2 Twin Lakes Choir Thank you for allowing your child to become a member of the Twin Lakes Choir. Thanks also for encouraging your child and helping him/her get to choir each week. Please make sure he/she is on time to each rehearsal. Here is more specific information. After reading, fill out the choir contract/registration form. 1. Schedule: We ll meet Wednesday mornings from 7:15-8:15 in the MP room and occassionally on additional Tuesday mornings when additional rehearsals are needed. ALWAYS ASSUME THERE IS REHEARSAL on Wednesday Choir days. Cancellations will be communicated through notes, or announcements at school. I ll announce it to the kids or have their teacher pass on the information if necessary. If there is NO school on choir day, there is NO choir. If there is a minimum day on choir day, there IS choir. 2. Attendance: The one thing that makes or breaks the success of any choir is on-time, regular attendance. Signing up for choir is a commitment for the year and regular attendance is imperative for the success of our performances. Therefore, any singer who has 2 or more unexcused absences may be asked not to perform. Three tardies will be counted as one absence. PLEASE me or send a note if your child is absent. Otherwise, it will be marked as an unexcused absence. I always make allowances for illness or family emergencies. CHOIR REQUIRES A COMMITMENT FROM SEPTEMBER THROUGH MAY. Attendance in the following performances is expected of all singers: School assemblies, Winter Concert, Spring Concert and San Juan Sings Prior approval must be granted if a student will be absent. (Kings and River Cats games are optional) Choir is a group activity similar to being on a sports team. Our rehearsals are our practices and our concerts/performances are our games. There s no reason for the practices if you re not going to play in the game. We rely on EVERY singer for our performances and I choose music partly based on the number of students who join the choir. Thanks so much in advance for your understanding and support of this. 3. Behavior: Appropriate behavior is expected of all choir students. Any student who regularly exhibits disruptive behavior will be asked not to return to choir. 4. T-shirts: See the t-shirt order form for information on choir shirts. We ll wear them at all performances.

Performances: PLEASE MARK THESE ON YOUR CALENDAR * = REQUIRED PERFORMANCE *Winter Concert: Wednesday, December 13th Evening concert - 6:30 p.m. Twin Lakes MP Room Assembly performance for the school 2:00 p.m. Twin Lakes MP Room KINGS Game: Thursday, March 22 nd Golden 1 Arena Kings vs. Orlando Game time 7:00 We ve performed at Kings games the last few years and are excited to sing again for the second time in the new Golden 1 Arena. I can only take about 60 kids to sing, so the 6 th and 5 th graders have first priority. We re always required to be there a few hours before game time for a sound check. I ll communicate the specific times when I get my instructions from the Kings. Last year, it was 4:00. Thursday is an early school day, which will help. More to come about the game and ordering tickets as soon as I have the information. Tickets must be purchased through an on-line group link from the Kings. *San Juan Sings: Tuesday, April 10 th Rehearsal/field trip 8:30-1:30 p.m. Concert with local San Juan high schools, middle schools and elementary schools. 7:00 pm evening concert for families - daytime field trip for rehearsal. *Spring Concert: Wednesday, May 9 th Evening concert - 6:30 p.m. Twin Lakes MP Room Assembly performance for the school 2:00 p.m. Twin Lakes MP Room Please make arrangements around baseball games for this concert. River Cats Game National Anthem: DATE TBA I ve taken many choirs to sing at Raley Field, and it s always a treat. I will let you know when the date will be (usually in May). We always sing with my Northridge Choir for this performance. More information to come. Here s to a great, song-filled year for our Twin Lakes Choir!! Questions?? Wednesday, November 29 th Choir rehearsal Wednesday, December 6 th Choir rehearsal Wednesday, December 13 th Choir rehearsal Wednesday, December 13 th WINTER CONCERT Day assembly for the school 2:00 Evening required performance 7:00 Wednesday, December 20 th Choir rehearsal There might be 1 or 2 additional Tuesday rehearsals added if necessary. 5 TWIN LAKES CHOIR To officially register your child for choir, please fill out the following information and return this form to Ms. Thorgrimson by (or preferably before) Wednesday, September 20th. MEMBERSHIP CONTRACT My child has my permission to join the Twin Lakes Choir.We have read the choir handbook and understand that the following items are the expectations of membership in the choir: A commitment to remain in the choir for the entire year Regular, punctual attendance at every Wednesday rehearsal Appropriate behavior and positive participation -- you need to SING!! 6 TWIN LAKES CHOIR T-SHIRTS - $10 Every choir student must have a music t-shirt. We wear our t-shirts for every performance! PLEASE BE SURE THE SIZE ORDERED FOR YOUR CHILD IS ROOMY These should be modest and not skin tight shirts. The shirts run a bit small and usually tighten up when washed, so I recommend ordering a larger, rather than smaller size. The youth small (YS) shirts will probably only work for the smallest 4 th graders. Please contact me if you cannot pay for a shirt. Then I can help out to make sure your child is able to get one. PLEASE SEND $10 CASH FOR YOUR SHIRTS (I won t have change sorry) Please put the cash in an envelope with your child s name and room # on the outside and turn it in to Ms. Thorgrimson.
