About University Park City of University Park Special Events 2014 University Park is an affluent and well-educated residential community of 23,068 residents. It s located approximately five miles north of downtown Dallas. Home of Southern Methodist University, the city is known for its attractive homes, beautiful parks, and numerous churches. Key Resident/Participant Demographics Event sponsorship provides the opportunity to build a relationship with a targeted group of consumers who are extremely active in the Dallas marketplace. The average age of a University Park resident is 29.7. Consisting of 5,291 families and 8,005 households, single-family homes comprise 79% of University Park s 3.73 square miles. The average single-family home in University Park is valued at $1,093,015, with an average household income of $200,000. More than 80% of the community s adults have a college degree, 33% have a post-graduate degree. Park Enhancements & Expanded Special Events Calendar University Park has eight primary parks and an Aquatic Center. Funded by the City s Capital Improvements Program, all the venues that host the City s various special s have been substantially upgraded in the past five years. In conjunction with improvements made at the various parks, the City has increased its roster of annual special s. Sponsorship Opportunities Snider Plaza Tree Lighting Program - November Scheduled for Sunday, November 16, 2014, from 1-7 p.m., residents gather in University Park s Snider Plaza to celebrate the coming holiday season. The festivities include live holiday carols and dance performances on a stage near the Plaza s famous fountain. The holiday tree is illuminated to cap the day s activities. A signature in University Park, the tree lighting draws approximately 5000 attendees. Other Over 25 food vendors present Pictures with Santa Various children s activities Event costs have grown to approximately $30,000. In past years Signature Sponsors each provided $5,000. Event sponsors receive recognition through various forms of advertising: Lovers Lane - exposure to 40,000+ vehicles per day for two weeks prior to Event Posters at municipal buildings Sponsors are recognized by MC during the Goar Park Eggstravaganza April University Park will host the annual Eggstravaganza on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Caruth Park from 9 a.m. to noon. Children from toddlers to 8-year-olds race to pick up 6,000 plastic eggs filled with candy. The attracts up to 800 children, parents and grandparents. Event sponsors will receive recognition through various forms of advertising: Lovers Lane - exposure to 40,000+ vehicles per day for two weeks prior to Posters at municipal buildings Sponsors are recognized by MC during the Children s Fishing Derby - June University Park will host the annual Children s Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Caruth Park from 9 a.m. to noon. The fishing derby provides children the opportunity to experience the fun of fishing in an urban park setting. The draws approximately 800 participants of all ages. Pond is stocked with over 500 pounds of catfish Catch & Release Prizes are awarded every hour for the largest and smallest fish caught DJ provides music and announcements University Park Public Library provides storytelling activities for young children Decorative fishing hats are provided for each child in attendance Free food is provided to everyone in attendance: Hot dogs, chips and lemonade The costs approximately $5,000. Lovers Lane - exposure to 40,000+ vehicles per day for two weeks prior to Posters at municipal buildings Sponsors are recognized several times during the July 4 Firecracker 5K Fun Run University Park will host the annual July 4 Firecracker Fun Run on Friday, July 4, 2014 at Curtis Park. Registration is through the Parks Department with -day registration at the park beginning at 6 a.m. The race starts at 7 a.m. Pre-registration is $15 and registration the day of the is $20. Children 12 years and under will be admitted free of charge. All participants will be given a commemorative t-shirt. Prizes are awarded for best times for men, women and children. After the, a brief ceremony recognizes race winners and our sponsors. Food and beverages are provided at the beginning and end of the race. The Fun Run averages 450 participants and is for all ages and skill levels. The costs approximately $4,000. Sponsorships cover the cost for the t-shirts, race supervision, food and drinks. Event sponsors will receive recognition through various forms of advertising: Lovers Lane - exposure to 40,000+ vehicles per day for two weeks prior to Sponsor logo on t-shirt Sponsors are provided booth space at /recognition at Dive-In Movies Holmes Aquatic Center Presented on three Friday nights during the summer, moviegoers watch Hollywood hits in the pool at the Holmes Aquatic Center. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Moviegoers are admitted beginning at 9 p.m. Showtime is 9:30 p.m. The 4

pool s snack bar is open for each show and lifeguards are on duty. The program s original intent was to give parents a safe place to drop children off while they went out to dinner. Now, many parents attend the movies with their children making it a family night out. Each movie hosts approximately 300 people. The three movie evenings cost approximately $4,000. Sponsorships cover costs for renting the movies from approved distributors, plus rental of the screen and sound system. Sponsors will receive recognition through various forms of advertising: Event Banners at the pool all summer Over 3,200 season pass holders Sponsors are recognized several times during the Movies in the Park Spring & Fall Enjoy a movie under the stars in beautiful Goar Park. Each spring and fall, the Park Department hosts a Movie-in-the-Park. The fun begins at 6 p.m. with various activities for children. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Drinks and popcorn are provided. The movie and all activities are free. Event dates and movie titles are announced several weeks in advance. Each movie draws approximately 500 people. Food Truck service available Free popcorn and soft drinks Varied movie themes for all ages Bounce houses for the children The costs approximately $5,000 for the two movies. Sponsorships cover the cost for renting the movies from an approved distributor, plus rental of the screen and sound system and bounce houses. Event sponsors will receive recognition through various forms of advertising: Event Banners at key intersections Vasser and Turtle Creek and Dickens and Lovers Lane - exposure to 40,000+ vehicles per day for two weeks prior to Poster located at municipal buildings 5

Sponsors are recognized several times during the Doggie Splash Day at Holmes Aquatic Center September The City of University Park invites all dogs and their owners to this year s annual Doggie Splash Day on Saturday, September 6, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Holmes Aquatic Center. Dogs swim free, owners will pay $5 and all other spectators will be charged $1. This is a great opportunity for dogs and their owners to cool off, compete for prizes and just play at the pool! Activities include contests and access to the children s wading pool and the large 50-meter pool. To assure that everyone in attendance has a safe and enjoyable, all dogs are required to show proof of current vaccinations and must be accompanied by a responsible person 16 and older. Aggressive or socially awkward dogs may be asked to leave. Lifeguards will be on duty, so dog owners are invited to swim with their pets if desired. This is limited to University Park residents and individuals enrolled within HPISD boundaries. Registration is required and will be limited to the first 100 dogs registered. A portion of the proceeds for this will go to the Take Me Home Pet Rescue organization in Richardson, Texas. Contests will include a doggie swim suit contest, dog paddle race and retrieving contest Concessions will be available for purchase DJ provides music and announcements Elvis will be in the building! 2013 had more than 300 participants The costs approximately $3,000. Sponsorships begin at $500. Sponsors cover pool operation costs, prizes, DJ and entertainment. Posters at municipal buildings and local businesses to interact with public Sponsors are recognized several times during the Arbor Day Celebration - November To celebrate Arbor Day, the Park Department, with help from elementary school students from the Highland Park Independent School District, plants a tree in one of the City s parks. Since 1982, through the City s Trees for Town program, residents have purchased more than 3,300 trees for front and side parkway areas (the grassy area between the sidewalk and curb) throughout the community. The Park Department also has an ongoing tree replacement program that involves the City s eight main parks and other public tree-lined areas. The Arbor Day will take place on Friday, November 14, 2014 at Smith Park. 5 th grade students from Hyer Elementary School will assist the City this year. Tree Planting Onsite arts and crafts project for students Proclamation from the Mayor The costs approximately $1,000 for the purchase of the tree, supplies and snacks.
