1 20 March 2017 P A R E N T S insite ESKDALE FESTIVAL 2017 Once again many of our musicians have competed and performed in this year s Eskdale Festival at the Spa Pavilion. We had entrants in a wide range of classes, including: Isabella Bridge - second in piano solo Naomi Fester - third in piano solo Isabella Bridge and Naomi Fester - second in piano duet Lorna Quantrill - first in woodwind solo (oboe); first in clarinet solo; first in piano solo; first in two skills (oboe and clarinet) Lorna Quantrill and Rosie Hutt - second in instrumental duet (oboe and trombone) Max Gower - first in instrumental recital (guitar) Hadden Grainger - first in vocal recital Rosa Byatt-Goodall - second in piano solo Joseph Shone- Hatchwell - first in piano recital and piano solo classes Rosa Byatt-Goodall, Rachel Russell, Ella Smith - first in woodwind ensemble (flute trio) Lydia Shone-Hatchwell - first in piano recital and Sonatina classes; second in piano solo Maeve Clenaghan, Jacob Crusher and Elena Bloor - first in piano trio Will Jackson - second in instrumental solo Xavia Crossling - first in vocal solo; first in flute recital Xavia Crossling and Emily Botham - first in vocal duet Amelia Braim - instrumental solo Elena Bloor and Pippa Mesley - instrumental duet Mae Knight, Ruby Elliott, Paige Illingworth - piano solo Many congratulations to all students for their hard work and bravery. We are very proud of you.

2 SPORTS NEWS Y9 NETBALL Year 9 netballers were in action again this week. The formidable shooting duo of Phoenix Sykes and Erin Hodgson were on fantastic form to help the team to an impressive victory over Lady Lumley s. In defence Tia Wood, Charlotte Everall, Abi Motson, Emma Snaith and Rosie Hutt combined well to ensure the opposition attack did not have an easy task. Centre court was dominated by the rapid Olivia Morrison (back in action just over a week since she took a nasty fall on court followed by a trip to A and E!) Harriet Cooke, provided an invaluable link between centre court and the shooters, (Harriet was also part of a successful district team that played in an inter-area tournament last week). Wing players Katarina Harrison Gaze, Imogen Wright, Hannah Watt, Jess Price and Kate Simpson were excellent both in attack and defence. The team is guided through the whole process by captain Maddie Hart who does a great job motivating and directing the team. Y10 HOCKEY The team travelled to Malton. It proved to be a closely contested Cup game with Malton scoring two goals in the last couple of minutes. The girls battled hard from start to finish (Daisy Storr was a huge miss when she had to go off half way through the second half with a knee ligament injury). The team are: Alice Longster, Kacey Balwin, Jaz Kent, Anna Lees, Tiegan Fletcher, Daisy Storr, Mae Knight, Lauren Tindall, Lacey Hewison, Hollie Webster, Amelia Braim, Emily Lewis and Issy Hogarth. We hope to have a longer report and some photographs from our next game against Ryedale as we have just employed Sophie Rowe as our team reporter and photographer! DISTRICT NETBALL Emma Raw, Maddalena Mastrolonardo, Chloe Scarth and Millie Storr are in action next week for the district against York, Richmond and Harrogate Schools. CROSS COUNTRY Good luck to sixth former Maddalena Mastrolonardo who traveled to Norwich on Friday 17 March to compete for North Yorkshire in the National Schools Cross Country.

3 KEY STEPS GYMNASTICS Key steps 1,2,3 were held at Eskdale with around 200 students taking part over all three events. The events focused on developing gymnastics skills and techniques around the key areas of body management, flight, and sequence work. Eskdale and Caedmon College sports leaders joined forces for this event showing strong leadership and judging skills. A number of schools went on to represent Whitby in the SPP s at Lady Lumley s. Key Steps 1: East Whitby Key Steps 2 and 3: Fylingdales, East Whitby, West Cliff HIGH FIVE NETBALL LEAGUE FINALS The primary school netball finals took place on Normanby netball courts ran by Mrs Raw and Mr Hopper, six local primary schools attended who had already battled it out in the league rounds to reach the finals day. The high five netball tournament was a fantastic afternoon and showed a good standard of play. Airy Hill ran out clear winners of the tournament with an excellent team performance. The sixth form umpires of Emma Foster, Chloe Scarth, Bronte Nicholas -Miller and Megan Coates did a fantastic job.

4 EASTER REVISION SESSIONS Dear Year 11, You are all invited to revision sessions on Saturday 1 April in the Learning Centre Session 1: 10.00am-12.00pm four workshops showing you how to revise and how to keep calm during exam time Session 2: pm these will be subject specific workshops and your teachers will give you more information soon. Please come along so we can HELP YOU pass your GCSE exams. There will be refreshments provided.
