Her name means heavenly and divine in Latin; she is the daughter o Jupiter (the king o the gods) and likes to dwell in mountains and orests near her animal riends. Diana the Huntress is a ast and exciting concert opener written in a baroque style. Since most o the 6th note patterns stay on the same pitch allowing students to ocus on bow movement and rhythm and not worry about the let hand the piece is great practice or playing short note values. Rehearsal Tips: In the opening accented chords the beginning o notes should be played with a lot o weight ollowed by a very ast bow stroke. The note should be played like the shape o the accent with the greatest orce at the start o the sound then a rapid tapering toward the end. Tell students that the bow needs to be spring-loaded to produce an explosion o sound. M. 9 should sound like a Vivaldi concerto. The 6th notes should be played into the string with a smoother bow stroke and the 8th notes should have a slight baroque separation. In m. 5 the mood o the piece suddenly shits to a lighter more subdued tone. For maximum contrast bowing should be legato and the baroque spacing o earlier should now be smooth and connected. At m. 38 pay close attention to the hairpin dynamics which give this section a sense o ebb and low.
