DVSport is proud to announce its partnership with the Ohio Valley Conference to be the HD Instant Replay provider for Football and Men s and Women s Basketball. As part of this process DVSport will be providing a HD multi-sport, multi-capture replay system to each member institution. In addition, DVSport will work closely with each school to evaluate their football stadium and basketball arena to determine if any infrastructure adjustments need to be made to accommodate replay. Once the evaluation is complete, DVSport will work with each school to develop a plan to address the infrastructure changes prior to the installation of the replay system. As part of the installation process a DVSport employee will come on-site to each school to install the replay system, test the replay system, and conduct training with school personnel that will be involved with the management, setup, and operation of the replay system. DVSport Replay Equipment Each School Will Receive 1 DVSport HD Multi-Sport, Multi-Capture Replay System in a Protective Traveling Case. 1 Football Replay Touch Screen for data entry 2 24 Football Replay monitors for video playback. 1 Football Replay Communication Package that includes: 10 pagers, 1 pager base, 2 headsets, 2 belt packs, 1 headset power supply, and 2 walkie-talkies. 3-16x9 Basketball Replay Monitors in a Protective Traveling Case (will also store basketball peripheral items). 2 - Technician Controllers (One for Football and Basketball) 2 - Official s Remotes (One for Football and Basketball) 2 - Computer Keyboards (One for Football and Basketball) 2 - Computer Mice (One for Football and Basketball) Cables to Connect Replay System to Monitors DVSport Replay Equipment Specifics The Replay System is stored in a protective case with wheels. The dimensions of the protective case are: 19 W x 25 H x 14 D. For football games the replay system and monitors will reside in the replay booth. For basketball games the replay system and monitors will reside at the scorer s table. In between games the Basketball Replay monitors and peripherals will be stored in a pelican case with wheels. The pelican case will be stored in a secure location and only brought courtside during setup and tear down. The Replay System will have the capability to capture up to 4 video signals simultaneously. The video signals will connect to the replay system via BNC cables. The replay system can capture the following HD video formats: 1080i, 720p, and SD-SDI.
School Preparation Prior to Replay System Installation Prior to the DVSport s arrival for installation and training it is expected that each school has completed any infrastructure changes and other preparations required to accommodate replay. Below is a summary of items that should be completed by the school prior to DVSport s arrival. Football 1. Identification of a Replay Booth. a. The replay booth should be able to accommodate four individuals and the replay equipment. b. The replay booth should be a minimum of 10 wide by 6 deep. c. The replay booth should be enclosed on all four sides. d. The replay booth should be climate controlled. e. View of the field should not be obstructed from the replay booth. f. Counters should have holes in them for cables to pass through. g. The replay booth should have multiple power outlets, preferably at least two at the front of the booth and one at the back of the booth. 2. Video Feeds and Camera Locations: Schools should be able to provide 4 HD/SDI or SD/SDI feeds to the replay booth for all football games. The four preferred feeds are: a. Program Feed from the Production Room: This is the video feed that goes out to the OVC network. This feed should have the clock and score embedded in the video, and have the ability to show replays of multiple angles if needed. b. High EZ: This camera is usually at least 25 feet off the ground and the video feed from this camera can be routed through the production room, or directly to the replay system from the camera. c. Low EZ: This camera is usually on a platform about 3 feet off the ground, and is preferably on the opposite end of the field as the high EZ camera. This video feed can also be routed through the production room or directly to the replay system from the camera. d. HH / Cart: The hand held or cart camera is a mobile camera that has the ability to roam the sidelines, and capture the action at field level, most notably at both goal lines, depending on where the action is during the game. This video feed can also be routed through the production room or directly to the replay system from the camera.
3. Fiber and Fiber Converters a. Fiber Converters i. If the HD/SDI cable run exceeds 250 it will be necessary to run the video feed over Fiber. The fiber will need to be converted to coax with a BNC connection prior to connecting to the replay system. This means BNC to Fiber converters will need to be purchased. ii. Fiber Converters can be provided by the school or purchased through DVSport. We recommend the AJA Fido Fiber Converters. A pair which includes a transmitter and receiver can be purchased through DVSport for $750. b. Fiber Installation i. If Fiber Installation is required we recommend installing Single Mode Fiber with ST Connections. ii. It is recommended that more strands of fiber are installed then what is required for this project so you have extra strands of fiber should one of the strands go bad. 1. From the TV Truck Bay we recommend a minimum of six strands of fiber be run to the replay booth. 2. From the camera locations we recommend a minimum of two strands of fiber be run from each camera location to the production room. 3. From the production room to the replay booth we recommend a minimum of 6 fiber strands be run. iii. Fiber can be terminated in an enclosure or in a wall panel.
