Sponsorship opportunity opportunity The West Wycombe Chamber Music Festival, now in its eighth year, was created by Lawrence Power, the world renowned viola player. Each year Lawrence Power makes time in his busy international performance schedule to bring together international artists of the highest musical calibre to take part in this exclusive series of concerts. They are staged at the delightful Church of Saint Lawrence in its idyllic setting on West Wycombe Hill. The Festival also features a masterclass in which Lawrence coaches young viola players drawn from UK music colleges and from further afield - it's just another way in which he seeks to put something back into the community in which he grew up and started his music-making. The Festival is not self-financing and to ensure its continuation and progress the organisers are pleased to offer this opportunity for corporate and individual sponsors to lend their support to this very special concert series. Details of the Festival, our aims and objectives, the sponsorship and support options and benefits available are described in the following pages. We hope that you will choose to support this unique Festival.
2 West Wycombe Chamber Music Festival, 13-15 15 th Sept, 2018 Considered one of the leading violists of our day, Lawrence Power is the Founder and Artistic Director of the West Wycombe Chamber Music Festival. Our mission for the Festival is to be one of the most interesting, exciting and appealing, nonprofit, chamber music festivals in Europe, and one with its own unique setting and character. Our purpose is simply to connect people of all ages and cultures with the virtues of live classical music. I always wanted to find a way to bring the many wonderful top musicians I meet on my international travels to the special Church of St Lawrence in West Wycombe Lawrence Power, Founder and Artistic director. With the right local support we can develop and achieve our mission and have the festival sit alongside other prestigious events such as the Aldeburgh, Cheltenham and Lockenhaus Festivals. Foreword rd by Lawrence Power, artistic director I started the West Wycombe Chamber Music festival in September 2011 and it has since gone on to become a regular 3-day festival every September. I am fortunate to perform all over the world as a musician - recently at venues such as Carnegie Hall, The Proms, Musikverein Vienna and festivals in such diverse places as Salzburg, Verbier, São Paulo and Aldeburgh. Having grown up in this area and benefitted from the wonderful local music education, I always wanted to find a way to bring the many wonderful top musicians I meet on my international travels to the special Church of St Lawrence in West Wycombe. I'm very proud of what we have achieved over the last 7 years and the festival has now become such an important part of the year for myself and our special, loyal audience. We have welcomed such musicians as Mark Padmore, Natalie Clein, Michael Collins, Anthony Marwood, Maxim Rysanov, Paul Watkins, Guy Johnston, Jack Liebeck, Ruby Hughes, Richard Watkins, Simon Crawford Phillips and others. I genuinely believe it is one of the most exciting festivals in the country today. We provide a unique opportunity for local music lovers who would normally have to travel to London and beyond to hear this level of music making. I'm also very keen to attract a younger element to our audience with free tickets for under-18s and students.
3 In addition to the concerts, each year we invite young musicians to take part in our Masterclass. This has become very popular with students coming from UK music colleges and elsewhere. It is a great way to meet some wonderful young talents, some of whom have even gone on to perform at the Festival. As part of our purpose, this educational element is something that we very much want to build on in the coming years. Biography of Lawrence Power Considered one of the leading violists today, Lawrence combines a busy career performing as both soloist and chamber musician, frequently appearing on BBC Radio 3. He regularly performs as soloist with some of the world s greatest orchestras: at the 2017 Proms with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and Paavo Järvi, in New York with the Mostly Mozart Orchestra: also with the Bergen Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, London Philharmonic, Philharmonia, Royal Concertgebouw, Melbourne and São Paulo Orchestras. In the last year he has played in chamber recitals in San Francisco, Verbier Festival, London, Washington and Rotterdam. He has recorded extensively for the Hyperion label, his most recent recording being as a soloist in 'Harold in Italy' and other orchestral works with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and Andrew Manze, following a critically acclaimed recent disc of French Viola Music. He regularly collaborates with composers and has premiered works written for him by composers such as Esa-Pekka Salonen, James MacMillan, Thomas Larcher, Huw Watkins and Mark-Anthony Turnage. Future plans include appearances with the Rotterdam Philharmonic, Swedish Radio, Gothenburg SO, Warsaw Philharmonic as well as Artist residencies with Aalborg Symphony and Turner Simms Hall where he will be resident for two seasons. Lawrence has a strong commitment to teaching and holds a professorship at Zurich as well as teaching at the London music colleges and elsewhere in the UK Lawrence plays a viola by Antonio Brenzi from 1590. Your opportunity to support the WWCMF To achieve our mission and purpose we are offering local businesses the opportunity to support and sponsor the festival, giving exposure to our wide audience. In terms of developing the festival there are so many great, important artists we would love to invite, but we have to be able to pay them appropriately. In terms of goals for this, 10,000 would make a huge difference to us. It would allow us to go ahead and book artists with more certainty. It would also allow us to publicise the Festival on a bigger scale and produce professional programmes in which we can include advertisements for any interested sponsors. We can offer various levels of support, increasing your profile in a number of our promotional materials as well as call-outs during the concerts. We would be very happy to discuss further options depending on your chosen level of support. The table summarises our options. Please contact Jez Lofts (07772 595845), or Dick Morbey (01494 883112) for further information on support.
