3 reparation & lace the TV on a solid surface. min. 1m CALE For ventilation, leave at least 5 cm free all around the TV. Do not place the TV on a carpet. To prevent any unsafe situations, do not place any ojects on top of the TV. Avoid heat, direct sunlight and exposure to rain or ater. é Insert the aerial plug firmly into the aerial socket x at the ack of the TV. Insert the mains plug in the all socket having a mains voltage of 220V- 240V. To prevent damaging the mains (AC) cord hich could cause a fire or electric shock, do not place the TV on the cord. Insert the 2 atteries supplied (Type R6-1,5V). ress the TV key to e sure your remote control is in the TV mode. The atteries supplied do not contain the heavy metals mercury and cadmium. The red lamp links every time you press a key on the remote control. When you sitch on your set for the first time, the menu LANGUAGE automatically appears on the screen.the explanation appears in different languages one at a time. The message EasyLink : Donloading... appears on the screen. The programme list of the video recorder is no the same as the one of the TV. If the TV is connected to a video recorder hich supports the NEXTVIEWLink function, the TV also automatically transfers the language and country selections to the video recorder. elect the menu language and country J MENU INTALLATION TITLE Menu language J MENU Menu TITLE language English J MENU Country TITLE United Kingdom First, select your language and country. & elect Menu Language and press the key. é elect your language and press the key. All TV channels are searched for and stored automatically. If a cale system hich roadcasts ACI (Automatic Channel Installation) or a TV channel transmitting a teletext page ith the frequencies and programme names of all the TV channels hich can e received, is detected, the search is stopped and a programme list appears. The programme list is automatically filled ith all the programme numers and names of the TV channels transmitted. It is possile that the cale company or the TV channel displays a roadcast selection menu. Layout and items are defined y the cale company or the TV channel. Make your choice ith the cursor and press the key. To exit from the menu press the key on the remote control. Go on to page 6. The frequency or the channel numer increases until a TV channel is found. Direct selection of a TV channel If you kno the frequency, the C- or -channel numer, enter it directly ith the digit keys 0 to 9. Ask for a list from your cale company or dealer, alternatively consult the Tale of frequencies on the inside ackcover of this handook. Fine tune In case of poor reception, you can improve the reception y adjusting the frequency ith the cursor left/right. ( To store your TV channel, select tore and press the key. Repeat the operation until all TV channels are allocated as you like. ress the key to return to the INTALLATION menu. elect Favourite TV channels Favourite programmes EXT1 EXT2 FRONT 0... No 1... Yes J 2... Yes No 3... No 4... Yes 5... After leaving the installation you can rose through the TV channels y pressing the - + keys. Only those TV channels hich are in the favourite list ill e displayed. Non-favourite TV channels can still e selected ith the digit keys. y default all stored channels are added to the favourite list. & elect Favourite programmes in the INTALLATION menu and press the key. é elect your favourite programme numer. elect Yes or No ith the cursor left/right. Repeat for every TV channel you ant to make a favourite or a non-favourite TV channel. ( ress the key to return to the INTALLATION menu. In order for NEXTVIEW to function properly, the first TV channel from the favourite list should also roadcast the correct local date and time via teletext. 6 Installation

The etup menu contains items that control the settings of the TV s functions, features, services and peripherals you may have connected. & Use the cursor in the up/don, left/right directions to select the menu item. é Use the key to activate. Use the key to return or sitch menu off. Digital sources (for future use) Define Decoder/Descramler programme numers If a decoder or a descramler is connected, see p. 18, you can define one or more programme numers as decoder programme numers. ress the cursor left/right to select the input used to connect to your decoder Off, EXT1 or EXT2. elect Off if you do not ant the selected programme numer eing activated as a decoder programme numer. elect EXT2 hen the decoder is connected to your EasyLink video recorder. When selecting the decoder, the message EasyLink: Donloading resets... appears on the screen. Information Line elect On and after the selection of a TV programme or after pressing the i key on the remote control, a TV channel hich roadcasts teletext may transmit the name of the TV channel, the programme name or another message.this is displayed on screen next to information aout the sound setting. When selected Off, only sound information is displayed after the selection of a TV channel or after pressing the i key. Factory settings elect Factory settings and press the key to restore picture and sound settings, predefined in the factory. Installation elect Installation and press the key to return immediately to the INTALLATION menu. To exit from the menu press the key repeatedly. Installation 7

