5 USE For the TV with a three-wire grounding type AC power cord plug (Cla 1 unit) Thi TV mut be connected to an AC power ocket outlet with a protective earthing connection. AC power cord If you damage the AC power cord, it may reult in a fire or an electric hock. If the AC power cord i damaged, top uing it and ak your dealer or Sony ervice center to exchange it. Do not place the TV where the power cord i ubject to wear or abue. Do not pinch, bend, or twit the cord exceively. The core line may be bared and cut, and caue a hort-circuit, reulting in a fire or an electric hock. Do not convert or damage the power cord. Do not allow anything to ret on or roll over the power cord. Do not pull the power cord. Do not move the TV with the power cord plugged in. Keep the power cord away from heat ource. Be ure to grap the plug when diconnecting the power cord. Wall outlet Do not ue a poor fitting outlet. Inert the plug fully into the outlet. If it i looe, it may caue arcing and reult in a fire. Contact your electrician to have the outlet changed. Wiring For your afety, unplug the AC power cord when wiring cable. Cable wiring Take care not to catch your feet on the cable. It may damage the TV. Electric hock Do not touch the AC power cord or the TV with a wet hand. If you plug/unplug the AC power cord from the TV with a wet hand, it may caue electric hock. Lightning For added protection for thi TV during a lightning torm, or when it i left unattended and unued for long period of time, unplug it from the wall outlet and diconnect the antenna. Thi will prevent damage to the receiver due to lightning and power line urge. ANTENNA Outdoor Antenna Grounding If an outdoor antenna i intalled, follow the precaution below. An outdoor antenna ytem hould not be located in the vicinity of overhead power line or other electric light or power circuit, or where it can come in contact with uch power line or circuit. WHEN INSTALLING AN OUTDOOR ANTENNA SYSTEM, EXTREME CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN TO KEEP FROM CONTACTING SUCH POWER LINES OR CIRCUITS AS CONTACT WITH THEM IS ALMOST INVARIABLY FATAL. Be ure the antenna ytem i grounded o a to provide ome protection againt voltage urge and built-up tatic charge. SOUND If a napping or popping ound from the TV i continuou or frequent while the TV i operating, unplug the TV and conult your dealer or ervice technician. 6 VENTILATION The lot and opening in the TV are provided for neceary ventilation. To enure reliable operation of the TV, and to protect it from overheating, thee lot and opening mut never be blocked or covered. Unle proper ventilation i provided, the TV may gather dut and get dirty. For proper ventilation, oberve the following: Do not intall the TV face up or down or ideway. Do not intall the TV turned over or upide down. Never cover the lot and opening with a cloth or other material. Never block the lot and opening by placing the TV on a bed, ofa, rug or other imilar urface. 7 INSTALLATION When intalling or removing, uing the Wall-Mount Bracket, be ure to ue qualified contractor. Wall mount intallation require the ue of a Wall-Mount Bracket. If not properly ecured during intallation or removal from the Wall-Mount Bracket, the TV may fall and caue eriou injury. Pleae ue a qualified contractor when intalling or removing. Placement for viewing It i recommended to watch the TV at a ditance of 3-7 time that of the creen height, and in moderate brightne. Watching the TV for too long or in a dark room may caue eye fatigue. Optional wall mount Oberve the following when intalling the TV uing a wall-mount bracket. If the TV i not ecured properly, it may fall and caue injury. Be ure to follow the operating intruction upplied with the wall-mount bracket when intalling the TV. Do not puh or cratch the LCD creen, or place object on top of the TV. The image may be uneven or the LCD panel may be damaged. Handling of broken gla and liquid crytal leakage If the LCD panel get damaged, crytalline liquid leakage may occur, or cattered broken gla may reult. 11 Getting Started Welcome to the World of Connecting the TV TM Thank you for purchaing thi Sony LCD Digital Color TV. Thi manual i for model KDL-52XBR2 and KDL-52XBR3. The packing box contain acceorie that are lited on page 52. To diplay clear crip picture, you mut connect your TV correctly and elect the correct Wide Mode to diplay the picture in the correct apect ratio (ee Changing the Wide Screen Mode on page 24). It i trongly recommended that you connect the antenna/cable input uing the upplied 75-ohm coaxial cable to receive optimum picture quality ignal. A 300-ohm twin lead cable can be eaily affected by radio noie and the like, reulting in ignal deterioration. If you ue a 300-ohm twin lead cable, keep it a far away from the TV a poible. You can alo connect a variety of optional equipment to your TV (ee page 16). For multiple equipment connection, pleae refer to the eparate Quick Setup Guide. Be ure to take meaure to prevent the TV from toppling over and cauing injury. The upplied wood crew may not be ued depending on the type of TV tand. In thi cae, or when the ecuring trength i not enough, ue commercial crew 3 to 4 mm (1/8 to 3/16 inche) diameter to fit to the TV tand. Conult your dealer about the type of crew. Bundling the Connecting Cable You can bundle the connecting cable a illutrated below. Do not bundle the AC power cord with other connecting cable. 18

19 Getting Started When Intalling on a Wall Thi TV can be intalled on a wall by uing a wall-mount bracket (old eparately). Be ure to ue the pecified Wall-Mount Bracket (ee page 3). Before mounting the TV on a wall, you mut remove the Table-Top Stand from the TV. Follow the tep below to remove the Table-Top Stand, and then ue the intruction guide that came with the Wall-Mount Bracket (old eparately) to mount the TV on the wall. Do not remove the Table-Top Stand for any reaon other than to wallmount the TV. Follow the imple tep below to remove the Table-Top Stand: 1 Diconnect all the cable from the TV. 2 Start removing the crew from the one on top. (See illutration below) Do not remove any other crew from the TV. 3 When crew are removed, lift the TV out. Make ure that you carry out thi tak with two people. Do not attempt to lift the TV by yourelf. For bracket intallation, refer to the intruction guide provided by the Wall- Mount Bracket model for your TV. Sufficient expertie i required in intalling thi TV, epecially to determine the trength of the wall for withtanding the TV weight. For product protection and afety reaon, Sony trongly recommend that you ue the Wall-Mount Bracket model deigned for your TV and the wall-mounting of your TV hould be performed by Sony dealer or licened contractor.
