot Cross Buns" with the Right hand 4. Learn to play Do Re Mi Fa Sol and Sol Fa Mi Re Do with the right and left hands

Practice the same exercise using both hands at the same time The song Hot Cross Buns (Introductory Songs) (15 minutes) L1 - learn to play the song with the Left Hand (play 2 times and record the results in your note book. Compare the results. If the amount of points on the left part of the monitor is increasing and the amount of points on the right part of the monitor is decreasing, award the student with a winning star. Use the correct fingering on the notes (The blue Do of the small octave is played with the pinky and the blue Sol of the small octave is played with the thumb) R1 - play the song with your Right Hand the way you learned it last time and sing the notes while playing them D. Historical/Cultural. The book Kingdom of Tune (5 minutes) 1. Read the Second Page about the Girl and the Tuner, and how the Tuning Fork becomes a smaller version of the Tuner 2. Review what a "Piano being out of Tune" means and what a Tuning Fork is 1. Color the second picture of the book at home (Girl is holding the Tuning Fork) 2. Learn to place cards from Do to Do in descending order 3. Recite "Do Ti La Sol Fa Mi Re Do" quickly 4. Practice the song "Hot Cross Buns" with the Left hand 4. Play Do Re Mi Fa Sol and Sol Fa Mi Re Do from the red and blue Dos with both hands

Discuss the different kinds of sounds we hear 3. Compare and contrast the sounds of nature and the sounds of people s voices. 1. Color the third picture of the book at home 2. Learn to place cards in ascending and descending order from Re to Re 3. Recite "Re Mi Fa Sol La Ti Do Re" and "Re Do Ti La Sol Fa Mi Re" quickly 4.
