Dear Parents and Guardians, We are so excited to be presenting the enchanting musical, Disney s Beauty and the Beast this Spring! The leadership team is already working hard and planning for this show. We cannot wait to have the students join us in this wonderful adventure! We are happy to invite 4 th and 5 th graders to audition for and take part in our production of Beauty and the Beast. Their singing, acting and dancing will be welcome roles for some of our large ensemble numbers both as townspeople and castle servants (napkins, flatware, etc.). Beauty and the Beast will be performed March 14 th, 15 th, and 16 th, 2019. Audition Information: We are looking forward to seeing your child during our auditions! Auditions will be held Thursday, October 25 th and will include a choreography and singing portion. Your elementary child will sign up for a 30-minute audition slot on Thursday the 25 th. He or she will not need to stay for the entire duration of auditions (3:30-7:30 PM) but will be permitted to leave once they have completed his or her choreography and singing portions. Preferences for audition times/dates will be honored in the order received. The directors will assign audition times and post them outside the FAC music room. At the beginning of your child s audition time slot, they will participate in a group choreography portion. After the choreography audition, your child will be called individually to present his or her song cut from the musical (information also included in this packet). He or she may also be asked to sing a few scales or note patterns. A video clip of a short choreography for auditions will soon be available to your child. The cast list will be posted Thursday, November 1 st. Audition Form: Please help your child fill out the attached audition form accurately. Please return the audition form to Mrs. Martin no later than Friday, October 19 th. Making the Commitment: We are so excited to dive into the musical with these talented students! But, a production of this magnitude will require a time commitment. When the cast list is posted, students will receive a schedule noting the days and times they are expected to be at rehearsal. Most weekday rehearsals will run from 3:15-5:00 or 5:30 PM. We will do our best to work around known student conflicts. However, all actors will be expected to attend the assigned rehearsals. In November and December, students will be primarily engaged in music rehearsals. During this time, elementary students may be called once a week to rehearse their ensemble songs (with occasional Saturday music rehearsals). Then, as we come back to school in January, students will participate in blocking and choreography rehearsals of the ensemble numbers. How exciting it will be to watch this story come to life in rehearsals! This production is not only a time commitment, but also a service commitment. We need students and parents of the cast to be involved in all the aspects of making the stage come to life. This can include a variety of areas, such as: assisting of morning breakfast sales in the AAC, the building and painting of sets, gathering and making of costumes and props, contributing food for potluck meals, make-up and hairstyle help during dress rehearsals and performances, stage managing, selling tickets at the door, wrapping and selling flowers, selling concessions during intermission, chaperoning the cast when they are not on stage, and other volunteer areas. We 2

need students and parents to serve in all these capacities, and we ll need parents to help coordinate each of these areas. Another commitment that is needed is a financial one. Much of the income needed to pay for such a production comes from the selling of advertisements for the playbill. Attached is a copy of the form used to mail or take to vendors to procure ads. This form is also used for families and friends to place messages and/or photos of their child in the playbill. We ask each family to commit to selling a minimum of $125 in ads or messages. Participation Fee: Finally, all families are required to pay a $50 participation fee. This fee helps defray some of the production costs and other materials (supplies, royalty rights, t-shirts, etc.) A script will be provided with no additional cost. However, a $25 fee will be charged if the script has been damaged or lost. Tech Week: The final week of rehearsals is Tech Week, which runs Saturday, March 9 th Wednesday March 13 th (with the exception of Sunday). Students should plan on being in rehearsals until 9:00 PM each week night. All cast/crew members are required to be at every Tech Week rehearsal until dismissed. We re looking forward to telling this tale as old as time with your child! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me! In Christ Alone, Melissa Martin, Musical Director Melissa.martin@csagh.org IMPORTANT DATES: Friday, October 19 th Thursday, October 25 th Thursday, November 1 st Thursday, November 8 th Saturday, March 9 th Monday-Wednesday, March 11 th -13 th Thursday, March 14 th Friday, March 15 th Saturday, March 16 th Completed Audition Forms Returned to Mrs. Martin Elementary Auditions Cast List Posted, Rehearsal Schedule available Mandatory Cast/Parent Meeting 5:15 PM Mandatory Saturday Dress Rehearsal Tech Week Mandatory Rehearsals until 8/9 PM Performance 7:00 PM* Performance 7:00 PM* Performance 1:00 PM & 6:00 PM* * Tentative Performance Time 3

Audition Song Information Please sing one of the selections from the list below. We will provide accompaniment for the audition. Because of copyright laws, we cannot provide copies of each song. However, you will find YouTube links provided for you with designated cuts. This will allow you to listen to both the original Broadway cast and the accompaniment with which to practice. Please also have your son or daughter write their name on the sheet provided (outside the FAC music room) which will allow them access to a digital copy of this packet. This will allow them to click and follow the YouTube links. Basic Information The directors can t wait to hear your singing voice for an ensemble number! Due to time, you will not sing the entire song. Under each song, you will find the chosen cuts. Decide if you would like to sing a cut from Be Our Guest, or Belle. Follow the links provided, listen to the songs from the designated cuts (ex. 0:22-0:46), and practice with the provided links to the accompaniment. You may be a little nervous, and that s okay! Try and use that nervous energy to give an extra spark in the audition room. Have fun, show creativity, and remember that your directors are here for you!
