Please come into the lobby of Truax Theatre on the night of Dress Rehearsal to pick up your Recital Program Voucher which enables each D.U. family to get a FREE Recital Keepsake Yearbook Program at the theater. This program voucher is the same as cash, and if lost, cannot be replaced. Additional programs will be available to purchase at the theater. A leaflet with the order of each cast will also be available to audience members. Recital tickets are non-returnable & non-exchangeable. *If you have not yet purchased your tickets we suggest you do so as soon as possible, as shows have sold out in years past! REMINDER: Student Award Presentation and Teacher Introductions will be presented during the intermission at the Saturday, July 15 th Matinee (noon) Performance.

IMPORTANT: ALL ACCOUNTS MUST BE CURRENT FOR STUDENT PARTICIPATION IN THE RECITAL! This includes July Tuition (due July 1 st ) and ANY other outstanding balances. MANDATORY DRESS REHEARSAL for both casts will be held at the Truax Performing Arts Theatre on Friday, July 14th beginning at 4:00pm for the American Tour Cast. The repeat numbers from the American Tour Cast do NOT need to stay for the International Tour Cast which will begin at approximately 6:30pm; only the NEW numbers will need to stay and rehearse. IMPORTANT: The American Tour Cast will run in sequential order, just like the actual recital order. Students are to report to the Truax Theatre at their scheduled time, dressed in their first costume with hair in the proper style, correct tights and shoes and all make-up and accessories. Students in only one number can sit with their parents in the theatre. Students in more than one number may want to go to the changing rooms in the back of the theatre so they can change their costumes. Professional pictures of our dress rehearsal will be taken, so it s important for all students to be dressed in their costumes and have the proper hair style, make-up, tights and dance shoes. (ie: NO curlers etc.) If a hat is to be worn, please make sure that it is secured firmly with bobby pins or elastic underneath the chin so that it will not fall off. Children in multiple numbers WILL have access to several rooms, which are located directly behind the theatre stage, for changing in and out of costumes. These rooms will be marked on Dress Rehearsal Day. Students who are in only one number may sit in the audience with their parents/class until they are called to come backstage, which is usually 3-4 numbers BEFORE their number is scheduled to perform on stage. During the actual recital performance, each class will be in their designated classrooms backstage. Please make sure your child is NOT wearing any nail polish or jewelry (other than that listed on the costume accessories sheet) for the recital performance or dress rehearsal. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CHILD S COSTUME HAS THEIR NAME WRITTEN IN IT, AS WELL AS THEIR TIGHTS, DANCE SHOES, DANCE BAG, COSTUME PIECES ETC.. Performers may watch the entire dress rehearsal, HOWEVER, they will NOT be permitted to enter the theater for the actual recital performance, unless they are dressed in regular street clothes and have a ticket. During the Dress Rehearsal, a D.U. Office Staff member WILL be in the lobby to sell tickets and answer any questions you may have. STUDIO POLICY: THE DRESS REHEARSAL IS MANDATORY! ALL PERFORMERS MUST ATTEND! It is of the utmost importance that all dancers are acquainted with the stage and lighting cues!! All dancers must be present for the rehearsal to operate smoothly!! Dancers that do not attend the dress rehearsal will not be allowed to perform in the actual recital!! NO Exceptions!! Also, ONLY parents and performers are permitted to attend the dress rehearsal. Please do not bring other family members and/or friends. If possible, young babies and toddlers are best left at home. ABSOLUTELY NO FOOD OR DRINK WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE THEATRE, LOBBY, OR BACKSTAGE. All food must be consumed outside. Please make sure that your child eats a meal before the dress rehearsal. Thank you! COSTUME ACCESSORIES: Please make sure that you have purchased the correct style and color of tights and dance shoes that was listed on the Recital Accessories Sheet that was e-mailed to all families. If you have not yet purchased these, please do so as soon as possible. If your child s costume has black pants, PLEASE make sure they wear black tights or thin black socks under the pants so their skin will not show while they are performing on stage.