8 Operation Use of the remote control elect peripherals ress this key repeatedly to select EXT1, EXT2 or FRONT, according to here you connected the peripherals (see p. 20). TV VCR DVD AT TUNER CD TAE CDR ress one of these keys to use the remote control directly in the TV, video recorder, DVD or satellite mode. A green indicator lights up. ress the same key again ithin 3 seconds to use the remote control in the mode indicated elo the key (tuner, CD, tape or CD-recordale). To sitch the TV on again, press - + or the digit keys. If your EasyLink video recorder has the system standy function and you press the standy key for 3 seconds, oth the TV and video recorder are sitched to standy. Your TV consumes energy in the standy mode. Energy consumption contriutes to air and ater pollution. We advise to sitch off your TV overnight instead of leaving it on standy.you save energy. Freeze To activate/de-activate the frozen picture or to hold the teletext picture. Q Incredile urround With stereo transmission, and hen Incredile urround is selected, it seems as though the loudspeakers are spread further apart from one another. ress this key to activate your choice, hen in the menus. Off harpness and Dynamic Contrast are controlled automatically On harpness, Dynamic Contrast and Noise Reduction are controlled automatically. ress the cursor in the up/don directions hile the selected Active Control setting information is on top of the screen. The Active Control menu appears. The picture settings are eing adapted continuously and automatically. The modified adjustments for Contrast, rightness, Colour, harpness,tint, Digital can and Dynamic Contrast are automatically stored for all TV channels. elect Factory settings in the etup menu to restore the predefined factory settings, see p. 7. Graphic Equalizer Here you can select the preferred sound setting hich corresponds ith the personal sound settings. Headphone volume ee Connect eripheral Equipment, p. 19 for the connection of the headphone. AVL (Automatic Volume Leveller) AVL automatically controls the volume level to avoid too large level differences, especially hen sitching to another programme or during commercial reaks. AVL ill reduce the dynamics of the sound.to maintain original dynamics, use the Delta volume feature. 10 Use of the menus Delta volume Here you may adjust the volume differences of each selected TV channel or external device separately. Use the - + keys to compare to the volume of other TV channels or externals.

In this ay you can prevent unauthorised use of your TV. An increasing numer of roadcasters are offering an extended programme guide service called NEXTVIEW. NEXTVIEW is a ne ay of presenting programme schedules and offers more features than common teletext. With NEXTVIEW it is possile to sho for instance all the movies coming tonight. oth facilities are integrated in this TV: NEXTVIEW and Teletext rogramme Guide. If a TV channel supports NEXTVIEW then the TV ill automatically present the NEXTVIEW programme schedule. If the TV channel supports just teletext, then the TV ill sitch automatically to Teletext Guide. oth facilities are offering the same functions: record, remind and info. Hoever in case of Teletext Guide the roadcaster is responsile if these functions are possile. You can search for the programmes you ant to atch up to 7 days in advance. It is also possile to search for a programme y theme, e.g. sport, movie, etc. Once a programme has een selected it can e tagged, to remind you, or to record on the video recorder automatically (provided the video recorder is equipped ith NEXTVIEWLink Level 2.0), once, daily, eekly or series.teletext Guide/NEXTVIEW also allos direct access to detailed information aout programmes if provided y the roadcaster. The roadcaster is responsile for the contents of the information. The TV is responsile for the capture of that information and for the presentation to the user. For each selected TV channel the programme guide page can e selected ith the key: - automatically if the selected TV channel supports services like DC (rogramme Delivery Control) or MI (Magazine Inventory age). - if automatic pre-selection is not possile then the index page is displayed and the proper programme guide page numer of the selected TV channel has to e entered ith the digit keys. The programme guide page ill e stored automatically only if it satisfies Video rogramming via Teletext (VT) requirements. Every time you press the key, the programme guide page of the selected TV channel ill e availale if the TV channel does not support NEXTVIEW. The default starting item ill e the current or next programme on the current TV channel. The THEME selection is only present if programmes in the TV guide have defined themes. Overvie The Overvie menu provides a list of programmes that are marked as reminders or to e recorded each day. When more than one programme to e recorded has an overlap in time, these programmes ill e marked y a red colour. After the programme has een roadcast, all items set for once ill e deleted from the list the folloing day.this menu can e used to change a reminder or recorder. Note: the TV ill automatically interpret the roadcast time (as shon on the teletext guide) of your selected programme into the correct local time and date. NEXTVIEW 13

