Message from the President The Etobicoke Music Festival is proud to present a Chamber Music Concert to commemorate Chopin s 200 th Birthday Anniversary. The Concert will feature: Piano Works, Cello Sonata, Trio for Violin, Cello and Piano, Vocal Songs. Performers: Natalie Wong (Violin) Mahsa Madahian (Cello) Katerina Tchoubar (Vocal) Nadia Jacobchuk (Piano) We would like to invite you to the Concert, which will take place on Saturday, February 27 th, 2010 at 6:00 PM, at the Kingsway Baptist Church (41 Birchview Blvd, Etobicoke) For more details and Concert information, please visit: www.etobicokemusicfestival.org We hope to see you all there!! I would like to welcome you to our 4 th annual event, hosted by the Etobicoke Music Festival. As President, I have served the festival for four years. We continue to increase the number of talented participants every year and attract only the best adjudicators, thus enhancing the high quality of our Festival. I am heartened that very many of you love music, since music is a source of inspiration to the human spirit within everyone. Your hard work and dedication can take you to high levels of performance. I look forward to meeting many of the participants this year again. Our festival provides the opportunity, through competition for musicians with such amazing talent, to achieve excellence and to develop good character through music. The Final Festival Concert takes place this year on May 8, 2010, at 2:30 pm.. The Festival this year is dedicated to 200 th birthday anniversary of Chopin, to commemorate this we will sponsor a concert which will take place on February 27 th, 2010, at the Kingsway Baptist Church. Now there only remains for me, the opportunity of wishing all our performers the very best of luck in this time of preparation. 0. Rules and Regulations The Etobicoke Music Festival (further named the Festival ), will be held in Etobicoke (GTA). Festival days: April 23 May 8, 2010. Eligibility 1. No age limits will be imposed, except where indicated. Age is as of January 1 st, 2010. 2. The Festival shall be open to amateurs only, unless otherwise stated (any person receiving more than $1500 per annum for music services is regarded as a professional for the purpose of the Festival and may not enter.) 3. Students studying with an Adjudicator during the Festival year will not be eligible. Entries 1. Entries must be in writing on the form supplied (or a copy thereof) and must be postmarked no later than Monday, March 1, 2010 and accompanied by the prescribed entry fee. Entrée fees shall be those designed for each class in the Syllabus and cannot be refunded. 2. There will be an additional charge of $20 for NSF cheques. 3. The Festival reserves the right to accept or reject any entry form. 4. The schedule of the Festival will be sent to teachers only. 5. Mail Entries to: The Etobicoke Music Festival 59 Woodcrest Drive Toronto, ON M9A 4J3 Competitions 1. All Contestants must perform their program from memory regardless of Royal Conservatory Examination requirements. The use of music will result in adjudication only: no mark will be given. Exceptions: Piano Studies, Duets, Ensembles, String Sonatas, Winds. 2. No rehearsing is permitted on stage. 3. A piece may not be used in more than one class. 4. Contestants may enter once only in any class. 5. Contestants may enter any number of classes for which they qualify. 6. Contestants must enter at the grade level they are currently studying. 7. Contestants must supply an original copy of music to the Festival for the adjudicator on the day of the competition. 8. Instrumentalists must provide own accompanists and page turner (if needed). 9. Parents, teachers and contestants are not permitted to converse or approach the adjudicator during the Festival. 10. Decisions of the adjudicator and the awards of the Festival Board shall be final. 11. The Festival Board reserves the right to substitute or appoint additional adjudicators. 12. Adjudicators retain the right to award any award, or not to award at all. 13. Classes may be divided or combined at the discretion of the Festival board. 14. Contestants coached from the audience during the competitions will be disqualified. 15. Time limits MUST be observed where specified. All pieces must be played without repeats. Da Capos and Dal Segnos must be observed. 16. Any use of photocopied material by contestants or accompanists will result in disqualification. 17. The use of cameras or video recorders is not allowed during the performance or adjudication. 1 2

18. The Festival board will not be responsible for the loss or damage to musical instruments or other property. 19. If there are any complaints, the Contestant shall express them in writing and e-mail the Festival staff. Appropriate e-mail address can be found on www.etobicokemusicfestival.org. Awards All contestants will receive adjudication and marks will be assigned. Certificates will be issued at the time of the Festival session. To be eligible for a scholarship the contestant must have a mark of 85% or more. All scholarships and awards will be presented at the final concert in May 2010. The Festival Board may issue special distinction for the best students and teachers. 3 Section I Piano Part One Please read the Rules and Regulations to avoid disqualification.