c. Enclosures i. It is recommended that enclosures be installed at the Truck Bay / Production Room and Replay Booth. These enclosures house the Fiber and Fiber Converters and keep them safe from weather and other potential damage. ii. Wall Mount or Rack Mount Enclosures are available. iii. Enclosures can be provided by the school or purchased through DVSport. Enclosures cost $1,000 for a pair (Truck Bay Enclosure and Replay Booth Enclosure) through DVSport. This cost does not include the fiber converters.
4. In-House Camera Locations: Ohio Valley HD Replay Integration a. Below are two diagrams that demonstrate the camera wiring that is utilized at the majority of our FCS schools across the country. The first diagram is the most popular setup, and is being utilized in the CAA, Big South, some of Southland and some of the Big Sky institutions. Since there is currently a good amount of infrastructure in place for the OVC Network, we believe this configuration should work best at most institutions. This diagram shows all camera angles being wired to a central location such as a production room at the venue, and then those video feeds are sent over to the replay booth. Diagram 1:
Diagram 2: Ohio Valley HD Replay Integration b. The second diagram also illustrates the program feed coming from the production room, but the other cameras are feeding the replay system directly from the camera location. This configuration is utilized at several Southland locations as well as a few Big Sky institutions. This setup is usually utilized if there is not a TV / webcast production of any kind, or if the production location is not located at the stadium.
5. Communication Lines. DVSport will provide communication equipment for the Replay Official to communicate with the Game Referee. This equipment includes: pagers, headsets, and walkie-talkies. a. Headsets i. DVSport will provide a wired headset. This headset will connect to the field via XLR cabling. The Headset will reside with a sideline assistant at one of the 20 yard lines. ii. It is the responsibility of the school to provide an XLR connection from the replay booth to the field. iii. DVSport XLR Cabling Recommendations are 22 Gauge Shielded Twisted Pair Belden 8723). We recommend two XLR cables be run between the booth and the field so you have a backup line in case the primary line fails. iv. A longer XLR cable will also be needed to get from the sideline to the top of the numbers on the field, so the replay official and referee can communicate away from the distractions on the sideline. b. Pager System i. DVSport will provide a pager system for the Replay Official to page the on-field officials in the event the game is to be stopped for review. The pager frequency is for the official s pagers. c. Walkie-Talkies i. DVSport will provide two walkie-talkies. The walkie-talkies will be used as a backup form of communication between the Replay Booth and the Field if the Headsets fail. d. Ring Down Phones i. Dry pair lines should be provided for Ring Down Phones to the Field, In-House Production Room, and TV Truck. ii. A ring down phone to the field will be used as a back-up form of communication in case the headset and walkie-talkies are not working properly. iii. A ring down phone to the TV Truck and/or In-House Production Room shall be used to communicate with the Producer during reviews. e. Game Referee Mic in the Replay Booth i. The Game Referee Mic should be audible in the replay booth so replay booth personnel can hear communication given by the referee over his mic.
6. Internet a. A hardline internet connection needs to be provided to the replay system. b. If outbound communication is blocked we need either port 587 or 25 open. c. The internet connection is used by DVSport to gain remote access of the computer. The remote access application used by DVSport is LogMeIn. d. The internet connection is also used to send in-game notifications and web clips of reviews, postgame reports, and upload game video to a secure website for future use by conference personnel. 7. Game Clock Data Feed Installation DVSport Replay has a feature that enables the replay system to sync with the official game clock. This allows the DVSport HD Replay System to automatically import the game clock at snap, simplifying data entry and ensuring pinpoint accuracy on post-game reports. DVSport HD Replay currently supports clock integration with the following clock vendors: Daktronics, OES, and White Way. DVSport is in the process of adding support for other clock vendors. If your institution does not use one of the previously stated vendors, please contact us concerning what vendor you do use so we can add support for that vendor. Installation requirements will vary slightly depending on your clock vendor and existing infrastructure, please reference the information below to ensure the requirements are met for the clock vendor used in your stadium. Regardless of clock vendor, each school will need to install a serial cable from the game clock controller location to the replay system. The DVSport HD Replay System requires a female DB9 connection; the other connection will be determined by the type of connector on the clock controller and should be referenced before installing the cable. The scoreboard controllers utilize the RS-232 protocol, so the serial cable for this project must be wired for RS-232. Please note that RS-232 has a distance limitation of 50, if greater distance is required than a RS-232 to RS-485 (4000 limitation) converter or a RS-232 CAT5e/CAT6 (1200 limitation) extender can be used. Please note that if a RS-485 converter or CAT5e/CAT6 extender is used it will be necessary to convert back to RS-232 at the replay system, please see suggested converters below. Also, if a cable run of greater than 4000 is required please contact DVSport. RS-485 to RS-232 Converter: This link ( converter-xs201a?gclid=cmwsqqyip74cfqkhogodhkoamq) includes a cost effective solution. Please note that two of these bi-directional converters would be required so one can be placed at the transmit end and one at the receive end. Also, make note that your serial cable will need to be wired for RS-485 not RS-232. CAT5e/CAT6 Converter: This link ( PyMsBEiQA9hQPbpC4yZP7vMMU- QMz0IXtT884BE55jWMGYxrqJ2QdZK8aAiz58P8HAQ) provides a cost effective solution. Please note that this kit includes two converters so one can be placed at the transmit end and one at the receive end.
