COSTA MESA, CA Segerstrom Center for the Arts proudly presents Pasek And Paul: Up Close and Personal with Special Guests, an exclusive one-night-only event featuring the acclaimed Tony Award - winning duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul on January 7, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. Pasek and Paul wrote the music and lyrics for Dear Evan Hansen, the winner of six 2017 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score and the Grammy for Best Musical Theatre Album.
Pasek and Paul: Up Close and Personal with Special Guests NEWS 2/5 It will be a star-powered evening during which the audience will have a rare opportunity to get to know the personalities behind one of the entertainment world s most celebrated creative partnerships through conversation and Q&A. Joined by special guests to be announced later, audiences can also expect to hear selections from the pair s esteemed volume of work which also includes Academy Award -winning compositions for hit films La La Land and The Greatest Showman. American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) Director of Musical Theatre Michael A. Kerker will moderate the evening, as he has for Segerstrom Center special evenings with Stephen Sondheim, Jerry Herman, and Barbara Cook. A limited number of VIP tickets of $1,000, $600 and $300 are available which offer opportunities to meet Pasek and Paul and include a donation to The ASCAP Foundation. There will be eight (8) $1,000 VIP tickets, which include prestige seating at the performance and seating at Pasek and Paul s table during an elegant post-performance dinner in Segerstrom Center s Leatherby s Café Rouge. Twenty (20) $600 tickets include prestige seating for the performance and the post-performance dinner. Seventy-four (74) $300 VIP tickets include a pre-performance meet-and-greet with Pasek and Paul and prime seating at the performance. All VIP guests will receive an autographed copy of Dear Evan Hansen, the novel, written by Val Emmich, Steven Levenson, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Oscar, Grammy, Tony and Golden Globe Award-winning songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are best known for their work on Dear Evan Hansen, La La Land and The Greatest Showman. They composed the score for the critical and box office hit, six-time Tony Award -winning Dear Evan Hansen. Their highly acclaimed original music also received an Obie Award, a Drama Desk Award, and the Tony Award for Best Score. The show comes to Segerstrom Center January 1 13, 2019. The pair s songs City of Stars and Audition (The Fools Who Dream) from La La Land were both nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song. City of Stars garnered both the Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Original Song in a Motion Picture. Pasek and Paul most recently won the 2018 Golden Globe for Best Original Song for This Is Me from The Greatest Showman, which was also nominated for the 2018 Academy Award for Best Original Song. Upcoming projects include the live-action movie musicals Aladdin and Snow White at Disney, and original animated musical Foster at Fox Animation/Blue Sky Studios.
Pasek and Paul: Up Close and Personal with Special Guests NEWS 3/5 Their albums for Dear Evan Hansen, La La Land, and The Greatest Showman appeared in the top 10 of the Billboard 200, the latter of which held the #1 spot for multiple weeks in a row. The Dear Evan Hansen Original Broadway Cast Recording won the 2018 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, and The Greatest Showman Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, which rose to #1 on itunes in over 80 countries, is certified Gold in the US, and Platinum in the UK and Australia. Pasek and Paul had their Broadway debut in 2012 with their Tony -nominated score for the Broadway musical A Christmas Story, an adaptation of the classic holiday film, further adapted into a live telecast for FOX in 2017. In 2013, they contributed several songs to NBC s Smash, and received great acclaim for their musical Dogfight which was awarded Off-Broadway s highest honor, the Lucille Lortel Award for Best New Musical. Their earlier theater credits include the children s musical James and the Giant Peach and the popular song cycle Edges. Pasek and Paul went on to receive a Daytime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Special Class Short Format Daytime Program for the song Unlimited, featured in an Old Navy YouTube campaign. In 2017, the songwriting duo composed a song for the CW s musical episode of The Flash, and also wrote Get Back Up Again for the DreamWorks animated film Trolls. Among their numerous honors, they were recognized by the ASCAP Foundation with the 2016 Harold Adamson Lyric Award and the 2011 Richard Rodgers New Horizons Award, and in 2007 became the youngest winners ever of the famed Jonathan Larson Award for most promising musical theater songwriters. Both Pasek and Paul are graduates of the University of Michigan Musical Theatre Program and currently serve on the Board of Directors for the Dramatists Guild Foundation.
