3 Company News OPTOKON and Suncall America Alliance The alliance between OPTOKON and Suncall America stretches back many years and this was further demonstrated by the two companies sharing a booth at OFC 2013 held in Anaheim in March. The booth was staffed by Jiri Stefl, the OPTOKON General Director along with Yoshi Takahashi and Chad Eubanks, The Suncall America CEO and Sales Manager respectively, who promote OPTOKON test equipment on the American market. On the joint participation at this year s OFC show, Chad commented The 2013 OFC show was a great success for both Suncall and OPTOKON and we felt very fortunate to come away with many credible leads. With the c o n t i n u i n g ex p a n s i o n f o r t h e requirement of fiber optic components worldwide, as well as the means in which to test and measure this medium both in the data center and the field, the alliance between the two companies opens up the door to international business and a joint market share between the Americas and Europe. We look forward to an exciting year of growth and the ability to provide our customers with the quality tools, components and service they deserve from a combined source. 4 OPTOKON News DTTC Demonstration, Training and Test Center (DTTC) The Czech Defence Industry and Security Review Magazine also featured an article on the new Demonstration, Training and Test center recently launched at OPTOKON. The center is intended to support the domestic defence and security industry. The magazine featured an article and interviews with Jiří Štefl who explained the role of OPTOKON in the DTTC and RNDR Jiří Hynek, the President and CEO of the Defence and Security Industry of the Czech Republic who explained the mission and the choice of OPTOKON to house the DTTC. The full interviews are available to read and download on the OPTOKON blog. Click here The new Deputy General Director of OPTOKON OPTOKON welcomes the appointment of Assoc. Prof. Ing. Milan Šnajder, Ph.D. who joined the top management of OPTOKON at the beginning of March 2013 in the position of Deputy General Director. Doctor Šnajder s primary mission is assist OPTOKON in focusing on innovation and is responsible for project management in research and development in order to improve innovative production. It is expected that his extensive experience acquired in developing special systems will accelerate the role of OPTOKON as a system integrator for more complex solutions. He also joins the company as the Head of the Academic Council of OPTOKON. Mr. Šnajder graduated in computer science at the Military Academy where he was the author of a dissertation on technical diagnostics and he achieved habilitation in area of command, control and digitization of the battlefield and is also a graduate of the Open University Business School. 5 Company News Light Brigade training at OPTOKON Following on from last years agreement to hold training courses at OPTOKON, the Light Brigade, the premier fiber optic training company in the USA will be holding certified training courses at OPTOKON in October. Two training courses are to be held; the first will focus on FTTH design and the second will address new technology for engineers. Further details will be available shortly. 6 Company News C2/C4 ISR The latest edition of the Czech Defence Industry and Security magazine carries an article by Pavel Pospíchal, the Technical Director of OPTOKON, who explains exactly what the C2/C4 system is and how this system enables OPTOKON to offer and ensure the complete solution for military systems. FULL ARTICLE The last challenge to OPTOKON specialists is to develop a universal communication and information module, which forms the basic communication infrastructure in the tactical battlefield interconnecting any type of communication as satellite, HF, VHF, UHF, terrestrial, GSM and IP telephone and various amounts computers. This equipment is called the LMSB 14.4 CIMX COMM ALL and is the jewel of the LMSB 14 series, which starts with a traditional switchboard. Using this universal part of C2/C4 architecture, OPTOKON is now ready to take its place as a system integrator for the HW part of the command and control system. OPTOKON Newsletter Page 6

7 New Products OFT-840 Loss Test Set with RL This small size, 3-in- lightweight loss test set with optical Return Loss (RL) combines the functions of an optical light source, power meter and return loss testing in one unit. The optical light source fulfills all the technical requirements for field equipment and is available in wavelength combinations of 850, 1300, 1310, 1490, 1550 and 1625 nm. The optical power meter is designed to measure absolute or relative optical power in optical networks while the optical RL function provides an extended measurement range with improved linearity. The OFT-840 can upload and store up to 3000 measurements. NEW LMC Series The LMC series introduces the new series of ruggedized media converters which extends use of Ethernet in military, aerospace, broadcasting, petrochemical and harsh industrial applications while fulfilling demands for mobility, easy installation and the mechanical resistance required for tactical deployment in the field. The series currently comprises: LMC-01.BF ruggedized 100M single media converter LMC-01.GF ruggedized 1G single media converter LMC-02.GF ruggedized 1G double media converter ECNP ETSI Connector Network Panel Now available in new dimensions, the ECNP cabinet is based on universal optical distribution frames and provides splicing and termination within one convenient housing unit. The ECNP terminates up to 144 fibers in a 7SU (ETSI height) distribution frame. The swing-out shelf enables unrestricted front, rear and top access to the splicing area and termination panels. The versatility of the unit coupled with the low shipping costs due to the low weight makes this cabinet excellent value for money. The OPTOKON MOT-700 Mini-OTDR video manual. A new video manual for the MOT-700 mini-otdr is now available for downloading and viewing online on the OPTOKON YouTube channel. The manual provides practical instructions and demonstrations and the instructions are clearly labelled, so no sound is actually required.