Daktronics Requirements One 9-pin straight-through serial cable. Daktronics All-Sport Character Generator ( o If an All-Sport CG box needs to be purchased it is the responsibility of the school to do so. This can be purchased through Daktronics, but quantities are limited at times so we suggest you place your order as soon as possible. OES Requirements One 9-pin null modem serial cable. White Way Requirements One 9-pin straight-through serial cable. 8. Identification of Replay Technicians a. A minimum of two football replay technicians should be identified. b. One technician should serve as the primary technician and the other should serve as the backup technician. c. Qualifications to consider when identifying a football replay technician. i. The individual is comfortable with computers and Windows operating systems. ii. The individual possess basic computer troubleshooting skills. iii. The individual is comfortable with ipads and external hard drives. iv. The individual has general knowledge of football and its rules. v. The individual is able to commit approximately 7 hours on game day. vi. The individual is available to attend a majority if not all the home games. 9. Identification of a Sideline Assistant a. The replay system is designed to fit underneath the scorer s table and still provide enough leg room for the replay technician to sit at that spot at the scorer s table. 2. Identify a storage location for the replay system in between games. a. This location should be climate controlled and dry. 3. Video Feeds Run to the Replay System. Schools should be able to provide three HD/SDI feeds from the production room to the replay system for televised games. a. Program: The main video feed going to the system should be the program feed that goes out to the OVC Network. This feed mostly utilizes the mid court high game camera, displays game clock and score over the video, and has the ability to show replays of other angles. If it is not possible to send the program feed to the replay system, then just the video feed from the mid court high game camera will suffice. b. Under Basket: The next 2 inputs are usually a hand held camera under each basket, or a mounted camera near each basket (PTZ camera). The video feeds from these cameras can be routed to the production room and then to the replay system or the feeds can be routed directly to the replay system from the camera. c. Misc. Feeds: The system can receive four video angles, so if another camera is available it would be beneficial for that angle to be routed to the replay system as well. The fourth camera is usually a high tight mid court camera, slash or corner camera, or a low mid court camera. The video feeds from these cameras can be routed to the production room and then to the replay system or the feeds can be routed directly to the replay system from the camera. 4.
1. From the TV Truck Bay we recommend a minimum of six strands of fiber be run to the replay system. 2. From the camera locations we recommend a minimum of two strands of fiber be run from each camera location to the in-house production room. 3. We recommend a minimum of 6 strands of Fiber be run from the in-house production room to the replay system. iii. Fiber can be terminated in an enclosure or in a wall panel. c. Enclosures i. It is recommended that enclosures be installed at the Truck Bay and an area near the scorer s table. These enclosures house the Fiber and Fiber Converters and keep them safe from damage. ii. Wall Mount or Rack Mount Enclosures are available.
iii. Enclosures can be provided by the school or purchased through DVSport. Enclosures cost $1,000 for a pair (Truck Bay Enclosure and Replay Booth Enclosure) through DVSport. This cost does not include the fiber converters iv. Enclosures in the scorer s table area are typically installed on a wall under the bleachers. 5. In-House Camera Locations a. A minimum of three in-house cameras should be provided if TV is not present. i. High Midcourt Wide ii. Baseline Camera #1 (Under the Basket Handheld or Wall Mount Baseline Camera) iii.