STAGE MAKE-UP: The theater stage lighting is very different from normal lights. In order for students faces not to appear washed out while they re on stage, we recommend that all students wear neutral colored eye shadow (beige powder base w/ brown on outer corners of eyes) rose colored blush and rose lips unless otherwise instructed by your child s teacher. Please, NO colored eye shadow like blue, purple etc.. PICTURES: All photography and videotaping MUST be done at the dress rehearsal! NO photography of any type will be permitted during the actual performances. Both casts of our recital will be professionally taped. If the technical director sees any cameras or videos (including digital and cell phones) being used during the actual performances, he will send someone to take the equipment from you until the show is over. Not only is this very distracting for our performers, it is also very distracting to other people in the audience. Please respect the rules and regulations of the Truax Theatre and our studio and do not attempt to tape the shows. RECITAL DVDS: DVD s will be available to purchase at the Snaps DVD Booth which will be set up in the lobby of the theatre on the first day of the recital. After the recital, DVD s will not be available to purchase. TODDLERS & TICKETS: If, during the actual recital performance, you have a very young child and would like them to come out into the audience and watch the recital after they have performed, they must be dressed in regular street clothes, not their costume, and must have a ticket. Children may sit on their parents lap if they are under 3 and remain on the lap the entire performance; they must be small enough so that they do not block someone s view from behind. SIGN-UP FOR BACKSTAGE SUPERVISION: For students under the age of 10, parental backstage supervision is required. During the performance that you have purchased tickets to watch, you will want to relax and enjoy the entire show. This will be impossible if our students are not being supervised to the fullest. If you have any questions or do not understand how backstage signups work, please see the office staff. The backstage changing rooms will be clearly marked at the Truax Theatre are directly behind the theatre. Due to privacy and modesty concerns for the young ladies, we ask that only adult, female family members sign-up for supervising the female students. We will have a separate changing area for the male students and fathers. IMPORTANT! We ask that all backstage supervisors wear black or dark-colored attire. Light colors are easily visible from the audience, so we ask that you please help us out by wearing BLACK! For students over the age of 10, parents will need to make accommodations for their supervision. Either you can purchase a ticket for your older to child to sit and watch the recital after they have performed or you will need to have a family member supervise them backstage. Absolutely no students are to be left alone or are allowed to run around outside the theatre unsupervised! Please make sure that you have made the proper arrangements to have your child watched during the recital performances. Parents signed-up to help supervise must report to the theatre at least one-half hour prior to show time. Each parent is responsible for watching their child s class during the entire performance (from beginning of the show to the end). Each class will be required to have a minimum of 2-3 parents supervising them. Please remember that when you sign-up to watch the class for one of the shows, YOU are responsible for the well being and safety of those children. We expect each and every parent to take this responsibility very seriously, as safety is our #1 priority! We recommend that you bring books, games, toys, etc, to entertain the children. PLEASE DO NOT

ALLOW RUNNING OR LOUD DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR. Please remember, we are guests at the High School/Theatre, so please do not allow students to touch instruments, classroom materials, or chalkboards in the classrooms or write on the walls! A CD player may be brought for the students to practice their number while they are waiting. We understand that this is a big responsibility and will be a long weekend for everyone, but our recital is only one weekend per year. There will be a D.U. Representative sitting at a table in the main dressing room so parents can sign in and out their children. Again, as a parent of a young child, it is up to you, whether or not your child is to remain backstage in the dressing room with their class or if you want to bring them into the audience to sit with you after they have performed. Please just remember that for the show you are signed up to be a supervising parent, you cannot leave the backstage dressing room until every one of the students in your child s class has been picked up. In order to present the most professional show possible, all of our D.U. families must work together. A sincere thank you in advance for all of your help, support and cooperation! AFTER THE RECITAL: Please accompany all children in your group back to the assigned area where their parents can pick them up after the show. Parents supervising MUST stay until the last child in their group has been picked