3 In recent meetings... Some questions show Great assumptions or unexpected Ignorance And following discussion Some great explanations Due to a lack of the basics... BUT a feeling that all was not well

4 Not well?? Some said IT does not understand Broadcast Others said Broadcast does not understand IT Some dialog later IT people do not get IT basics Broadcasting people do not get Broadcasting fundamentals It is not them and us WE - the Technical Broadcasting community do not understand enough of the fundamentals... Perhaps due to the way the industry has not recruited???????

7 What is Fundamental knowledge? The Basics all should be aware of The simple truth not detailed... Snippets of Wisdom acquired not really formally taught Physics Optics Acoustics HVS HAS Common Technologies e.g Sensors, SDI, UDP, Scan formats Workflows end to end for all businesses Common Sense!

8 Technical Community Those who are well established some know more than others Those who are working in the industries may be changed role Those who have other skills and have moved across to Media Technology And as recruitment ramps up. Apprentices /other trainees - those starting off in an IP Age

9 What is a fundamental That is what we want to find from you...often there is too much detail rather than a broad brush These are almost all the things that almost all of those in the community need to know/be aware of

12 So how much detail Is more better? If it is where do we draw the line And how do we link the fundamentals together??? and is there a role for some more education on key technologies above the Fundamentals - Park for Now??

13 Example ST ST : SDI over RTP* RTP items Marker bit indicates last datagram in frame* PT=98 for , =99 for FEC (*) 27 MHz RTP timestamp clock* Video payload is always1376 octets* One datagram often has data from two lines* Sometimes a pixel or even a sample could be split between datagrams* Last datagram in frame is padded with zeros to fill out 1376 octets*
