BA in Acting, Fall 2018 A program supported by Chinese Government Scholarships-Silk Road Program About the Program Start Time September 2018 Degree Awarded Bachelor of Arts Major Acting Period 1+4 years (including 1-year Chinese language study) Taught in Chinese Aims of the Program 1. To provide the training that will be a lifelong foundation for a career in professional acting. 2. To promote the exchanges in art between China and other Eurasian countries. Courses Students will learn the basic courses in Acting during their first and second years, and choose the courses in Dance Theatre, Opera, Musical Theatre and Peking Opera during their third and fourth 1

years. The acting courses for the first and second years are as follow: Fundamentals of Acting(I) Creation tasks of performance arts and the qualities of actors, drama game practices, improvisational performance practice, and basic theory of performance. Fundamentals of Acting(II) Observing life, stage action, specified situation, practice of observing life, practice of performance creation or short sketch and basic theory of performance. Fundamentals of Acting(III) Literature works adaptation, stage event, conflict, relationship between different roles, creation practice according to adaptation of literature works and basic theory of performance. Acting Skill(I) Scripts analysis, role analysis, interior and exterior techniques for creating characters, performance creation theory. Acting Skill(II) Scripts analysis, role design and expression, creation of character s personality, Chinese and foreign fragments in ancient and modern times, script fragments of various styles and schools, and performance creation theories. Solfeggio Basic music theory, numbered musical notation, musical notation, melodic interval, Solfeggio, speed and rhythm. Vocal Music(I) Basic theory of vocal music, breathing and vocalization, singing practice and vocal works. Vocal Music(II) Basic theory of vocal music, formation of correct vocal habits, expression of singing and artistic process of vocal works. Speech Technique (I) Efficient application of basic line technique in language expression, artistic process of prosy and verse literature works, grasp and application of language expression approaches such as stress, pause, intonation etc., literature works analysis and practical application of line writing. 2

About The Central Academy of Drama The Central Academy of Drama was the first theatre higher educational institution of the People's Republic of China. Now it is affiliated to China's Ministry of Education and is ranked as one of the best top-level drama and stage arts institutions in China. The Central Academy of Drama is the head-quarter of China Alliance of Theatre Higher Educational Institutes, Asia Theatre Education Centre (ATEC) and World Theatre Education Alliance (WTEA). It is a world famous higher educational institute of arts, and holds the UNESCO CHAIR ON THEATRE EDUCATION. The history of the Central Academy of Drama dates back to more than 70 years, to April 10th, 1938, when Yan An Lu Xun Art College was established. The Central Academy of Drama opened officially in December, 1949 and held the inaugural conference on 2nd of April, 1950. Chairman Mao Zedong inscribed the official name in calligraphy. The Central Academy of Drama has two campuses, one is located at Dong Mianhua Hutong No. 39, Dongcheng District, and the other new one is located on Hong Fu Middle Rd No.4, Changping District. Area of these two campuses reaches 230,000 m2, and the construction area is about 180,000 m2. The Academy s pedagogic programs have been subdivided into Department of Acting, Department of Directing, Department of Stage Design, Department of Dramatic Literature, Department of Musical Theatre, Department of Peking Opera, Department of Western Opera, Department of Dance Drama, Department of Puppetry Theatre,Department of Theatre Pedagogy, Department of Theatre Management, Department of Film and TV Arts. Majors offered at the undergraduate level include: Acting, Directing, Art Design for Drama, Film & TV, Literature on Drama, Film & TV, Theatre Studies, and Broadcast & Anchoring. The Academy has first-class discipline master s degree and doctor s degree authorization centers in Studies of Drama (Film & TV), and Theory Studies of Art. The Academy also has post-doctoral research station for art studies. The Academy has the only state-level teaching team in acting, the only state-level characteristic major in directing, the only national innovative experimental zone for talents cultivation in musical acting, and the only state-level demonstration center for experimental teaching in Drama (Film & TV).