up. Parents, please pick-up your children immediately after the performance. LAST MINUTE REMINDERS! Please be sure all children have gone to the bathroom before it is time for their performance. Also, it is MANDATORY THAT ALL students wear cover-ups while walking around in costume. Students are not allowed to walk around the theatre in their costumes! We don t want our audience members to see the costumes until they are onstage! THEATRE POLICIES: Parents, please feed your child before arriving at the Theatre. *Please allow the children to only have WATER during the performance while they are backstage. A thermos with cool water is recommended. ALSO, CHILDREN ARE NOT TO BE LEFT UNATTENDED BETWEEN THE SHOWS!! THEY MUST BE PICKED UP AND TAKEN CARE OF DURING THE LUNCH BREAK BETWEEN OUR TWO SATURDAY PERFORMANCES!! Everyone MUST exit the theatre in between shows so the theatre can be cleaned for the next performance! Absolutely no food, soda, colored juices, etc. are allowed back stage or inside the theatre. Please remember to pick up all trash before leaving backstage areas, as we are under strict obligation to the school for maintaining each dressing room. THANK YOU! Dressing Rooms: We will be using several rooms at the Truax Performing Arts Theatre for our waiting/changing areas. WE ARE UNDER STRICT CONTRACT TO THE SCHOOL DISTRICT AND IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT WE DO NOT ALLOW FOOD IN THESE ROOMS AND THAT NOTHING IN THESE ROOMS IS DISTURBED. PLEASE remember to pick up all trash and personal belongings before you leave. If these rules are not followed, the studio will be fined. ABSOLUTELY NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ARE ALLOWED ON OR MAY BE CONSUMED ON ANY PORTION OF SCHOOL PROPERTY. In accordance with State and school regulations, a zero tolerance policy will be enforced with regards to alcoholic beverages of any type. ACTUAL PERFORMANCES: One of our stage crew ( D.U. runner ) will come for your group when we are about three numbers away from your actual number. ONLY SUPERVISING PARENTS will

be allowed to accompany their entire group to the backstage area. Only 3 supervising parents will be allowed into the backstage area when the children are waiting to perform and during the actual performance. Again, we ask that all backstage supervisors wear black or dark-colored clothing. Please try to keep your class as quiet as possible while they are waiting in the wings. After performing, supervising parents will take the class back to their dressing room. All children are expected to remain in their assigned area until the recital is completely over! DURING THE RECITAL PERFORMANCE: PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE WILL BE ABSOLUTELY NO ONE ALLOWED IN THE REAR OF THE THEATRE OR STANDING IN THE ISLES DURING ANY PART OF THE RECITAL PERFORMANCE. This is not only unprofessional, but is also against fire codes. People arriving late will need to wait until the number performing on stage has finished. Ushers will be posted at both doors into the theatre and these doors will remain closed during the actual performances. We are also asking that there be no loud shouting or calling of names during the performances, as this is very distracting to the performers and the audience as well as extremely unprofessional!! Please be respectful of all of our dancers! If any parent wishes to come in and out of the theatre to watch their child, they must present a ticket stub to the usher before re-entering theatre. ENTERING & EXITING THEATRE: Ushers will be posted at both entrances to the theatre. Upon handing tickets to the usher, every person will receive a small D.U. stamp on their wrist. This stamp must be shown for re-entry into the theatre. Every person entering the theatre MUST have a ticket/stamp. Due to the theatre s fire code policy, no one will be allowed to stand in the back or sides of the theatre. The doors to the theatre will REMAIN CLOSED while a number is onstage performing. Only in between numbers will audience members be allowed to re-enter the theatre. This policy will be strictly enforced and will minimize disturbances and make for a much more pleasurable and professional show for our families & audience members. It also maintains consistent lighting in the theatre while our show is being professionally videotaped, which cannot occur if the theatre door is being consistently opened. A TV monitor WILL be provided in the theatre lobby so that late-comers may view the performance while waiting for doors to be opened. WE ARE HERE TO HELP YOU! We understand that for 1 st time families, the first recital can be a bit overwhelming. Please see one of our office staff members during regular office hours if you do not understand any part of this memo! We encourage you to come see us and will be happy to go over all the recital instructions with you or answer any of your questions. Refreshments will be sold during intermission & after each performance in the concession stand! Flower Bouquets & New D.U. Dancewear will be available to purchase in the lobby! We will also have our DANCERS AGAINST CANCER fundraiser table set up in the lobby. There will be fairy wings, leotards, princess crowns etc.. ALL SALES will be donated to help dancers fighting cancer!