If your video recorder is provided ith the EasyLink function, the eurocale supplied ith it should e connected to EXTERNAL 2 to enefit from the EasyLink functionality. EXT 1/2 1 Connect your digital equipment ith a eurocale 1 to one of the euroconnectors (EXT1 or EXT2), or ith a cinch cale to the VIDEO input at the right side of the TV (see illustration aove). Note: the lo quality of some digital picture material may e the cause of digital image distortion. In this case select Eco under the MART ICTURE a key on the remote control as this setting is intended to improve distorted picture quality. DVD L Headphone & Insert the plug into the headphone socket L at the right side of the TV. é ress on the remote control to sitch off the internal loudspeakers of the TV. The headphone impedance must e eteen 8 and 4000 Ohm. The headphone socket has a 3.5 mm jack. In the OUND menu select Headphone volume to adjust the headphone volume. ee p.10. Audio equipment / Amplifier AUDIO Connect the audio cales to the audio input of your audio equipment and to AUDIO L and R at the ack of your TV. When recording a programme from a peripheral connected to EXTERNAL 1 or FRONT, you can not select another TV programme on the screen. To atch TV programmes again, press the programme numer you ant to select tice. Attention: the recording is stopped and your video recorder sitches to standy. If you sitch to standy during recording of a programme from a peripheral connected to EXTERNAL 1 or FRONT, the linking lamp on the front of your TV indicates that you are still recording.the linking stops after the recording is finished. Record ith your video recorder ith NEXTVIEWLink If your video recorder is equipped ith NEXTVIEWLink, and you tagged one or more programmes to e recorded automatically in the NEXTVIEW mode, it is not necessary for the TV to e in the standy mode or sitched on for the recording to start. 22 Record

23 Tips Care of the screen Clean the TV ith a slightly damp soft cloth. Do not use arasive solvent as it can damage the TV screen. oor icture Have you selected the correct TV system? Is your TV or house aerial located too close to loudspeakers, non-earthed audio equipment or neon lights, etc.? Mountains or high uildings can cause doule pictures or ghost images. ometimes you can improve the picture quality y changing the direction of the aerial. Is the picture or teletext unrecognisale? Check if you have entered the correct frequency. ee Installation, p. 5. Are rightness and contrast out of adjustment? elect Factory settings in the etup menu, p. 7. ometimes poor picture quality is possile hen having activated an -VH camera or camcorder connected to the right side of your TV and another peripheral is connected to EXT1 or EXT2 at the same time. In this case sitch off one of the other peripherals. No picture Is the aerial connected properly? Are the plugs tightly connected in the aerial socket? Is the aerial cale in good condition and does it have suitale plugs? Are the connection facilities to a possile second TV in good condition? If in dout, consult your dealer. No sound No sound on any channel? Check the volume isn t at minimum. Is the sound interrupted ith the mute key? Remote control If your TV no longer responds to the remote control, the atteries may e dead. You can still use the M key and the -/+ keys at the top of your TV. Menu Have you selected the rong menu? ress the same key again to exit from the menu. No solution itch your TV off and then on again once. Never attempt to repair a defective TV yourself. Check ith your dealer or call a TV technician.
