Waldron s Studio 88 s Tuesday Homeschool Co-Op Winter 2019 Class Descriptions Preschool Adventure Circle and Creative Play Begin our co-op day with some creative free play, an opening song or two, and a sensory-rich seasonal adventure circle, where we will incorporate plenty of grounding activities designed to get the kids' bodies and minds integrated and ready to learn! This class pairs nicely with Seasonal Stories and Crafts for the preschool set, and is also a nice opening to the day for 6 year olds before settling in for a more academic day. This class is scheduled to run from 10:05-10:55 as follows: 10:05-10:25 arrival and constructive play Note from the teacher: Feel free to arrive anytime in that range. I will have a teenager available to assist with managing parking issues, so don't worry about a full lot, I will send more detailed info to registrants before the first class. 10:25-10:30 songs and centered breathing activity 10:30-10:55 adventure circle (songs, chants, movement, and finger plays catered to sensory grounding and integration, preparing us to focus on story and crafts/activities) Ages 3-6 (2 years welcome with Parent Assistance). 12 Student Maximum Teacher: Shelley Wurst Seasonal Stories and Crafts Join us with your littles for a seasonally appropriate story, a related movement activity, and a craft each Tuesday morning this session! This class pairs nicely with Adventure Circle and Creative Play. (Highly recommended: a quick, nutritious snack, like a piece of fruit or half sandwich, in the 10-minute break previous to this class.) Come explore and introduce your child to the world of music! Parents welcome and encouraged to participate at no charge. Language Arts American Sign Language Over the course of the 8 week session, students will learn basic concepts of American Sign Language while incorporating aspects of deaf culture. The class will cover fingerspelling, basic signs, and beginning grammar concepts. A perfect course for anyone interested in learning the fundamentals of American Sign Language! For those who have taken this course previously, there will be some review as well as many new signs and concepts not yet covered this year! Ages 7+. Minimum of 4 students, Maximum of 15 students. Teacher: Teresa Bielecki Once Upon A Story As long as there have been people, there have been stories! Together, we will read and explore timeless Fairytales and Folklore to identify key elements (characters, setting, plot) and use those elements to create our own stories and tales! Classes will consist of read-together and craft-based projects adaptable for all levels. From puppet-heroes to string-art plot lines, this class will take creativity to the next level and bring the world of your imagination to life! $10 Materials Fee Ages 6+. Minimum of 4 students, Maximum of 12 students. Teacher: Teresa Bielecki Drama This introductory drama class will focus on a variety of theatrical genres and techniques. Together we will foster a creative, cooperative, and safe space for all interested students. We will share in theatrical exercises and improv games as well as work toward a complete performance. Over the course of the Winter and Fall Sessions students will create a play in its entirety, from backdrop to props to performance. Our play will be determined by enrollment and participants. Students are invited to participate in either on-stage and/or off-stage rolls. New this year, the Music for A Show class will provide musical accompaniment for the performance! In order to create a finished product, the classes will work on the final play over two sessions, giving only a possible preview at the Winter share day. Ages 6+. Dungeons & Dragons Learn the rules and mechanics of the popular tabletop role playing game, Dungeons & Dragons, as an experienced teen Game Master leads students through character creation and role playing scenarios. Two (2) hours to provide adequate time for imaginative adventuring each week! Ages 9+ (teens welcome) Minimum of 3 Students, Maximum of 7 students. Teacher: Gabe Wurst Music Music for A Show New This Year! Take music to the next level! This class will expand on concepts learned in All Things Music as we work together to create and perform music to accompany the Drama production! Students will explore musical themes, atmosphere, and mood, work together to create music, as well as continue to learn basic music reading, theory, and concepts. Using instruments and our voices, Music for A Show is perfect for young musicians interested in stretching their musical minds and creative spirits! Along with Drama, our final performance will be completed over two sessions with a potential preview for Winter share day. Students from this class will also be given optional time to work on backdrops with the Drama class, making it ideal for students to continue to participate backstage while adding a new level on-stage. We will explore the works of composers through the ages! From Beethoven to present day, we will listen to the sounds of history and create music inspired by the Masters using instruments relevant to the time period. This hands- and ears-on experience is perfect for any budding musician! All Things Music Learn to read and understand the universal language of music. This is an all-inclusive music class that will cover a little bit of everything. Students will sing, play a variety of instruments, learn theory and technique, music history, and more! This is the perfect intro to music for students who are beginners. Students will explore the work of different composers, learn the basics of music reading, as well as develop a sense of rhythm and pitch accuracy through the use of solfège. Ages 6+, Minimum of 5 students, Maximum of 15 students. Teacher: Derek Waldron Group Music Classes Piano, Guitar, Ukulele These introductory classes will put a fun and creative spin on learning the fundamentals of playing the different instruments. As a group, we will discuss and learn proper playing techniques, basic music theory, as well as playing songs both individually and as a group. These classes are geared toward beginning musicians without prior knowledge of the instrument. Ukulele and Guitar: Students must bring their own instruments. Each semester will focus on different elements and explore new projects. This is an excellent class to lay the foundation for more specialized art instruction and to give your child a chance to discover what inspires them. Art With the Masters New This Year! Explore art history through the works of the masters! Ever wonder what makes a Monet a Monet? Find out in this engaging class. We will explore the works of Leonardo davinci, Johannes Vermeer, Claude Monet, and Keith Haring and create our own original pieces inspired by their masterworks. For the richest art history experience, take this class in conjunction with Music With The Masters as the classes have been designed to work concurrently. $15 Materials Fee Ages 8+. Minimum of 4 students, Maximum of 12 students. Teacher: Verity Klassen Poured Paint New This Year! Poured Painting is an art practice where you gather different acrylic paints and pour them on canvases/blank surfaces to create abstract art. We will be starting with small boards, upgrading to larger ones, using negative spaces, and decorating mugs/vases. Students will be required to provide their own materials including some paints, canvases, mugs, etc. A list will be provided directly to participants. Students will need to bring smocks/paint clothes. Ages 7+. Minimum of 4 students, Maximum of 12 students. Teacher: Beckett Eyre Jewelry Making In this class, we will learn the basics of artisanal jewelry work: bead knotting, wire stone wrapping, crimping, working with memory wire, and more! Projects will include adjustable wrist malas, gemstone bracelets, and necklaces. Children will need to provide basic supplies a list of that supplies will be provided directly to registered participants. Ages 9-12, Minimum of 5 Students, Maximum of 12 Students Teacher: Sarah Eyre Art Journaling Create a personal journal filled with a combination of art, imagery and words. A variety of media and techniques will be explored in this fun, creative class. $10 Materials Fee Ages 9+ Students ages 6-8 are welcome to attend with an adult partner. Drop-in Art Studio Come use our supplies to create art weekly (or whatever weeks you are feeling like arting!). Everyone is an artist!! (Direct instruction is not provided in this class, it is open studio time for students to follow their own creative desires.) Ages 8 & up, younger ok with adult partner Cost: $1 per sheet of paper used, payable in cash to at the time of class.
