Sponsorship Opportunities Snider Plaza Tree Lighting Program - November Scheduled for Sunday, November 16, 2014, from 1-7 p.m., residents gather in University Park s Snider Plaza to celebrate the coming holiday season. The festivities include live holiday carols and dance performances on a stage near the Plaza s famous fountain. The holiday tree is illuminated to cap the day s activities. A signature in University Park, the tree lighting draws approximately 5000 attendees. Lovers Lane - exposure to 40,000+ vehicles per day for two weeks prior to Posters at municipal buildings Sponsors are recognized several times during the July 4 Firecracker 5K Fun Run University Park will host the annual July 4 Firecracker Fun Run on Friday, July 4, 2014 at Curtis Park. Registration is through the Parks Department with -day registration at the park beginning at 6 a.m. The race starts at 7 a.m. Pre-registration is $15 and registration the day of the is $20. Children 12 years and under will be admitted free of charge. All participants will be given a commemorative t-shirt. Prizes are awarded for best times for men, women and children. After the, a brief ceremony recognizes race winners and our sponsors. Food and beverages are provided at the beginning and end of the race. pool s snack bar is open for each show and lifeguards are on duty. The program s original intent was to give parents a safe place to drop children off while they went out to dinner. Now, many parents attend the movies with their children making it a family night out. Each movie hosts approximately 300 people. The three movie evenings cost approximately $4,000. Sponsorships cover costs for renting the movies from approved distributors, plus rental of the screen and sound system. Each spring and fall, the Park Department hosts a Movie-in-the-Park. The fun begins at 6 p.m. with various activities for children. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Drinks and popcorn are provided. The movie and all activities are free. Event dates and movie titles are announced several weeks in advance. Each movie draws approximately 500 people. Sponsors are recognized several times during the Doggie Splash Day at Holmes Aquatic Center September The City of University Park invites all dogs and their owners to this year s annual Doggie Splash Day on Saturday, September 6, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Holmes Aquatic Center. Dogs swim free, owners will pay $5 and all other spectators will be charged $1. This is a great opportunity for dogs and their owners to cool off, compete for prizes and just play at the pool! Activities include contests and access to the children s wading pool and the large 50-meter pool. To assure that everyone in attendance has a safe and enjoyable, all dogs are required to show proof of current vaccinations and must be accompanied by a responsible person 16 and older. Aggressive or socially awkward dogs may be asked to leave. Lifeguards will be on duty, so dog owners are invited to swim with their pets if desired. This is limited to University Park residents and individuals enrolled within HPISD boundaries. Registration is required and will be limited to the first 100 dogs registered. A portion of the proceeds for this will go to the Take Me Home Pet Rescue organization in Richardson, Texas. Posters at municipal buildings and local businesses to interact with public Sponsors are recognized several times during the Arbor Day Celebration - November To celebrate Arbor Day, the Park Department, with help from elementary school students from the Highland Park Independent School District, plants a tree in one of the City s parks. Since 1982, through the City s Trees for Town program, residents have purchased more than 3,300 trees for front and side parkway areas (the grassy area between the sidewalk and curb) throughout the community. The Park Department also has an ongoing tree replacement program that involves the City s eight main parks and other public tree-lined areas. The Arbor Day will take place on Friday, November 14, 2014 at Smith Park. 5 th grade students from Hyer Elementary School will assist the City this year.
