Willy Wonka Character Descriptions These are not all the characters in the show, but they are the most prominent ones that have the most dialogue and music. Willy Wokna/Candy Man: is an enigmatic character: at once mysterious and mischievous but also charismatic. He is engaging and interesting and changes on a dime between funny and serious. Charlie: The role of Charlie Bucket is the emotional heart and soul of the musical. He has a lot of pluck and enthusiasm, while at the same time sweet and innocent. Think of a male Annie. Grandpa Joe: He is the grandpa we all wish we had. He is caring, patient, sweet, and always reminds Charlie to remain cheerful. He is kind and funny. Augustus Gloop: is the overachieving eater who represents the evils of eating too much. He has a lot of personality and is very spoiled by his mother. Augusts speaks with a German/Austrian accent. Mrs. Gloop: is Agustus mother who had overindulged her son with food. She is very overprotective and loves her son very much- she thinks he s the best child in the world. Mrs. Gloop speaks with a German/Austrian accent. Mike Teavee: is a TV junkie: he is addicted to video games, the internet, his phone, and any other mind-numbing technological device. Mike is bratty, loud, and obnoxious. He does not know the word no. Ms. Teavee: is like television moms from the old TV shows: think June Cleaver or Carol Brady. She s perfectly put together but a bit vacant. Violet Beauregarde: is a gum chewer extraordinare and is a blue-collar, middle class brat and has a very strong personality. She is a little bit on a tomboy. Violet speaks with a southern accent. Veruca Salt: is a wealthy, class-conscious, spoiled brat who speaks with a haughty, almost British accent. She is bossy, snotty, and thinks everyone should give her everything she wants. She demands everyone s attention. Phineous Trout: a local TV reporter who interviews all of the Golden Ticket winners. He is energetic, and has a TV Reporter voice. Mr. and Mrs. Bucket: Charlie s parents who are very loving and nurturing people. They are very poor so everything the have they share with Charlie s grandparents. They live in a very small house and are dressed in shabby clothes, but they try their best.
WILLY WONKA AUDITION MONOLOGUES Please read the character descriptions on the previous page, then choose one of these monologues and prepare it for your audition. It is always more impressive when an audition is memorized. Willy Wonka: And here we have the chocolate Smelting Room-- where thousands of miles of copper pipe twist through the earth, carefully chilling the chocolate to a precise temperature perfect for dipping strawberries. No matter how tempting and isn t it deliciously tempting? Do not TOUCH the chocolate! It will instantly harden like cement. And over there, my friends, is an oompa-loompa from Loompaland. Charlie: Mmmm It s so good! A perfect blend of Belgian Dark Chocolate and New World light, with subtle overtones of Moroccan espresso. Wonka s a genius! (sighs) Do you think I could have one more? I ll pay for it. I think this one I ll share with my family Grandpa Joe likes the Whipple-Scrumptious Fudgemallow Delight, but Grandma Josephina likes the Nut-ariffic. Veruca Salt: Excuse me, Mr. Wonka, I just love your hat! It really sets off your eyes, but of course you have great taste. You know, I would simply adore a pink candy boat and maybe one of those sweet little oompa-loompas Mr. Wonka, did you hear me? I said I WANT a PINK CANDY BOAT! AND an OOMPA-LOOMPA! And if you don t give it to me I am going to scream! And I will scream and scream and scream until I get my way! DID YOU HEAR ME?! Daddy, he s not listening to me! (stomps feet) Violet Beauregarde: (While chomping loudly, smacking lips) I m a gum chewer normally, but when I heard about Wonka s contest, I laid off the gum and switched to candy bars. Now, of course, I m right back on gum. In fact, I ve been working on this piece for over three months solid. I ve beaten the world record set by my best friend, Cornelia Prinzmetel. Hi, Cornelia listen to this! (chews loudly) That s the sound of you losing! Mike Teavee: (Playing video game while talking) Shut your pie-hoe toots! Didn t I tell you not to interrupt! This is the best part! Crack! Smack! Whack! Dead. Did you see him die? That was so totally AWESOME! Yeah I got a golden ticket, big deal! Means I m gonna miss at least an hour of my favorite show! Mrs. Gloop:(In a german accent) Ya, I just knew my little snausage-vausage Augustus vould find das Golden Ticket! He eats so much candy-vandy that it vas almost impossible for him not to find one! In fact, you could say ve ve been training him for this day ever since our little pudgy-vudgey vas born! Phineous Trout: Ladies and Gentlemen, Wonka bar sales are up to over two hundred thousand an hour and this JUST IN. The fourth Golden Ticket has been located in Television City, California, leaving only the fifth and final ticket to be found! We re live at the home of Mike Teavee, the finder of the golden ticket. Here s Mrs. Teavee now!
